Its the first time i have seen this and it looks good is anyone else going to buy it?

Embark on an epic journey across war-torn 19th-century Japan in this combat-focused open-world action RPG from Team NINJA, the veteran studio behind Nioh and NINJA GAIDEN.
Japan, 1863. After three centuries of the Tokugawa Shogunate’s oppressive rule, the Black Ships of the West descend upon the nation’s borders and the country falls into a state of turmoil. Amidst the chaos of war, disease and political unrest, a nameless warrior forges their own path, holding the very fate of Japan in their hands.

@Max_Headroom My most anticipated game at the moment! I’ll be picking it up day 1. Team Ninja are one of the best out there for developing combat systems in my opinion. I think it’s set in a very interesting era and looks to offer a lot of variety. Can not wait!

I have been well into Blue Eye Samurai and was considering picking up GOT, but now I am weighing this up instead. Looks a little shonkier but I don’t necessarily mind that. I’ll check out a few reviews and see.

@DoomGuy_117 Yeah, genuinely the best thing I have seen in a while.. watched it a couple of times, back to back. Hoping it doesn’t just fall off after season 1.

@kyleforrester87 I also was blown away by Blue Eye Samurai. As for Ghost/Ronin - Might be helpful to break it down to whichever time period interests you the most. GoT is set in the 13th century while RotR is set in the 19th. Though it could be interesting to follow Blue Eye Samurai with RotR, which chronicles the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. 🤷‍♂️

@kyleforrester87 The nice thing is, doesn’t look like you can really go wrong either way.

I have this pre-ordered, along with Alone in the Dark. Looking forward to both, so I don't know which one I'll be playing first.

@kyleforrester87 The video posted above by @Black_Swordsman does give some interesting early impressions. The reviewer (Fightin Cowboy, if you know him from popular Souls walkthroughs) compares Rise of the Ronin to other games it pulls inspiration from, including Ghost of Tsushima.

In a nutshell, he feels like RotR pulls clearly from Team Ninja’s own games, Nioh, Wo Long, and FF: Stranger of Paradise, as well as from GoT and Sekiro. However each of the aspects it borrows from those games were done better in the older games. He says RotR feels dated and surprisingly more flat than those PS4 or cross-gen games.

The combat for RotR seems to be more similar to Sekiro, Nioh 1/2, and Wo Long. The open world exploration aspect seem more similar to Ghost of Tsushima.

So anyways, I guess the point is, if you’re looking for a quality open world experience then get GoT instead. If you’re looking more for tight combat and gameplay then get Sekiro or Nioh 2. But if you like the idea of “jack of all trades, master of none” where you get blander versions of both combat and exploration, get RotR. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Of course, this is all based on his assessment of just the opening few hours, so take with a grain of salt.

(For the record I thought GoT was fantastic. Highly recommend if you want a samurai style Assassin’s Creed game)

@Th3solution Thanks.. Yeah ROTR does look pretty dated and flat. Oddly I am often drawn to less polished games, though. But it's a concern, given how much a new game costs these days.

Does anyone know if you can turn the damage bars above enemies heads off?

Previews for this seem to be all over the place, but I loved Ghost of Tsushima and the modern RPG AC games which this seems to be heavily inspired by + it has an easy mode, so this seems like an easy pick up for me. Maybe not on release as this year has been stacked for me, but definitely one to grab later in the year for sure.

@Black_Swordsman I’m pretty sure Dragons Dogma II will “win” this one. It’s an established I.P., has better graphics and is likely a far more streamable experience, which seems to be a big part of a games success these days. As for RotR, I expect it will be a good game and if it is, I hope it can find an audience. Tough to think too much farther than that until we play it 😄

I guess its down to which type of games you prefer DD2 will not be winning anything here -
