I'm a US student studying abroad in the UK for the current term, and was hoping to bring back some physical copies of new games to play when I return home in the summer. I'm fully aware that PS5 games themselves are not region-locked, and am rather concerned with whether buying a different-region copy of a game for my American console will give me any trouble downloading potential updates or DLC.
For example, one title I have my eye on is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which has DLC attached to it that I know I'm interested in. Would my PSN account being linked to the States' PS Store stop me from applying that DLC to a foreign disc version of the game? Does anyone have experience related to this with imported copies of other PS5 games?
Hi,
Yes, while any disc will work on any console, any DLC has to be purchased with an account registered in a region corresponding with the game disc's region - otherwise it won't work.
You could work around this by setting up a 2nd UK account and enabling game sharing with it.
For reference: North America is Region 1, Europe (including UK, and additionally Middle East, some parts of Africa and apparently Japan) is Region 2.
Going one step further, this might be more game-specific, but if I opted for the Deluxe Edition of that LEGO Star Wars game that mentions DLC is included (presumably via a code), do you know if that code would also be tied to the region?
