Re: PS5 Pro Packaging Flaunts Its Disc-Free Nature

You're not really telling me anything I don't already know. I know and understand all the reasons Microsoft and Sony are pushing for digital only consoles, and I know that people are stupid enough to fall for the convenience, not realising the impact on everyone else. It's not a matter of Sony trying something and then Microsoft following suit, they both want this. As a matter of fact, Microsoft started it when they wanted to have an always online console when they announced the xbox one. That was the first signs of what were going through now.

They don't need to have digital only consoles to grow or maintain their customer base, that's absolute nonsense. If they want to do that, they just need to keep making quality games and services. If they're really worried about growing or maintaining their customers, they should keep including disc drives, not remove them. But, that's not the real reason, hence why they are removing them.

They understand that giving people the convenience of not having to leave their homes to buy games and the B.S. promise of game prices coming down due to no packaging costs (somehow digital games are MORE expensive in the PS store) means that the casual gamer (or people who can't see the real impact this will have) will play right into what they want: the ability to charge more for the same quality (or worse), take away actual ownership and destroy the preowned market.

People thinking an all digital future is not a big deal are living a really low IQ existence. Stop and ask yourselves the question "Why are they REALLY pushing for this?" The short answer is it has nothing to do with disc printing costs.

Digital "purchases" are actually just license agreements. It's okay now, as the licenses are longer than peoples actual lifespans. However there's absolutely NOTHING stopping these companies in an all digital future deciding to shorten those license terms significantly.

Imagine 10 years from now paying $90/£90 (it's a digital game, why so expensive? 🤡) for a game, and only being able to have access to it for 2 or 3 years before having to renew. Now also imagine you saying something on a social media site (perhaps complaining about game prices) that Sony or Microsoft don't agree with and they decide it somehow violated an agreement in your video game license terms (read those t's & c's) and they decide to strip you of your catelog.

Seems far fetched, but it's a strong possibility with the way society is headed.
