Is anyone else excited that the game is available? I'm currently downloading the Vita version though I hear the PS4 version has additional content. Is this true?
@KratosMD Well the series does try to stay true to its roots, iirc this series has been around longer than Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior / Dragon Quest, at least in the Western Hemisphere. I'm actually amazed at how pretty the game looks even on Vita! It looks like a PS3 game and a pretty good looking one at that!
I'm very excited for this also. Was torn between playing the Ps4 version or the Vita.Memories Of Celceta was a fantastic game that got me through a hard time in hospital a year or so ago.It was the first Ys game I'd played and was instantly excited for this.
Personally I decided to hold off on the demo cuz most don't do the game justice.
Have decided on the Ps4 version but as I'm busy into the Witcher 3 at moment it may be a while before I get started on it
Correct me if I'm wrong, but all the Ys games are standalone, yes?
I've still got Memories of Celcetta in my backlog, but I'm kind of in a mood to play a newer game on my Vita. Playing FF3 currently and it's incredibly frustrating.

@Fight_Teza_Fight like I said I have only played one but from what I have heard is each game is standalone but maybe have a few of the same characters turn up just for fan service.
Seriously though if you have Memories Of Celceta in your backlog..I'd start it asap...such a fantastic game!
@Wazeddie22 Technically there are nods to previous games in the series in some of the games such as flashbacks, plus some recurring characters, but for the most part they are standalone. You certainly won't be confused or spoil too much from older games by playing the games out of order.
Oddly Memories of Celceta is one of the only games in the series that is 100% self-contained, Adol is really the only character from previous games and the flashbacks are all related to things regarding the game itself rather then previous games in the series.
@Wazeddie22 Thanks. Guess I'll start with Celcetta. May be once I finish it YsVIII will be on sale.

@Wazeddie22@Fight_Teza_Fight You won't regret it, especially if you enjoy retro action-RPG's such as Secret of Mana! Also is it just me or does Adol's new English voice actor sound like Kirito from Sword Art Online?!
@Reanfan7 I have never played a Sword Art Online so can't answer that question but I wouldn't be surprised if it was SAO is another rpg series I'd like to try but there are so many I wouldn't know where to start...and that's why I like the Y games already, cuz they are standalone and ok like you said some of the series has certain characters and memories crossing over but the game feels complete and you don't feel like you have to play the others to understand the story.By the way what does "Y" even mean?lol
I thought the name Ys came from the mythological city that sunk into the sea? Essentially Atlantis 2.0 but located in Breton, France? I could be off my rocker..but I read a book about Ys (the city not the series) like a decade or so ago so I could be remembering wrong.
Either way my game is on the way from Amazon, looking forward to it!

@Ryu_Niiyama Interesting!Who knows, you could be right...I would rather believe something like that than the fact they just weren't very original when coming up with a name for the franchise
Has anyone else noticed that the music that plays when setting up camp is a remixed version of the night-time theme from The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky? It's a pretty cool nod to Falcom's other flagship franchise! ^_^
@OutspokenHuman Welcome!
Yeah I've got Memories of Celcetta on my next to play on Vita list. Ys VIII isn't going anywhere. Might even be able to snag it on a discount.

As far as I know the game has sold through 75,000+ units on Vita and 125,000+ on PS4. Certainly better than most of Falcom's games. Also Trails of Cold Steel III sold through nearly 90,000 units in Japan on its launch week so I think Falcom might FINALLY be recognized as the fantastic developer it is!
Ah I see that news about ToCS III was already reported here at Push Square! ^_^
