Topic: PS4 can't read disks

I bought Second Son from CEX second-hand and get disk read errors. I tried Last of Us Part 1 remastered, same issue. I'm thinking maybe the console itself is the issue, I don't know. I can play games I purchased digitally from the PS store and games and had no issues with games I already had installed from disk previously. I've been able to play games from CEX before and there is no visible issues with the disk. I tried updating the firmware but there are no updates to install.

The one good thing with cex is 24 month warranty so take it back

I might have to do that :/. I'm not physically that near to a branch so I was hoping for a fix I can do my end. It's inconvenient.

Attempting now, thanks. It's not a massive loss if I lose game save files as I mostly am not partway through any game. I ran a total system reset and now I'm using an unfamiliar UI and don't know how to install games nor where settings are.
Ah wait, got it. What was that UI about?

Dang, no luck, same error

I was editing the last post as I was making attempts.

• Attempted total system reset
• Reset successful
• Tried to install game from disk
• Same error as before. Back to square 1

Now this is strange. I can run No Man's Sky disk fine but Last of Us Part 1 Remastered and Second Son I can't. I don't get it.

@lolwhatno Thank you. I have the receipt from CEX for the console and might have to ask them to switch it for an equivalent (i.e. another PS4) if it can't be solved. It's strange.

I don't know if you already solved it, but I had a similar problem, but my problem is apparently related to trophies. Games I had already installed worked fine, but new games, when the system tries to install the trophy list for that game, it crashes and restarts. I've read online that the only way to resolve this is to reset the system, but as you've already done that, I'm not sure what could be causing this. Just wondering what you did to resolve it, I didn't reboot my system because of P.T. which I don't want to lose because I have installed it on the console.

@Gbarsotini I returned the console to CEX and they checked it and replaced it with another of the same model as fault with the laser. New one works fine. Thanks anyway.
