If this was an article about Call of Duty or FIFA, the tone would be totally different in here.

Sony can do no wrong apparently.

Fair enough! We'll still call out Sony when they make moves like this, because they deserve it. 🤷‍♀️"

Yes to love something such as PlayStation you must also be honest and upfront not to be afraid of stating the facts.

Your honesty and calling them out is to make PlayStation better for all. Love it and keep doing. We all love PlayStation and not be afraid to state dissatisfaction.

Just to update you all (because I don't think this is really worth adding to the article) Sony got back to me and pointed me to the FAQ.

So I think we can surmise from this, if you do buy Horizon's Standard or Special Edition on PS4, you'll have to buy it again to get the PS5 version.

I think they'll backtrack and offer an upgrade option, but it doesn't seem like they have one planned at the time of typing."

You thinking on backtracking turned out to happen and was my initial thoughts as well before they updated the official PS Blog post on preorders.

Shawn Layden was never the overall boss of PlayStation like Jim Ryan now is. A lot of people seem to be mistaken by this."

Facts. Glad you posted this clarification.

Gaming industry is in a weird spot where, by and large, I observe dissatisfaction across the board:

8-hour single player game: Not worth the money.
Multiplayer focused game: Why not single player?
Game as a Service: Ewww, microtransactions.
Low-budget graphics: Looks crap.

It feels like you really can't win with the most vocal consumers on sites like this."

Couldn't agree more. Spot on.

It just reeks of nickel-and-diming to me. I do understand these games have exorbitant budgets, and I respect that, but I read Sony's financials every quarter and they're not exactly hurting for cash.

I understand they want to drive the market towards $70 games, so they will argue the $10 upgrade from PS4 to PS5 just brings things in line. But we live in an age of PCs and even the PS4 Pro, where it's expected that games scale with your hardware. No one buys a new graphics card and has to pay $10 to take advantage of it.

Honestly, if Sony thinks the games are worth $70, then just make the PS4 versions $70 as well and offer a free upgrade as part of the fee. If this is really the hill they want to die on, then so be it..."
