@Th3solution@BAMozzy I don't think I will get too burnt out but it's a fair warning! To be honest, I bought the God of War collection for Vita over a year ago, started and never went back so I am using this as a reason to knock two games off the backlog. The first two games definitely show their PS2 age (I realised I had a least played some of GoW back in the day as remembered one or two of the bosses) so thinking the new game won't ruin anything. GoW 3 I got in a recent sale and that might be closer to modern day mechanics but then is still 8 years old.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
@JohnnyShoulder That sounds nice, but if it's just like Horizon's performance mode vs quality mode, I can't see it being that big a deal. Horizon was 30 fps regardless and didn't drop many frames in either mode, so if it's the same case here, I can't see myself caring one way or the other. Now if it allowed us to play in 60, that'd be another story.
@JohnnyShoulder I have to agree with @Giygas_95 that this is either going to be 'pointless' like H:ZD - a mode just to ensure rock solid 30fps rather than suffer the odd frame drop here and there OR the game struggles to hold 30fps on both PS4 and Pro but the Pro at least can hold 30fps in 'performance' mode.
I expect its most likely to be the former - in that the game plays well at 30fps but can drop a frame here and there. The choice then is to go for a rock solid performance or have the higher resolution which on 4k TV's could well outweigh the odd frame rate drop - at least resolution is working for you all the time where as Performance may only work for you in very rare situations. With 1080p TV owners, the benefits of a super-sampled image may not be as worthwhile - especially if things like Shadow quality, draw distance etc are the same regardless.
I can't imagine that a Sony first party studio making a game specific to a platform would have too many issues with performance.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@BAMozzy I still don't see why 1080p 60 isn't an option...maybe it would have required extra optimizations? I imagine a game with graphics this pretty is quite demanding whether the resolution is 1080 or 4K.
Then again, why can't I play the N.Sane Trilogy in 60?
@Giygas_95 60fps is 'difficult' because of the lame CPU in consoles. Just because you drop the resolution down, which basically reduces the time it takes for the GPU to draw the frame etc, the CPU still has to do all the same work it had to do before - the physics, the AI, the instruction to the GPU. If it takes say 15-20ms for the CPU to do everything it needs to do and 15ms for the GPU to draw the frame, that means that the frame time is 30-35ms which is why we get the odd 'frame drop' as it needs to hit 33ms to do 30fps. If you drop the resolution down to 1080p, the render time may drop to 10ms (as it still has to pull the textures in and apply all the Ambient Occlusion etc) which means its always hitting the 33ms time but that's still never going to hit the 16.66ms time needed to hit 60fps.
On the X for example, Rise of the Tomb Raider runs at native 4k/30 but even dropping the resolution down to 25% (1080p), does not allow the game to run at a 'locked' 60fps. That still does not save enough time on the rendering to enable the game to run smoothly at 60fps.
The Pro (like the X) didn't exactly see a big improvement in the CPU area - certainly not compared to the boost in GPU.

@Giygas_95 They can't change the CPU without changing the whole architecture so that's out of question until we get a new generation. PS4 Pro also has bandwidth problems in addition to the usual CPU bottleneck found on X1X too.
A good article on the combat. Interestingly the writer never really enjoyed the previous games (a bit like me) and found the combat really satisfying in the new game.
I will probably pre-order this which is something I rarely do. But I like to support either series which I've previously enjoyed (Dark Souls) or single player games which don't have the distasteful practices which has seeped into the industry. Yes I'm talking about microtransactions and loot boxes. This also has no season pass, but I don't mind those as long as there are substantial like in Dark Souls or The Witcher 3.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
Does anyone know if there's a difference between the standard edition and the day one edition? The standard edition is 2 euros cheaper, but I can't find anything on the difference between both versions. It seems to me they're just the same.
