Every time I start playing Resident evil Village on my PS5, my game freezes after about 20-30 minutes. This is with ray-tracing enabled. When it is disabled, the same thing happens after about an hour. The game itself is frozen, but not my system. I can still access the main system menu, quit the application and launch it once again. I never had any issues like this with any other game on my system. My PS5 is in an optimal spot, it has proper airflow and it is placed vertically on the stand. This doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem, but there are some people who confirmed that they have the same issue with the game over on reddit.
EDIT : After much testing, it would appear that the only partial solution is to disable ray-tracing. This allows some players to play for longer before crashing. For others, the problem is way worse. They can’t even get past the main menu without the game freezing. It would appear that this issue is present on a small number of PS5 consoles. What is exactly causing it is still unkown. Hopefully Capcom will see this and release a patch with a fix for the game.
Put in a few hours on the weekend with ray tracing on and didn't have a single issue. It's really strange how things like this affect different users differently. Must be a nightmare to troubleshoot as a dev.
I'm on disc by the way, don't know if that differs to you?
Thank you for your reply Matthew
It really is strange. I bought the digital deluxe edition. I have seen some reports from PC players who said that having HDR turned on caused performance issues. Did you play with HDR on or off?
I downloaded from PS store when released, unplayable as it froze every few min... After many complaints PS network refused me a refund, I then deleted entire game and bought disk... Unfortunately this didn’t solve problem as the game still freezes.... Don’t know what to do... Anybody have a suggestion?? I even emailed Capcom but still waiting on response... Thanks guys if ya got a response... Just wanna play , am I asking for a lot??? Oh, and by the way , I’ll never download or purchase anything from PlayStation ever again!!!! Screw them...
Hey @Marcwag1
I am not 100% sure, but I believe that HDR might be causing this issue. I just finished a two hour session with both HDR and ray-tracing disabled and the game did not freeze. Try disabling both and let me know if that helped.
Hi Dexal, my TV doesn’t support HDR so I cannot turn on or off and also I can’t find anywhere where I can switch Ray Tracing @Dexal ..... I read online to try these remedy’s but can’t do either.... it’s basically a new Sony ( a few years old ) thank you so much for replying!!!
Hi Dexal, ok I found Ray tracing , duh!! through the PS5 and it was already off and again my TV says doesn’t support HDR .... Anything else you might suggest??? Thanks again for trying... Marc
@Marcwag1 So both ray-tracing and HDR are turned off and your game still freezes after 20-30 minutes?
Hmmm, I noticed a weird trend lately. Tell me, is your PS5 placed horizontally or vertically?
Hi Dexal, no it doesn’t freeze after 20-30 minutes it’s freezing 1-2 minutes in, the first five days I’d get 2-3 hours in, now it either freezes right as I go to pick up the knife to stab Lady D or at the title screen..... And the PS 5 is standing up ( vertical)
@Marcwag1 Now, I am not sure if this will solve anything, but one person over on my reddit post told me that he has two PS5 consoles and the one that is placed vertically has these freezing issues, while the horizontal one runs the game flawlessly with ray-tracing and HDR enabled. Could you try placing your console horizonatally and letting me know if that changed anything for you?
I will absolutely try laying it down, I can turn Ray tracing on but my TV doesn’t support HDR.... Let you know if this works... Thanks a million for trying to help... Really appreciate you 🤟🤟🤟
Hi Dexal, ok I laid it down, still frozen when hit start, stood it back up , unplugged for a few minutes, restart PS and still freezing when I hit start now, can’t even get into game... This is a friken joke, I’m in $120+ and can’t play this piece of crap... Really frustrating, shipping and handling on EBay purchase it cost me over $800 and can’t play this... I think I only have one option and that’s to wait for a patch from Capcom.... Just a shame
@Marcwag1 I was thinking the orientation may have something to do with the metal liquid cooling that the PS5 is using, and so far everybody who had any issues told me that their console is placed vertically.
I guess this is not the case. Really a shame how much money you spent on this game for it not to work. I seems that both the digital and dics versions can freeze, so you can at least sell the disc and get most of your money back from that purchase, since you are stuck with your digital version that could not be refunded.
@Marcwag1 The provided cable with the PS5 is HDMI 2.1
That is currently the best version of HDMI that supports 48Gb/s
It really shouldn’t make a difference if the cables are gold tipped or not.
If you want, you can post your PSN name here so I can add you and reach you more easily.
Hi Dexal, my PSN is Wedwags4 ..... also here’s my email... [email protected] ...... I live in Las Vegas .... been here since ‘79 .... looking forward to talking.... So you agree that I really have nothing else to try but wait for a patch ( hopefully)
