I've only got a tiny bit in so far, but running around the lava plains glowing at night is seriously something else. I love the touch of haptic feedback next to a lavafall too, really sells it.
Good. I'm delighted that y'all refuse to rush through the content in order to put out a review. Honestly these games get better the more time you spend with them in my experience, and just blasting through any game I find is a disservice to the work of the developers and team, as there's so much to digest.
I personally think the exploration style by default should be with minimal map icons, you can turn all of the UI off. This is the way I've played since Zero Dawn--the game world is so captivating and beautiful it's an absolute disservice to it to have most of the HUD on. My ideal solution would be that there are many more 'blink and you miss it' optional sorts of discoveries and things that happen around the map.
I don't mind them as long as there is an option to disable them. Have it turned on by default, with an option to disable.
Anyone who wants them to be on should absolutely have the opportunity to shape the game to their play, and anyone like who finds it spoils the sense of discovery and wish it to be off, should have the option as well.
Accessibility is great for the players and good for the industry.
Horizon (and I cannot stress this enough) Zero Dawn.
Bloodborne can certainly use an upgrade as well but going back to HZD after playing other titles at 60fps I can’t quite look back. The difference is astonishing.
Originally, I was planning to buy this game day one as a digital download for PS5 but then I heard the reviews and assessment of performance & stability and decided against it. Once the major updates & patches have been rolled out (read: February) I’m considering buying it then, but Sony desperately needs to do something about digital game ownership & the business model of the digital marketplace.
It’s a mess!
It has a lot of room to improve, but some of those improvements can already be copied or inspired by extant structures ála Steam downloads and their refund policy.
Perhaps if the Sony PS Store would allow you to put down a ‘security deposit’ of say five to ten dollars that gives you limited access to the game (say, the first 2 hours) sales of most games would actually go up. Currently (ESPECIALLY if it’s only available as a digital copy) it’s a big ask to charge up to $70 for a game IF you are not permitted any refund in the case you just don’t like it.
Sony desperately needs to update their digital store model, and Cyberpunk has been a great study on this. For the medium of video games, you can’t fully judge if you like it until you’re directly playing it! It’s inherent to the medium.

Re: Soapbox: The State of Play Branding Seems Confused
I gotta say, I’ve got no qualms with State of Play. I think it’s lovely and I’m glad they began doing it!
