I really don't need to pre order games due to the ridiculous back log i have but just lately I can't seem to stop.Octopath Traveller and Ys for the Switch were my last pre-orders and i have yet to find time to play them.
However I do have Spiderman special edition and Dragon Quest XI on pre-order for the ps4 and as Dragon Quest is my most hyped for game EVER i WILL be starting that on the day.
I'm trying real hard to not click the pre order button for Valkyria Chronicles 4 on the Switch after playing the fantastic demo..

Try not preorder much as I really do not see the point, especially months in advance. Usually only 2 - 3 games a year, and then it will be a couple of weeks before it is released.

I've been burnt a couple of times (Watchdogs and Destiny) when I have not enjoyed the game so the game will usually be a title I pretty much know I will enjoy, or if I want to support the dev or type of game (like God of War, single player with no dlc).

So at the mo I have nothing pre-ordered and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I think the only game I've ever pre-ordered was Fallout New Vegas, for the special edition. Quite tempted to pre-order Red Dead though.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@RogerRoger The early good reviews of God of War was one of reasons why I pre-ordered it. I dislike it when I hear of review embargoes and makes me think they either have something to hide or have not much confidence in their product.

@LastYearsModel By any chance, do you write in to GameCentral? Your user name is the same as a regular contributed to that site.

I think I pre-ordered Monster Hunter a few days before it came out. And Dead Cells a few hours before it came out. But I like to be confident it's a geat game I'm getting, so I rarely pre-order, what with the embargos usually being so close to release.

I tend to pre order quite a lot personally, I think it's generally quite difficult to buy a poor game these days, particularly when we are talking about AAA titles.

I have Dead Cells (physical copy), Spiderman, Red Dead, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us and Days Gone pre ordered currently. While I am not suggesting these are all guaranteed masterpieces, I have seen enough to feel confident that I will personally really enjoy these games.

I don't tend to pay much attention to reviews and online negativity, these days there is so much information and gameplay footage available that it's quite easy to determine if a given game appeals to me or not. Once I see enough to pique my interest I will pre order with my fave online games retailer who don't charge you until dispatch.

Currently...

Spider-Man - Special Edition
Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Croft Edition
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Ultimate Edition
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Gold Edition
Destiny 2: Forsaken - Digital Deluxe Edition

These were all pre-ordered because of the fact these are all 'special' editions and, with the exception of D2:F, the type of game of tend to pre-order - I don't normally pre-order normal 'editions'. D2:F is less of a 'game' and more an add-on and I don't think its available physically and pre-ordered for ease and 'bonus' content - especially as its the game I have been playing the most lately.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@RogerRoger it's just the new way of saying "version includes season pass"

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

mookysam

@RogerRoger That reminds me of Assassin's Creed (something) having about 10 different versions. Not one of them included absolutely everything. Whatever happened to just having one standard version and a nice special edition?

@RogerRoger Lol, What comes with the Mini-Fig Edition?
But yeah, it’s pretty frustrating. I’m not a fan of DLC and post-release content (except for performance enhancing content)

@RogerRoger You forgot the Does Not Include The Game Edition... which sadly does exist.

@ShadowWarrior I have OCD, which (in my case, as it affects everybody differently) unfortunately means I can't add any game to my collection unless it's a brand new, factory-sealed copy. I wish it weren't so because, you're right, it's nuts to pre-order something like Spyro or Team Sonic Racing if I'm not gonna play it right away; there'll be plenty of copies, and it'll only be cheaper in a month or two. Alas, my brain won't let me be so logical.

You can still buy brand new factory sealed copies years later, from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, GameStop etc, and usually for $20-$40 or even cheaper...That's how I save money on video games I want to play.

Unless you think it's so niche of a game that it'll go out of print crazy fast.

@ToddlerNaruto I was thinking the same, in the UK Amazon, Game, Shopto, Simply Games are pretty good at offering games that are new still sealed months after release.

@ToddlerNaruto Soz, I probs should have said at least months after release. But I can only go by personal experience, I've not purchased any game marked as new that old online, so can't comment on that.

@RogerRoger I seem to remember Amazon had a bit of a reputation for that a few years back, but I've certainly not experienced it in the PS4 era. Whenever I see a game on Amazon that is not being sold by Amazon, I go to one my other trusted sites. There are plenty of other reliable sites out there to not solely rely on Amazon.

Oh and you didn't sound like a jerk, so no need to apologise.
