@TheBrandedSwordsman honestly, I'm trying not to think about the 'guts' of the game... as I am easily afflicted by media (TV, Film, Games, Books, Comics etc) where I have had a particular theory, or certain wants and needs from a future installment... and then even though the end-product is good (or even great etc) my enjoyment has been somewhat soured by it not being what 'I' wanted.

So now, I look forward to things (like I've been purposefully avoiding all spoilers for WandaVision, patiently waiting for this weekend when I can binge the whole thing) and get excited about things (Elden Ring stands out as THE thing I'm looking forward to above all else... yes even the end of lockdown!) but I now consciously avoid imagining what the actual resulting product will be like. I'm just sure it will be great, in whatever shape or form it may be.

@colonelkilgore I see, well that's a very positive view to take, colonel. Also, how do you think Elden Ring will look on PS5 compared to Demon's Souls on PS5? Bearing in mind that Bluepoint did all they could to create a visually stunning remasterpiece (See what I did there?) compared to a new IP that's actually made by From Software, the strength of whose games hasn't historically been the graphics. What do you think? I'm sorry if I'm making you repeat yourself if you feel you have already covered this in your previous answer, hopefully I've stumbled across some new ground with this enquiry.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Somehow “Light Souls” just doesn’t quite carry the same impact, does it? 😂
But I do think it looks fine, lighting and color palette-wise. Sekiro seemed a little brighter as well, so it would be good to see From spread its wings a little to diversity with the new IP.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Remasterpiece... I like it.

Graphics-wise, I’m one of the rare people who love how From games look. I know they notoriously struggle with frame-rate &/or frame-pacing, I know character faces can look like they were designed by a pre-schooler, and yes resolutions haven’t been the best... but that aesthetic just elevates it above everything visually (at least in my opinion).

In regards to how the potential PS5 version will looks to the PS4 version... i’ d imagine very similar. Probably just a 60 FPS rather than 30 FPS & 4K to 1080 resolutions on PS5 and (base) PS4 respectively.

On top of that, maybe the potential PS5 version, if released later will include any dlc’s that were released after the initial PS4 version.

@colonelkilgore The level of detail in the worlds they design is second to none imo. When I first arrive in a area, I usually spent a bit marveling at the architecture and the little things like the gold carvings in the walls etc.

I think you're overanalyzing it a bit too much @TheBrandedSwordsman. It'll be ready when it's ready and regardless of the colour palette the game has it'll have fantastic art direction, design, atmosphere and all the other goodness that Fromsoft's games are typically known for.

Hell ... I wouldn't care if it was a cascade of bubblegum pink and neon purple so long as everything else was intact ha ha

@JohnnyShoulder agreed... and it all has that individually hand-built look. No copy-paste of assets, just everything built for that one and only placement within the environ.

https://wccftech.com/elden-ring-multiplayer-class/ Support of what I said about Bright or Light Souls, definitely looking like a high-fantasy, George R.R Martin endeavour, deriving some influence from Sekiro's colour scheme.

Bbased on what I've seen in the leaked footage I think it will have a distinctly 'autumnal' quality.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Yeah, especially when you go back there in Dark Souls 3. That gave me goosebumps when I realised what was happening!

And I seem to remember it more in Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 @colonelkilgore. I think that has more to do with that they were both built from the ground up with last gen consoles in mind. Even stuff like the fabric on your clothes and being able to see the metal trinkets, I found all kinds of lovely to look at.

@JohnnyShoulder will probably seem strange to some but I spend inordinate amounts of time revolving the camera around my character, marvelling at how the light reflects on my armour and particularly the 3d texture on shields. I really need to get a life!

@colonelkilgore I do the same! Probably one of the reasons why it takes me so damn long to finish games! 🤣

Same I just love how the Fromsoftware games look, I'd imagine Elden Ring will be 1800P/60FPS on PS5, much like Sekiro was.

@colonelkilgore I completely agree! I’ve long been trying to figure out what it is about FS games that make them so visually arresting.

There is a sense of history, of a time and place that is so well communicated. I view FS much the same way I view Kubrick - the master of the lens/frame. It’s like no matter where I put the camera, a compositionally balanced, beautifully hand crafted vista awaits me. Further, something beyond mere aesthetics is usually being communicated: a dim light beyond the fog offering a brief beacon of hope before a hidden enemy slashes you down in a moment of weakness, reminding you that a wandering, unfocused mind in a hostile world hungry for death is dangerous. Or the timely view from atop a tower showing how far you’ve come, offering a moment of respite and orientation when all hope and direction feels lost.

There truly is a ‘feeling’ to these games that is unique to them

@Jimmer-jammer really well put as per JJ.

I don't know what this says about my psyche but it's like Miyazaki has personally extracted my own personal deepest darkest dreamscapes from deep within my unconscious/subconscious. Their games 'speak' to us on almost a Jungian level.

@TheBrandedSwordsman I’m hoping so man... kinda resigned to a 2022 release now though regardless of the reveal 🥺

At this point (after the leaked trailer fragments and stuff) it will be weird if they don't have at least a trailer there.

@TheBrandedSwordsman I’m thinking we’ll finally see something official here and I’m still hopeful for a fall/winter release.
