Invisible, Inc. (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $4.99/£3.99
In a genre that's traditionally concerned more with open combat, Invisible, Inc.'s stealth focus is a revelation. Chock full of smart game design, you're gifted plenty of options in how you approach your mission, and despite having so many tools at your disposal, it remains satisfyingly challenging, without ever crossing over into being unfair. While the roguelike progression could potentially be a downside for some, the high level of customisation around the difficulty settings will swiftly rob you of this complaint. Simply put, if you have even a passing interest in turn-based strategy games, you shouldn't let this exceptional title sneak under your radar.

An all-rounder that marries tense gameplay with compelling characterisation and sublime presentation, Joel and Ellie's cross-country escapade is as sombre as it is heart-warming.

The Messenger (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $3.99/£3.19
The Messenger is a rock solid action platformer that balances out its retro stylings with modern touches and brilliantly slick controls. Blasting through the lengthy story is compelling, as new story beats and abilities are thrown into the mix. It perhaps flies a little too close to the sun later on as you hunt down the final few collectibles, but by and large, it's a cloud-stepping joy. Fans of 2D action games should have a blast with this, and that's a message we're happy to pass along.
Neva (PS5)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $15.99/£12.79
A follow-up to the picturesque platformer GRIS, Neva is just as beautiful. Featuring truly gorgeous art and animation, this game is a little more action-packed as you follow young woman Alba and her companion wolf through a treacherous land. It's not the deepest game in the world, but it really packs an emotional punch thanks to its incredible presentation.
Nex Machina (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $3.39/£3.99
Among Housemarque's best games, Nex Machina is an exquisite arcade shooter. Developed in collaboration with arcade gaming royalty Eugene Jarvis, this is a twin-stick shooter that has you zipping through hundreds of levels, keeping your score up by mowing down hordes of enemies. It's incredibly addictive chasing higher and higher scores, and a high level of challenge means you always have a new mountain to conquer. Incredibly responsive and a feast for the eyes, Nex Machina is fantastic.
Okami HD (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $4.99/£3.99
A PS2 game that's definitely deserving of a PS4 remaster, Okami remains a classic action adventure. Capcom's lovingly made tile still holds up in all the right areas, from its amazing art direction to its innovative gameplay design. A classic in the eyes of many.
Paradise Killer (PS5)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $4.99/£3.99
If you're looking for something wildly different, Paradise Killer is a fantastic option. This game places you down on an open world island in order to solve the mystery surrounding a mass murder. The hook is that the end result is entirely of your making; you're free to explore, talk to suspects, and find evidence, with no hints other than your own discoveries. More than any other detective game, this one gives you total agency over the investigation and the trial that follows, with full responsibility for tracking down the truth resting with you. A fascinating, well-written game that oozes with style to boot — especially on PS5, where neat DualSense use and ray tracing bring the island alive.
Pyre (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $3.99/£3.19
Pyre is a fascinating combination of narrative RPG and sports that only a studio like Supergiant can pull off. Playing for the promise to escape purgatory, you accrue a team of misfits and engage in competitions against rivals. Win or lose, the story progresses with numerous branching paths. With gorgeous artwork and music and an emotional tale, this oddball precursor to Hades is well worth playing.
The Sexy Brutale (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $3.99/£3.19
The Sexy Brutale is an ingenious murder mystery game that's somewhat overlooked these days. Set within the walls of the titular mansion, your job is to work out who's behind a string of murders occurring throughout the grounds. On top of that, the whole location is caught in a time loop, meaning everything occurs during the same timeframe. As you untangle the mysteries, the mansion gradually opens up like an intricate puzzle box. A charming, clever puzzler.
Sonic Mania (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $7.99/£6.39
After years of divisive 3D games, SEGA partnered with indie developers — and true fans of Sonic — to revert back to the hedgehog's glory days. Sonic Mania is a combination of classic zones and brand new ones, celebrating his 2D era in one of his strongest outings ever. The classic gameplay is back and better than before with the drop dash ability, and there's multiplayer and Blue Spheres stages to enjoy too. A seriously well-rounded game that old school Sonic fans will adore.
Tearaway Unfolded (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $7.99/£4.79
The original version of Tearaway really took advantage of the PS Vita's bells and whistles, but the game is no less charming and inventive in its PS4 iteration, Tearaway Unfolded. Including some new features for the DualShock 4 controller, this is largely the same brilliant paper-based platformer, and it looks fantastic in HD on a big telly. Uniquely tactile and customisable in imaginative ways, this is an often overlooked gem on PS4.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $9.99/£7.99
A fitting end to one of PlayStation's finest franchises, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End spins a more mature yarn without losing any of the bombast that has defined the brand over the past decade. Naughty Dog proves yet again that its lightyears ahead of all other developers in the story-telling stakes, and while some slow pacing may put off adrenaline junkies, the Californian company deserves kudos for allowing its latest to breathe, building towards a crescendo that feels both final and fulfilling.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $9.99/£7.99
It's hard to fault the Uncharted PS3 trilogy — especially when all three games have been neatly compiled into one remastered package. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a no-brainer if you're on the market for cinematic action. While the first Uncharted is a bit shaky by more modern standards, it's still interesting to revisit the adventure that started it all. Meanwhile, Uncharted 2 and 3 remain genre-defining in a lot of ways, which is a testament to Naughty Dog's commitment to quality.
What Remains of Edith Finch (PS5)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£15.99
- Lowest ever price: $4.99/£3.99
What Remains of Edith Finch is a difficult game to talk about without spoiling what makes it special. It's a narrative-driven experience that only lasts a few hours, but it packs in so much inventive design and imaginative sequences that it will stick with you for longer than anything else. Playing as the titular Edith Finch, you return to her rickety, unusual family house and unearth what happened to everyone. It's emotional, surprising, characterful, and unique. Now also on PS5, there's no excuse to skip this excellent adventure.
Persona 4 Golden (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£17.99
- Lowest ever price: $9.99/£8.99
Considered to be one of the most memorable Japanese RPGs of all time, Persona 4 Golden is an excellent video game. Set in the sleepy town of Inaba, you strive to solve a series of strange murders, all while exploring an abstract world that exists inside of TVs. Initially released on PS Vita, the excellent turn-based combat and a brilliant cast of characters will engross you just as much on PS4. The sheer style of Persona 4, along with its outstanding soundtrack, are just the icing on this deliciously golden cake.
Return of the Obra Dinn (PS4)
- PS Store price: $19.99/£18.99
- Lowest ever price: $11.99/£11.39
Return of the Obra Dinn is a truly excellent puzzle adventure game. Stepping aboard the mysterious ship, you're charged with working out how every person aboard perished. At your disposal is a time-rewinding pocket watch that can give you clues to what was happening moments before each death, and a book in which to record who everyone is and what their fates were. The way the game slowly gives you snippets of information, the static death scenes, the story that unfolds as you figure out what occurred — it's all so wonderfully delivered.

Great list! The only problem is I own or have played them almost all of them. But thanks for the heads up on Kill Knight, Arranger & Jazzpunk and the prod to push a few of these up my backlog.
Nex Machina lowest ever price £3.99
YEAH RIGHT!
Writing up cheap Sonic Mania but then linking to the more expensive and improved Sonic Mania Plus seems a bit off. TBF it has bothered me for years now that places still promote the base game after Plus released but you aren't helping.
Thanks for the reminder on Balatro. There's currently a version, Balatro+, on Apple Arcade I've been meaning to try. I mean it's a card playing game, how bad can it be?
Whenever I think of the best game deals under $20 I always immediately think of The Witcher 3 Complete. Not sure what the normal price is but I bought it for $15 years ago and it seems to be on sale for that price fairly regularly. Probably the best $15 I've ever spent on gaming. Also why I never pay full price or buy games when they release, even great games can get better over time. Nintendo 1st party excluded, even 8 yo Switch games are still $60 w/ extra for dlc.🤑
Fez is still awesome (whatever you think of a certain individual attached to it). I’m getting Thank Goodness Your Here as soon as I’ve finished System Shock. Just Crow Things looks really cool too. I’d highly recommend Animal Well too (and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes if you like hardcore puzzles)
For me, games at this level mean not having to sit through hours of dialogue or cutscenes. They cut to the chase and let you just play the game!
I don’t understand the hype about Journey. It wasn’t really a game; it required no skill or effort to complete, which you could do in a couple of hours.
Vampire Survivors is the best game you'll ever buy in terms of value for money.
Some absolute bangers in here. Anyone who hasn't played Supergiant's back catalogue really needs to get on that though, they are all superb.
What Remains of Edith Finch is my gaming comfort food. I've played through it so mahy times yet still uncover minute details each playthrough. Truly incredible. Also love Rapture (mainly for the soundtrack), and Thank Goodness You're Here is pretty hilarious.
I loved a Short Hike. Played it a few years ago on Series X and its such a chill game. You can easily beat it in a couple of hours and its a great way to get quick achievements.
