I got it as many of my friends kept saying how brilliant it is, and yeah it's alright but I'd rather play the Witcher.

@andreoni79: the problem is that they start attacking towns in small numbers early in the game before joining that quest- for me, it was when I was level 6 and I hadn't even gotten my first shout yet. My wife had a similar issue and they actually killed half of her town since it wasn't well guarded. They did just come out with a mod today that makes it so no vampire can spawn attack inside the city to help.
To the original post - man, this game takes me back. I've only played through it once, and not through the DLC, and it just feels great. Like I loved the Witcher and I think it's the overall better game, but this is just so fun to mess around in and is the game I would want to replay a second time. I only wish the guild quests were as good as Oblivion - they all feel pretty weak in this game comparatively.
FYI - I'm playing primary as a mage, but with plenty of sneak and warrior parts thrown in. I'm using light mods such as "more lamp posts" and "rain and snow fx" along with adding more spells/tweaking spells.
I am noticing that i am getting very little done, i keep getting distracted by other npcs and quests.
I do have a question, i am on a 32" HDTV in normal/full mode which is giving e the best it can of the screen i am still missing about a 1/2 inch on each side...could it be that this version is designed for 4k?
My copy arrived in the post today after I saw it going for pretty cheap on eBay. Rolling with a Nord warrior/archer (I was a Mage/archer last time). I played this on 360 in 2012 and this special edition looks stunning compared to how I remember it. With the updated visual and that great soundtrack, this feels like a really special game (I didn't get on with it the first time round but I'm already loving it so far)
I'll definitely have to pick this up again, after ploughing a significant amount of time into it in 2012 the remaster has kicked me in the nostalgia balls fairly hard. I played as a dark elf last time so I'll probably change up my race a bit this time, I do enjoy playing as an archer though and previously had a bow that could basically decimate all in one shot if I was crouched. Probably one of my favourite little touches though was the ability to name your weapons, I look forward to crafting Justin Biebow and The Mighty Sword of Dobber once again.
@Splat: I told my wife that this week. I think the Witcher is the better overall game, but Skyrim is the game I would rather do a re-play of. I hope Bethesda learns some new things from the Witcher devs
I've thought about this alot, and I think what has happened is that games have changed alot - games started like Pong, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, even Gauntlet... all of these are (a) focused completely on gameplay and (b) have no depth to them. But over time people have turned to games for more than just the arcade, they have become a primary form of entertainment that replaces television and movies, thus story and plot get involved. And as people get more "serious" about games naturally some of them developed more depth than those aforementioned arcade style games.
While yes both skyrim and TW3 are RPGs, I don't think that is a very good classification to say they compete directly. Skyrim focusses on gameplay and depth, mostly. The witcher is focussed on Depth and Story. Diablo is mostly gameplay with a tiny bit of story and depth. Street Fighter is all gameplay with almost no story or depth. Uncharted is mostly story with a small focus on gameplay and zero depth. Soulsborne has depth and gameplay, but very little focus on story (you can finish them and have no idea what the plot is...)
So that is a long-winded way of saying that you can't say which is better between TW3 and Skyrim, as it depends on your personal focus. I'm not very focussed on story - its fine as long as it gives context to gameplay but doesn't take too much time away from it. I AM focused on gameplay and depth, so I really like Dark Souls, I enjoyed Skyrim but TW3 bored me. For some other people, TW3 and games like Journey were actually worth playing - or so I hear - presumably because they are more focussed on story.
(PS, to the "Justin Biebow" comment, I thought all bows in Skryim had to be named "Kneecapper" or the like)
After 50 hours of no problems whatsoever they are starting to pop up. I have had the game freeze twice and had two different never ending load screens... I'm hoping that it doesn't become a trend.
@kyleforrester87: - I'm really hoping it was just a fluke thing. It's the only game I have played since it came out and plan on putting many more hours in on the PS4 Pro.
@Splat: Did you play it a lot on last gen? Are you going a different route with your character this time? I'm throwing everything into archery at the moment
@kyleforrester87: - Yeah, I put in over 100 hours on PS3 before it became unplayable because of freezing. I was an archer for the most part. I went with an Ork tank build this time around. I'm using a bit of magic but mainly just restoration stuff.
That is one of my favorite things about Skyrim. They don't handcuff you to one kinda of class. You can mix and match or play anyway you want. Any loot you find or craft is usable.
There are other RPG's with better combat, story, voice acting, ect but it's hard to top Skyrim in the wandering around and creating your own adventure.
