I finished it today. I would probably still give a slight edge to UC2 being my favorite but it's close. Graphic wise UC4 is in a league of it's own. It blows my mind how Naughty Dog some how pulls PC level graphics out of a console.
What are peoples opinions on the Washington Post review which was full of spoilers and negativity? And also the decision for metacritic to award the game a 4/10 even though the reviewer did not score the game.
@dryrain: I thought it was a 'spoof' review and isn't there an online petition to have it removed? I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't think spoof reviews and those with no score or spoilers should be collected by metacritic - only legitimate reviews - not always easy to determine of course.
Problem is, people will look at metacritic score and would probably read the 'worst' scores to see what people didn't like, what problems a game may have, why they scored it so low and in the process have their experience spoiled in this case. I know the industry uses metacritic too. Its great for collating a lot of reviews and giving an average. That score brings U4 down by 1pt (from 94 to 93) - not a great deal but under the circumstances, it shouldn't be there.
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@dryrain: Metacritic assigns scores to reviews all the time in the film and music sector, it's just less common in games. The reviewer's entitled to his opinion, but I don't really agree with it. It's good to have contrasting points of view, though.
Assigning scores when one isn't provided in the original review is stupid, but that's not my problem with the review. My problem with is the same one I have with plenty that I have seen over the year and it's an issue in both positive and negative reviews... Spoilers. Either leave them the hell out or put a warning at the top, it's not that hard. Most are good with leaving them out but every once in a while one like this gets through.
Finished this last night and despite a slight lull in the middle of the game, it has been absolutely incredible! I won't say too much in fear of spoiling anything...
But I've been sat in the office at work today, just feeling a bit sat that there are no more Uncharted games for me to play!
I AM SIEGMEYER OF CATARINA AND YOU SHALL FEEL MY WRATH!
Already played the campaign four times. Can't say I enjoy PVP multiplayer, though. Only playing it at the moment for the Relic points. Co-op can't come soon enough.:/
I was a little worried going in that driving the jeep would feel "clunky" or they would over use it. I felt it handled very well and was used the perfect amount. I really enjoyed driving around Madagascar with Sam and Sully. There was also a part in chapter 17 driving with Elena that was very well done with some fantastic music playing.
@Splat:
Yeah, not going to lie I was somewhat concerned of an Arkham Knight situation where the Batmobile was used too much and frankly just wasn't fun to drive. Fortunately ND struck the right balance and all that fun banter in those segments, especially with Sam and Sully, made it highly enjoyable.
@get2sammyb: Not disputing that they are different but if we're talking game of the year I'd have to give that to Dark Souls 3 so far, over Uncharted 4.
Although, I would argue that if both games are (to a point) about exploration and discovery, DS3 absolutely nails the sense of wonder. You regularly come across places that you feel might not have been found by other players. Conversely, Uncharted 4 feels like you're on a monorail traveling round a safari park. It's a nice day out but I don't really feel like I'm discovering ancient ruins.
You are right that U4 deserves points for trying to evolve certain aspects of the formula though.
Dark Souls 3 was my goty till I played FE: Fates that is, been a long time since a game has got me playing it for hours without noticing but Fates is just incredible.
