A long, long awaited sequel to the original Space Marine on PS3, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 hit the ground running when it launched on PS5 a couple of weeks back. The action-shooter was met with rave reviews and quickly amassed an army of enthused players. It's been an undeniable success, and with a series of free updates promised for the rest of 2024 and beyond, the bug-stomping, chaos-crushing experience should only get better.
We absolutely loved this one, for the record. "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 does its legendary setting justice, offering a high-quality cinematic campaign that is a wild ride to blast through, and it only gets better if you bring a few friends to watch your back," is what we wrote in our Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 PS5 review. We concluded: "Space Marine 2 sets a benchmark for 40k games worthy of its own storied, illustrious lore." A hallowed 9/10.
But what do you think of Space Marine 2? Have you blasted your way through the campaign? Have you forged unbreakable bonds with your battle brothers in co-op? Give the game a score of your own, and then reason with the Emperor's faithful in the comments section below.

I give it a Great/10
Server issues aside, it's a damn good time in every mode whether it's the campaign, PVE Co-op or the PVP.
I would love more games similar to this.
I'd go with an 8, it's a great time and is still bringing me back, but I wish the campaign was longer and I have no interest in PVP so that doesn't give it any bonus points from me. Can't argue with the quality of what's there though.
No one actually thinks that this is a 1 - that's a lie. Why even bother?
It's a great game, my only question is why are non CGI cutscenes pre-rendered. They use the same great in-house engine and take place in the same environment you are in. So the assets exist. Besides that, it's definitely one of my favorite games this year and one I was counting down the days until release.
An 11. Good ole fashion fun and a bonus point for not being woke. 🙂
9/10 from me its fantastic.
Can anyone tell me how's performance? I'm not that strict with stable 60fps as long as i can still play the game relatively well. Games like FF7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin and Banishers Ghosts of New Eden all have framerate drops but i can play all of them fine. If performance in this game is something like this, then I'm OK
I'm a big warhammer fan and also a lifelong gamer so for me this game is a dream come true. I'm not a big fan of grading a game with an arbritary number, but I gave it a 9. I can imagine if warhammer doesn't do it for you it might be lower, it's not a perfect experience.
The main campaign is bombastic but doesn't really have that much variety. The pvp is pretty barebones but fun. The main course is the operations mode and there is some real depth in the combinations of classes on higher difficulties.
I'm almost 40 years old. I've played hundreds of games in my life. This game really excited me more than "better" games have this year.
@TomasVrboda it’s not unreal 5, it’s saber’s own Swarm engine
9 for me and they have content planned one of the few games worth the money this year
@LifeGirl because being grumpy, contrarian 🫏 🕳️ s is a thing nowadays. In the gaming fandom particularly.
@windxtravelerx performance has been great for me, I play on quality and as much as it's not maintaining the high framerate it's absolutely not unplayable. From what I've spent in performance mode it's smoother and still looks fine, I just really like the lighting in quality mode.
8/10 for me. Overall a really great game, with a few minor disappointments;
1. The first game did a better job of making you feel like a space marine. Even the basic enemies in SM2 can tear you down quick if your not careful. I think SM1 handled the enemy balancing and health systems better.
2. The story mode is great but could be more well fleshed out. I think the operations mode should have been scrapped and its contents rolled into the main plot. The way the first enemy faction were dealt with in the back end of the story was unfortunate.
Still great though, the long wait and anticipation has probably amplified my disappointment a bit.
I have yet to play it, but curious if they’ve addressed the framerate on PS5 yet. I’d prefer to pick it up on PlayStation, but it’s definitely got more drops and stutters on PS5 from what I’ve seen.
7/10 for me.
Campaign felt a bit brief and I wasn't super invested in the story (i'm not 40K fan though). Operations is where it's at and I'm having fun with mates. But the overall gameplay feels a little, weightless. Like it's not as snappy or responsive as something like Gears or even Helldivers 2; melee combat feels a bit unresponsive. Also really, really not a fan of the super low resolution in performance mode, makes everything looks muddy, which is a shame as the game really does look excellent in places.
With game performance better at launch on Series X, I picked it up there. But it’s outstanding. Easily the best Warhammer game yet IMO. Does have a bit more of a Gears of War feel but that’s fine by me. Graphical detail is amazing, especially with literally hundreds of enemies on the screen at times.
@windxtravelerx the framerate at launch was a disaster in Performance Mode, a lot of dips the 40s. (see the Digital Foundry tech review)
I'm waiting for a couple of Performance patches myself.
@springer17 yeah, i think i could play this one in Quality Mode, since its gameplay is more focused on taking hordes of enemies rather than fast paced combat like Doom Eternal or something. I usually prefer performance, but this is the kind of game where i can see myself trying the other game mode
@Barry_vV yeah, i watched the video there and i was wondering if there were any improvements in performance by now. Doesn't seem to be the case. It's weird since Xbox Series X runs this game a bit better and it and PS5 aren't that different from one another, in terms of hardware power. But i hope they can improve performance, even if it's just a bit
Not played this but it looks great (not voted obviously).
It seems to me in these polls there's always some sad cretin putting a 1. Don't see the point (in them and them putting a 1)
@LifeGirl some people are sad
@JB_Whiting same. I chose 7 bc the combat just felt a little off compared to what I’d expect from this genre. The weapons variety was a little lacking too IMO
It’s good 7/10
At first you feel like the game is awesome as it’s balls to the wall action like gears of war.
But after a few hours you feel the repetition kick in.
Run to X location while fighting a few aliens.
Press a button for some action and then it’s time to fight a horde of aliens. Rinse and repeat, it does get old after 4-5hours.
I give it an 8/10. I wish the combat, which there is a lot of, was a bit smoother. I also think the parry system is questionable to say the least. Other than that, it’s great and harkens back to the classic 360 era of gaming.
Definitely an 8-9 for me, so far. It’s the best modern day 360/PS3 era game I’ve played. Astro still holds as my GotY though.
@windxtravelerx if you can deal with those you’re good for this. The framerate dips here and there but it never bothers me. I did notice the blur on the camera turn can be a bit jarring but even that isn’t constant.
There is still hope for gaming beyond dei.
82 on metacritic so these 9 or higher score are dubious..
I feel extremely validated by this poll 😎
I can't believe you missed the chance to change the 10/10 vote to 40,000/40,000 🤷🏼♂️
I wish the co-op functioned the way it was supposed to the first time/10
Massive warhammer fan, gave it a 9, if the campaign was longer be an easy 10!
@windxtravelerx I'm normally the same, performance mode is a must unless it's slower paced and I've not felt the need to switch back at all for this
I gave it an 7 granted I've not played much of it only a couple of hours , I feel I was playing it wrong at first as I kept dying , I was hanging back trying to pick them off, but it's more of a get in there type of game,it looks great and is good for a couple of hours at a time any longer and I feel I'd get bored if I played any longer , doesnt seem to be more to it than just shooty shoot hacky hack.
I really don't understand any score that's below a 5... it's a perfectly playable game, with lots of content options? Myself, I'd give it an 8. Solid, crunchy, fun; haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but the ai could do with some improvement in single player (on veteran, at least), but I've heard that's being addressed, so possibly a 9, with improvements!
@Kraven Totally agree on the parry/dodge system. The blue/red flashes don’t time up right, and it can be really hard to see what’s coming at you in the thick of combat.
It would be a 10 if it wasn't for the annoying enemies that poison you and the flying sh**birds.
@windxtravelerx I have both consoles and the Series X is definitely the stronger console as far as hardware power. Four years into this generation, I feel that everyone knows this by now.
@Odium thank you for the reply! Yes, I'm usually OK with less than stellar performance. This game isn't that fast, so I'm OK with some framerate drops
@Romans12 yes, Xbox Series X is more powerful than PS5, though the gap between the two isn't that big like it was in the last gen. However, the Xbox doesn't always perform better than PS5, something that DF videos have been showing every now and then. That's why i usually watch DF videos to know more about these games (not that it'll make a big difference for me since i only own a PS5 and i don't plan on buying a Xbox or even a Pro)
@LifeGirl I can smell only one reason... HERESY!
A solid 8. The story lacks the depth i was hoping for in terms of exploring the world of Warhammer 40k, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.
