Not a game supporting the Move, but a fun game nevertheless. Just wanted to start a topic here to see if anyone else was playing. I'm just starting out on Redemption server.
I'd be interested to know from others playing what server they're on and any tips or suggestions for this newb.
My internet is pretty slow too. As A PS+ member, I got into the beta and couldn't complete the 13 GB download before the beta ended! But I can still play a lot of online games, so I took a chance with this as a retailer was offering buy 2 get 1 free (so I rationalized paying full price for LBP2 and ME2 and getting DCUO for "free")
Apart from still having to do a 24 hour continuous download (which took my U.S. based friend 90 minutes to do) to get my disc installed game up to the current patch, I'm both amazed and pleased by how well the game plays. And considering I'm in China and the servers are in the U.S., it's great. I have experienced lag on a few occasions, but 95% of the time it's as smooth as any local game... though I haven't grouped yet and tried voice communication yet.
Anyhow, give credit to Sony for actually making a cross platform MMO that works, is fun, and quite immersive in the realm of DC comics.

You mentioned cross platform; I just have a couple questions about that really.
I heard that even though you can get the game on ps3 or pc, both versions are completely separate from each other (meaning you can't play a character on pc or ps3, only one or the other).
Do you buy ANY chance know if this is true or not? My only reason for not getting it yet is because I want a mmo I can play either at home or at work (lol). I'm sort of hoping FF14 allows for either or like FF11 did. I've already gotten a lot of time into FF14 regardless.
Other than that, how much would you recommend this over other p2p mmmos? (WoW, FF14, Aion, etc)
Thanks

Here's what I think is happening regarding the cross-platform: you'd almost certainly have to have two accounts, 1 for PS3 and 1 for PC. You'd have to buy the game twice, pay monthly subscriptions for each account, and would be playing at minimum two separate toons.
My mmo experience is limited, and it has been years since playing. I played City of Heroes for about 18 months until NC Soft accounting made an error in my account. I played D&D Online and WoW each for about 2 months when both first came out. I beta tested 2 stinkers The Matrix and Autoduel (?)
I grew up reading comic books (when I could afford them), and so I'm much more partial to superhero inspired games, and DCUO really captures the DC Universe. All the characters are there, and the voice acting is good, including quite a bit of decent humor in spots. Metropolis is all shiny and new (well the parts not devastated by attacks!) Gotham City is dark, and bleak. The visuals are well done and scale is impressive.
Character creation is good, especially in customizing your look with loot collected. Powers seem decent, though haven't played enough to try that many, or to tell if there are great imbalances. Once you hit level 10 you choose at any time whether you're in damage dealer mode or your secondary (prime?) role of tank, controller, or healer -- with powers often changing accordingly and the ability to create separate loadouts to make switching a click away.
It has a variety of things to do. (Missions, PVP events, group events, boss hunts, racing! -- both solo and with friends.) You can possibly max a character (level 30 is highest at this time), solo, if you wanted to. There is no grinding apart from specific missions like defeat so many thugs and rescue x-number of citizens.
I'm still on my free month, but I'll certainly renew for another month. After that I'll be totally offline anyhow for about 6 months.
The PS3 disc is cannot be resold as the disc itself is locked to your account. It costs more than the PC version. Both charge monthly, though the PC version allows you to buy a lifetime subscription, the PS3 no. My PC can't handle it, else it's a much better deal, though playing on the PS3 is fun and works well... and at least I get a few more trophies.
@Din_Djinn: Did you play COH on American servers? I played pinnacle and freedom for about 45 months myself.
Yes, I was living in america at the time. I played CoH from the start up through update 3.6, I think it was, the one that really nerfed the heroes, and before City of Villains came out. I had several alts on different servers but mostly played on Protector.
The one thing I prefered about CoH was I spent more time at it and got more deeply involved in the social aspect, making many new friends, being party of a guild and such.
And as I mentioned, I haven't played the game since, but I do think in most aspects DCUO is a better game. The villains are better and more diverse. It's fun to fight alongside Bat Woman to take down the Scarecrow, for example. And now I get to be a villain too, which is part of the launch and not added later (with balancing issues.) Plus the cities are just more fun to explore.
If anyone has this or picks it up and wants to add me as a PSN, just mention it on your invite. But I'll tell you now, I'm no expert in the play, play regularly, but a pretty rigid schedule, and will be off in May. Anyhow, I'm on the Redemption server now, but I'd be glad to reroll. The game lets you have 16 toons. As there are 6 mentors (Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Circe), there's still a lot of options for character creation.
See that's a huge bummer for me I would only play it if I could play it on both with the same character. I assumed I'd need two copies, but didn't think I'd need two whole accounts. I have a pc that game play it no problem, but I'd rather play it on PS3 when I can (not at work)
Guess I'm stuck waiting for FF14 on ps3 =\
Thanks for the info though, extremely helpful!

I'm not 100% sure one would indeed need separate accounts for PC and PS3 play, but as my disc itself is tied to my PSN account, I think it's quite rigid. I don't see how one could have an account that would be active on both... not to mention the different subscription prices possible between the two platforms (ie, the Lifetime membership offered for PC but not for PS3).
Now, one additional point worth mentioning to anyone considering this purchase, is the HD requirements are also quite severe. You must do a 16+ GB install. And there will only be more as updates are eventually released. Anyone considering downloading off PSN, I wish you luck. If the installer is like it was during the beta, you can download it in parts, not all at one time, which is good, as 16 GBs is a BIG download.
Despite all this, I find it a surprisingly fun action MMO, and still recommend it, though I realize it's just not in the future for many. The populations are reasonable enough now, and with it being released as a DL on PSN, is sure to increase (for a while).
Should have known this earlier, but just never had confirmation until recently: For those interested in the cross-platform playing, the two platforms are maintained on separate servers.
Like most MMOs, the game does get updates, and a new one arrived today.
This thread can go ahead and die it's over 4 years old no need to bump an old thread. If a thread is less then six months old it can be bumped otherwise let it die.
