From what I've seen, I'm IN so far, though I doubt I'll be able to afford it. I've seen a lot of HTC Vive gameplay lately, and if the PSVR is half as good as that, then I'm sold

I am OUT for VR, officially on this thread at least........but in reality I'm a bit of a pessimistic fence sitter. The library is of some concern, right now I see a lot of signs pointing to rather shallow one or two hour experiences that will bring in that "wow" factor during the first couple of tries, but inevitably, will gather dust due to shallowness. The other route is the "tacked on" VR for games that don't require it.

I wish the gaming media would express concerns about VR instead of hyping up a product that may inevitably be 400 dollars down the drain and rarely used after the first few weeks. I can afford to invest in such a platform, but 14~16 year old's, that's a huge investment for them that may be inevitably wasted.

In closing thoughts, I play games for relaxation..............when I go home, I want to relax, and I think VR is counterproductive to that in a couple of ways (you have to wear a helmet / set, you have a cut off outside view, detachment from reality, etc). So maybe VR would still constitute 15-30% of your time gaming despite those issues,....but does it really make it worth the prices if that's the case?

I see a lot of people wearing both the PSVR and a headset together, is that comfortable?

I will remember that in two years when Sony drops it like a bad habit.

@SkanetWasTaken: PSVR could still 'fail'. Considering the costs involved in R&D, let alone the cost of manufacturing and software development, it would need to sell a lot of units to be a 'success'. The others have a broader appeal - more than just gaming and a lot of the investment was spread around multiple companies. Samsungs VR for example isn't that costly - its based on using the Phones so purely software with a headset designed to hold that phone. People will still buy the Phone regardless. Valve and Oculus are more likely to get interest from from the educational sector as well as other sectors (like porn, social etc). PSVR may be 'capable' of offering some of these sectors too but its predominantly going to be 'just' a gaming peripheral.

I can't see PSVR offering games like CoD and BF on it, at least not this generation. Games are going to be 'stripped' down and/or smaller versions of these because a lot of the processing will be required for the VR motion and ensuring a higher than normal frame rate too. This could limit or even affect the experience. What if the majority use the PS4 (not Neo) and games have fluctuating frame rates and motion lag that cause sickness - it could put people off PSVR and not recuperate anywhere near its investment - it would/could be considered a flop then. VR could become a success on other formats because of a broader appeal but that doesn't mean that PSVR will be. In the past we have seen many companies invest in a technology but not all survive or become successful.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Was IN, then the PS4k rumours started. Sounds to me like VR is the driving force behind the need for a more powerful PS4, so for now, until it all becomes clear I'm 100% OUT.

Not interested in any VR. Never have been and don't even think a monumental effort could make me care.

@Tasuki: Even if PSVR fails - which I'm very positive that it won't - there are still dozens of other multi billion companies investing in this tech. Facebook, Apple, Valve & HTC, Samsung, Google, each of their own have their own VR headset. Yes, Sony has made some questionable decisions in the past, but it's hard to believe that even all the corporations above have no idea what they're doing. VR is here to stay.

Agreed. I think there's fair debate as to whether VR will be a hit for games, but the tech definitely has a future in education and other areas. Imagine being able to sit in the dug-out at a World Cup final, etc.

Yeah but that wasn't the question asked whether VR is here to stay it was whether PSVR was going to be a hit.

VR is being used in a lot of industries today, medical, military just to name a few but look at motion controls. They are used in alot of fields but flop big when it came to video games.

I was IN but looking at what is coming out (and Sony's track record of forgetting systems) I am OUT!

@Kidfried: To be honest there has been nothing game-wise that has blown my mind. Yes, it is a good experience (I have tried it) but I am not sold (yet). Maybe in time but I really think this is a Youtube Fad.
I remember how much fun I had waving my hands around with the Wii but at the end of the day I just wanted a bog standard controller.
Oh, also £250 is a lot of money to dish out for something that could be a fad. VR as a technology is amazing but I am not sure about gaming. From what I have seen on the good ol' internet, the games on offer are not golden.

Tasuki

Sorry guys but Push Square is not the place to discuss politics, if you want to do that, you are going to have to go somewhere else.

Thanks for understanding.

@Tasuki: Sorry man,got it. I think as far psvr is concerned,i don't want to Preorder something that i don't know what its like to use /what games there will be/if its going to hurt my eyes/ amongst other issues..surley this mindest is widespread? The only option for me to even consider it is to wait n' see if a killer ip arrives. If Wipeout psvr reared its head on release the date scheudle then yes,i would blindly throw money at it -thats the only scenario i can picture that would make do so.
