Re: Hardware Review: Thrustmaster T248 Racing Wheel - A Great First Step for Curious Car Nuts

My first steering wheel was the PS2 GT3 A Spec official Logitech steering wheel. Back then I had it bolted to a large padded food tray on my lap sitting on the sofa. My first time with proper force feedback, different league to a controller. Freind got one also so would occasionally play split screen two player attached to a long book shelf sitting on the same sofa.

As I moved onto the PS3, I replaced it with a Playseat Evolution driving seat (least that's what it's called now) along with the PC Logitech G25 Wheel, gear stick and pedal set. Leather wheel, metal pedals, a real step up. Seat takes a fair amount of space, but really nice, I got the adjustable seat even added bass shaker speakers to the back of the seat to feel the crashes/music.

On PS4 this combo stopped working, boo. Assuming a cunning way of pushing new wheels like the T248 here. So I took a punt a purchased the Drive Hub adapter from collective minds. It emulates newer wheels and works just like it did on PS3. Great force feedback, pedals, shifter buttons all as you'd expect. The adaptor has a LED rev counter which looks nice velcro'd onto the Logitech.

Played lots of GT Sport on it and now GT7 since launch with both PS5 and PS4 really love it. You plug a PS4/PS5 controller into the drivehub adaptor I think so it can claim to be a licensed controller. I got a cables Hori mini game pad £20 off Amazon, which is more convenient in the game menus than using the shifters control. Also solves an issue specific to the PS5 where real controller would go into standby.

Anyway I agree with others get a wheel you'll not regret it. If you can get a proper seat that is the next step up. Playseat Challenge at £169 on Amazon appears to be really compact. If you can spare the space I'd recommend the Playseat Evolution at £219.

It really would love to try out the Fantec Gran Turismo DD PRO Premium Bundle, but at just under a £1000 that's hard to justify.

Any other upgrade recommendations?
