@dimi yes, most roguelikes on Steam have very basic graphics and low system requirements. They are also cheap. This is what Returnal is competing against.
Sony's strategy of porting games to PC worked on me, particularly with PC prices going through the roof. Experiencing God of War, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Horizon Zero Dawn and FF7R on PC encouraged me to buy a PS5 with God of War Ragnarok included and a year's worth of PS Plus Premium and I would never normally look at a console.
Most of the games in that list have sold very well on PC so I don't see how people can say that Sony is making a mistake, particularly given Microsoft have Game Pass.
As for Returnal, I tried it briefly as I was curious and I don't like roguelikes so that will colour my judgement, but the graphics didn't look very impressive compared to many other PS5 games and the game had a weird laggy feeling which made the mechanics feel unsatisfying. Shallow I know, but those were my first impressions.
@ChrisDeku Most people who bought it bought it on Epic as it was a timed exclusive there, so those numbers are not reliable. In fact experiencing FF7R on PC is one of the reasons I bought a PS5.
Also, God of War was significantly cheaper on PC than FF7R which made a difference I'm sure and it was available on Steam on release day. I got FF7R in a sale when most of the performance bugs had been fixed and I didn't realise how good it was until I played it, it was sublime.
