Star Wars Outlaws has landed on PS5. Ubisoft's open world adventure — developed by Massive Entertainment — has long promised freeform sandbox gameplay married to typical Star Wars vibes. It's one of the year's biggest releases in terms of potential widespread appeal, but have you decided to pick it up?
Admittedly, though, we came away from the game a bit disappointed. "So many of its core pillars, from the lacklustre reputation system to the basic combat and stealth mechanics, feel incredibly surface-level," is what we wrote in our Star Wars Outlaws PS5 review. "There's little depth to invest in, leaving the game a fun enough investment in the moment that'll prove forgettable further down the line. It's a perfectly fine video game, which feels like an anticlimax given the IP it's attached to," we concluded. A 6/10.
But don't let us cloud your judgement! We want to know if you're playing Star Wars Outlaws, so vote in our polls, and then start blasting in the comments section below.

I love Star Wars but not so much Ubisoft games, not to mention it'll be on sale soon. One thing I have been disappointed by is the apparent lack of actual Star Wars music, why bother recreating the Mos Eisley Cantina and not having the actual music from the movie playing? Madness
Just started it half an hour ago and it's took me that long sorting out the graphic and control settings 😅
I like the ubisoft formula but I'm not a fan of star wars. I plan on playing it but waiting for a steep discount.
Been playing since Tuesday and i've been really enjoying it. Its largely what i expected and i'm kinda glad it is.
Fallen out of Ubisoft games for myself.
I'm playing Vampire Survivors. It deserves my time more than this. When is your review up?
Wanted to get it but after seeing all these early access gameplay videos, the game is a huge let down. Not even talking about reviews or bugs. Things that probably cant be patched in at this point. They had the greatest opportunity to make the first open world Star Wars game a very special game. They just missed it. Obviously the devs didnt put the care into the game as DICE did, Gameplay and bugs aside.
I’m about an hour and a half in and I’m really enjoying it. There’s a few things they could have tweaked or done better that I’ve noticed, but overall I’m having fun.
Star wars outlaws? never heard of her
I kinda like Star Wars.. but the ''Instant failure if you're spotted'' stealth missions and the fact that it's a Ubisoft game instantly makes me not want to get it - not even at a deep discount.
I was, and really enjoying it, until the game decided I couldn't progress any further and broke.
I may try the thing out via Ubi+ seems like the best idea. Doubt it'd take more than a month to complete at a few hours a pop anyway. And if it really clicks with me then I'll get it on PS down the line, if not £15 is better than £100 of regret 🤷♂️
Been playing since Tuesday subbed to Ubisoft plus for a month to play and It's not really clicked with me yet it's OK but I'm not loving it like i thought i would.
No issue with ubi or Star Wars, but way too manage average reviews out there.
And the insta fail stealth.
So I’ll wait for a sale and game to be finished.
Started it today and I've enjoyed what I've played so far. I might put it on hold until next week. I have 9 days off work and I like the idea of playing it without any distractions.
I'm not the biggest fan of SW, I like a few of the movies, but it was never something that I would go crazy for. I was going to buy the game but after the reviews I decided to buy it when it's 20€ or something.
Can't stop playing, it's so fun.
Haven't even finished Jedi Survivor tbh
Replaying Hogwarts Legacy. This can wait until cheap from what I've read. Have Jedi Survivor somewhere to start.
Where’s the Are You Playing Vampire Survivors post???
Not touching it. No hate for Ubisoft but it reeks of Disney meddling.
Instead I preordered about 4 games.
@carlos82 my baseball team has a mariachi band that does the cantina song when they do the Star Wars celebration game and it’s absolutely epic. The whole stadium gets hyped.
Playing it and really enjoying it.
Will be half of by black friday based on Ubisoft's history, so will pick up down the line
Been a ride and a half, think glitches are being played up as been fine for me and my friends.
I've put a couple of hours in and I'm enjoying my time with it. Crawling through vents and slicing locks like a proper rogue thief.
Removed - inappropriate
Not played it, not a SW fan.
My disc shipped today so I'm not sure if I'm getting it this weekend or Monday... but I don't really have time to properly play it soon anyway...
It might have to wait until after Astro Bot
I am not a fan of Ubisoft games at all. I am a fan of pre-Disney Star Wars - the EU is so very rich. Timothy Zahn's original Thrawn trilogy would have been a slam dunk for sequel films with a fresh new cast. The Knights of the Old Republic lore is some of my favorite too. The only bright spot for me in the last 10 years or so has been Jedi Fallen Order.
I used to be a fan sums up where I’m at with Star Wars perfectly
I bought AC Odyssey and Valhalla a couple years after they both came out and really enjoyed them. I’ll do the same with this
No. The last few weeks have been a juxtaposition of games made in the east vs games made in the west. Results speak for themselves. Western games are becoming close to unplayable due to entertainment being the very least of their priorities.
Waiting for a sale is always the right move with Ubisoft games
Simplygames failed to get me my copy in release date. Surely the minimum a customer should expect with a pre-order is getting it on release date? Won't be using them again.
Been playing it since Tuesday and have highly enjoyed it so far. I don't care if the game isn't getting GotY level review scores. I was really looking forward to it ever since it was shown for the first time and I'm happy with it so far.
I also don't care if people think I'm crazy for dropping $110 on a Ubisoft game, but I wanted to play it rather than some of the higher rated games that came out recently.
@DennisReynolds I find myself listening to what you say about games seeing as we seem to have similar tastes and seem to share similar views on most things..most things..so I'll look into it when I have spare time and it hits a silly sale price. The new space marine game is marching towards us at an alarming rate and I really want some of that first.
@Ravix That's exactly what I did and I'm glad i did. I got fed up with it pretty quickly
I like to play games rather than sit around all day on social media complaining about them so yes I'll be playing it just as soon as it finishes installing. Just got it today. I also like to discover games for myself instead of letting random people online tell me if i should or shouldn't like a game.
Too many amazing games to play to waste my time on unpolished and uninspired games such as this.
@jrt87 Dustborn looks like something I'm going to avoid. I don't like that by its own admission it's politicised.
@DennisReynolds I started it today and I completely agree. It’s nothing spectacular, but I didn’t expect that or necessarily want that, I just wanted a good fun time, so far, that’s what it’s delivering.
Yes*
*got a month of Ubi+ but the vram leak is making it run like bantha poodoo on my pc.. So I'm likely going to play other stuff this month and pick up Outlaws later on
Nope. The game looks unpolished for an AAA game and i don't want to play as Fem Solo with bad dialogues. So i'm saving my money for much better games like Kunitsu Gami, Shadow of the Ninja Reborn, and MvC Collection.
@Northern_munkey Yeah giving the choice between SM2 and Outlaws i would say SM2 seems like the better deal.
@Odium Ubi games are like comfort games to me. They are rarely GOTY worthy but are always a good time and have a relaxing gameplay loop usually in a well designed open world.
@PuppetMaster She's nothing like Han Solo.
Yep. Been playing it since Tuesday. Got a month of Ubi+
It definitely feels like a SW game. And the audio out of my set up is fantastic. Having fun so far.
The bike is gold... they should have canceled the card game and made racing tacks.
Already have tons of things to do on my list. This will be my game to just jump on when I am to tired after work for Wukong.
The slicing reminds me of a game my wife got me into on the NY Times app - Wordle. So even enjoying doing those.
@DennisReynolds She looks like Fem Solo. But hey, good for you if you think she isn't.
I'm in the camp of "I love Star Wars, but I am completely burned out on the franchise."
@DennisReynolds I’m right there with you. Not that I play them a ton but they’re always a good time and familiar when I do.
Yes. It has obvious flaws that were well covered by the PS review. But the Star Wars atmosphere is really well done. So far that is carrying me past the flaws, and I am having fun. It certainly won’t be for everyone.
Few hours in and it's pretty good so far. Just wasted a good hour playing the sabacc gambling game which is really additive
This will be $20 in six months, and it will be patched and fully functional, with better visuals, as it is with every Ubisoft launch.
Then MAYBE I'll get this.
After seeing Avatar on PS5 and this being the same dev, yes on PC. Runs between 90-120fps at 1440p. I just couldn't stomach this one on console unfortunately.
I’m going to wait for a Black Friday sale, Which is going to be my answer to all upcoming major releases outside of Astrobot.
I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I enjoyed The Mandalorian and I haven't watched any of the animated series, so I might enjoy those.
So I reckon we need a "Not a fan, but enjoy parts of Star Wars" poll option.
More of a Star Trek and Stargate fan.
Looks REALLY crappy, so no
@Malaise Indeed. I haven't been criticized directly in this case thankfully, but I was covering my bases if somebody did as I know there are people out there that would think that.
Thanks. I hope it does too of course, but I have a feeling it will. I like Star Wars and I like Ubisoft open world games, so it was pretty easy for me to know I was going to like it well before it came out.
The only annoying thing is the lockpicking, which is still a bit annoying even when you go into the settings and turn the difficulty for lockpicking down to Easy. Nothing that gets in the way too much. They just tried to get a little too creative imo. I think really simple lockpicking that we've gotten in some games over the years has been just fine.
Star Wars isn't really my bag. The fans are scary and endlessly entertaining, but the actual Star Wars IP is pretty boring. I might pick this up when it's $20 or so. It isn't doing any one thing that other games don't do better.
@TrickyDicky99 Does that include the prequels or no? Because those are absolutely the worst of the worst. How about the Star Wars Holiday special? Invoking the spectre of the sanctity of Star Wars is hilarious to me.

I am sorry your story about all races coming together to fight space Hitler got all silly on you. I really hope the next toy or cartoon they make is more your speed. Backflips and pew pews and member berries and lightsabers. George Lucas is a big ol' lefty, btw. If you didn't catch any of the anti-war or anti-American imperialism themes, I mean...
As always, great work with the yes/no-quiz and article.
Also, if you are interested in the game and Star Wars in general, your next read could be Josh West's interview with six of the lead devs of the game who speak with great veneration of the subject material.
https://www.gamesradar.com/games/open-world/the-star-wars-outlaws-creative-team-weighs-in-on-what-its-like-to-work-within-a-galaxy-far-far-away-initially-it-felt-like-we-had-been-let-loose-in-the-toy-factory/
Well it was all good before those darn leftwing people like George Lucas got a hold over the franchise and put ladies in it.
What a wild world.
@TrickyDicky99 Hey man, that's on you, lol. It was a real good shot at flipping that around on me though.
I was interested in this, but then I quickly realised it isn't really what I'm looking for. Not being funny, but even the Disney + star wars content that creates new characters is very average, so not really sure how Ubisoft expects to be able to pull it off? And from what I've seen, they absolutely have not pulled it off. The World looks good, but that isn't enough. This is Star Wars... there are 100s of amazing characters already... why are Ubisoft reinventing the wheel here?
Also, side note - but it's 2024 and they are still trying to sell me outfits as dlc. Seriously? Can the games industry get itself some sodding credibility? Do you know what message I hear when I see an email from the publisher pushing dlc clothing at me? It's that the game isn't any good and we're desperate to make as much money as we possibly can because we're worried it isn't going to be enough. Good luck ubisoft.
@nocdaes think that Wukong game has outfits as dlc too
@TrickyDicky99
Every time I subject my eyes to reading your ridiculous commentary I feel wary. This time, however, I had to laugh out loud.
You pretend to know what a 'leftie' is but suddenly you've no idea what 'America' even is. After having finished chuckling, I believe your lie about not knowing anything. Your mom probably writes in English for you.
I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, will check it out later, i like a bit of star wars. Ubisoft make some great looking open world games.
@EchoRange
There is only a deluxe edition upgrade, it's a rip off.
I'm just kind of over this formula of video game. The massive 50 hour open world. I did enjoy them alot for many years but I just don't want to go from place to place doing a similar mission structure and getting upgrades anymore.
I crave linear story titles so much at the moment and nobody really seems to be making them anymore. It makes me kinda of sad haha. Even more gutting that Dead Space remake didn't achieve the numbers to warrant any investment in this style of video game.
I cannot wait for what Naughty Dog is creating!
Oh, and Judas looks pretty fantastic as well.
Star Wars used to be magic.
Now it’s CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT
Not even looked in to what sort of game it is but im just not going to bother. Enjoying wukong, despite struggling on a couple of bosses and have currently hit a wall on one and with Astrobot a week away i dont need any reason to even think about wanting another game.
Nah, I've had my fill of ubisoft games for the rest of my life now. Couldn't give a monkeys about their games.
Not got the money to throw around at the moment.
Life is tough,
Still haven't even managed to buy jedi survivor yet and I enjoyed the first game.
My only concern with outlaws is I don't like ubisofts formula of open world, but everything I've seen of the game looks like it's fun.
Even the reviews words don't add up to the 6 10 score.
But that's why I don't ever look at the score because everyone in comments always drill it into your head that anything below a 8 is bad.
It begs the question what is the point of of a score. Seeing as 5 is ment to be average so 6 is better than average.
Yet what exactly is an average game,
In my eyes every single assassin's creed game is an average game and yet those score higher.
I'm one of those very few people that has never fully watched a Star Wars movie. This franchise is not for me.
I’m playing it and enjoying it so far. 8/10 for me
Yes I am and I am really enjoying it, only about 4 hours in but so far so good, think I prefer Jedi Survivour but a bit early to tell, Nix is great too!
I’m playing it and very much enjoying it, but I’m not a huge Star Wars fan. It’s just good fun, yes a bit basic but just seems a more old school charm with a wonderfully realised world.
@jrt87 yeah, I watched sone too and I was not impressed. It's not a bad game but it's definetly not anything special, and it really should be if it's Star Wars otherwise what's the point.
I will play it soon. A friend of mine bought the physical version as a gift to me, so it's the waiting game now. Hurry post office!! I love Star Wars, i's my primary franchise of all, so it's a sure thing I will play a canonical game. And I enjoy Ubisoft games, specially Assassin's Creed. This game IS for me!
@AfroMario Fyi my five year old understood the subtext.
I'm all for slavish devotion to stupid things. My favorite band is GWAR and my favorite series is Doom. It's like admitting that life is pointless, so just have fun, imo.
But I'm going to call out the culture warriors, sorry not sorry.
@Malaise The rant is fine. I end up going on them at times too. Yeah, in regards to playing their games, I could care less about what goes on behind the scenes. I play and watch what I want regardless of what happens behind the scenes for the most part.
I do normally wait on Ubisoft games, but it can depend on what else is coming out around their game at the time. Other than Astro Bot, for me there isn't really much coming out right around now, so I felt there was no reason to wait. If the reviews for Outlaws were all fairly negative, then that would've changed things, but that would've been the only way the reviews would've swayed me. The 6/10 from here is out of the norm. Judging whether I wait will likely apply to AC Shadows once I actually look at the release schedule for the rest of the year.
There is an option in the menus to turn down the difficulty to easy, which makes it a little better. I'll probably get better at it the more I play the game, especially trying to take my time instead of trying to just power my way through it whenever I get a little frustrated. It's also so much different from most game's lockpicking, so an initial adjustment period of sorts is not that surprising I guess.
Yes!!
And it's a great Game 🔥
@TrickyDicky99 I'd say it's more likely for someone outside of the USA to rag on about. At least I'm self-aware. A lot of Americans think they are completely above reproach.
I thought "loony lefties" meant Americans. Because left means something different around the world. But since you don't know anything about America and don't care, I'll assume you meant the French Communist Party.
oops!
I played the first two hours, it's a lot of fun so far. I did turn off that lockpicking game though, couldn't be bothered with that. It's going to be a good game to play alongside Baldur's Gate 3 I feel.
I was waiting for PS Stars to become available for the purchase. Stars updated today and there’s 50 Stars for the Outlaws purchase. It’s not enough, but it’s more than 0.
Ubisoft game for auto-boycotted. Sorry.
Don't really love nor hate Star Wars but the game looks decent so I will pick it up it down the line when it's on sale instead of the high day one price points like I do with all my purchases these days.
Eh kind of SW fan, not my kind of game but watching someone else play it/talked about it/played to tweak settings that's it.
Puzzles could be better, cards are good but the sound based door puzzles are not good, they could be tweaked for accessibility and clarity. The symbols one is fair.
Enemy AI is hit and miss. Character movement is ok.
Visuals/lighting/particles/gas clouds for atmosphere are very distracting. The ray tracing doesn't help the game, the artstyle is one thing, but the lighting is not handled well.
Her backstory in the intro was a load of WHAT? They have a scene that should be easy to justify her being what she is early on, but I'm like that should justify it but she still seems like she isn't a good enough smuggler. I know a cutscene shouldn't determine everything but even still. It just seemed weird to me. Some scenes are just weird, some level design is awkward.
The online not noticed as an issue when playing to 'impact' the game but in 10 years like The Crew it will be. Good luck people having 10 years to play it then the online DRM makes it unplayable.
Reputation system is better then I expected, a bit annoying, probably not as Infamous Second Son Good/Evil to grind to get it back up annoying but it's fair for traders or sneaking in and out or easy access into their sectioned off locations.
The timer for a reputation side mission was not clear (top right corner, Kay doesn't say anything, they don't put a prompt saying a timer or anything it just starts in the top right corner like any other mission and expects you to have noticed, I had to point it out to the person playing it they just didn't know) on one of those reputation increasing side missions though. With low reputation those types are just a give up immediately type to get from one side to the other and into where they need you to go.
Charms are fair to explore/acquire compared to RPG formula in my opinion even though those into the RPG systems aren't going to like this game. Reputation higher level gear with perks is a nice thing.
Losing credits for awkward AI is not great. Too much stealth focus is a bit of a turn off. The stealth being so basic isn't great. Other stealth games have more options to work with.
Nix is good in uses for many situations. Many perks/upgrades are fairly cool/useful.
Weapons as powerups/treated like a large machine gun of very quick use or drop when climbing is just ridiculous.
The pistol needed to be like Control was, or make it a gun that EXPANDS WITH PARTS TO BE A SNIPER with a scope, SHOTGUN spray or other more CREATIVE uses for it but they don't seem to have that level of imagination at all it seems, like why?
The game has it's moments. 5-7/10.
Game is rushed in areas but that's to be expected due to The Division 2 updates, Avatar then this months later. That's hard on Massive to deal with. So I give them a fair pass in some cases but others seem just odd at times.
Climbing on craggy rock at one point and wouldn't climb up, yeah not as bad as sliding down a rope and going through the platform at the bottom other the speeder not working with ramps but yeah it is still unfortunate.
That's from me watching someone else play it/talking about the game with them and their experience/watching a fair few segments, not myself play it. I have played a bit but to help the person playing it/confirm camera and other settings.
Western developers just worry about everything but gameplay.
