What are all Cyberpunk 2077's endings and how do you unlock them? As part of our Cyberpunk 2077 guide, we're going to outline all of the game's primary endings and how to unlock them. It's worth noting that your Lifepath (See Also: Cyberpunk 2077: Which Lifepath Should You Choose?), playstyle, and decisions up to the Nocturne Op55N1 mission do not have any implications on the ending you get, although your decision to save Takemura during the Search and Destroy mission does. For more information on that, refer to the following: Cyberpunk 2077: How to Save Takemura in Search and Destroy.
We should stress that, while attempts have been made to preserve the plot, the nature of this article means that it does include story spoilers. The good news is that you can easily replay the final mission in the game by selecting the Sure, Just One More Gig option after the credits conclude, meaning that nothing is missable. For more information, refer to the following: Cyberpunk 2077: All Trophies and How to Unlock the Platinum.
One final thing to note is that, while it doesn't ultimately alter the storyline, you will unlock some additional dialogue choices in the epilogue depending on who you romance. You can find out more through the following link: Cyberpunk 2077: All Romance Options.
Phantom Liberty Ending: How Does It Work?
Through Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion, you get access to a brand new ending. What's interesting is that this conclusion can be triggered long before you finish the main game's story, and is essentially a completely separate way to roll the credits.
You can find much more information about the Phantom Liberty ending further into this guide.
Cyberpunk 2077: All Endings and How to Unlock Them
Below you'll find a list of all Cyberpunk 2077 endings and how to unlock them, complete with details on what each ending actually means for V.
The Devil Ending
In The Devil ending, you accept Hanako Arasaka's deal in exchange for help with the Relic. This ending changes based on whether you save Takemura in the main mission, Search and Destroy.
How to unlock The Devil ending
Follow these steps to unlock The Devil ending:
- Save Takemura during Search and Destroy if you want him to show up during this ending (for more information: Cyberpunk 2077: How to Save Takemura in Search and Destroy) — also needed for The Devil Trophy
- During the main mission Nocturne Op55N1, after you've met with Hanako, head out onto the balcony with Misty, and talk to Johnny
- Select the "Think trusting Arasaka’s risky but worth it" dialogue option
- Select "Take Omega Blockers" to lock this choice in
- Complete the mission Last Carress
- Complete the mission Totalimmortal
- Complete the mission Where Is My Mind?
The Devil ending consequences
In accepting Arasaka's help, V is taken to one of the corporation's consciousness storage facilities in outer space. The Relic is successfully removed through surgery but the damage the chip has done to V's body is seemingly irreversible. V can choose to either have their consciousness copied and uploaded to Arasaka's storage, or return to earth and live out what little life they have left.
The Devil ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- V can, in theory, live on forever by having their consciousness copied and stored in Arasaka's archives
- Or V can return to Night City and live out the rest of their days
- V fulfills their deal with Takemura and earns his respect
The Bad
- No guarantee that V's consciousness will ever be restored to a body by Arasaka
- V has just months to live if they decide to return home
- Johnny would undoubtedly see this decision as a betrayal of what he believed in
The Sun Ending
In The Sun ending, V becomes a Night City legend, etched into edgerunner history by pulling off a successful assault on Arasaka Tower. This ending changes based on your romantic partner.
How to unlock The Sun ending
Follow these steps to unlock The Sun ending (other steps are required in order to unlock the second, secret path to The Sun ending, which is detailed later in this guide):
- Complete Rogue's series of side quests
- In Rogue's Chippin' In side quest, when talking to Johnny at the oil fields, you need to select the right dialogue options in order to unlock Rogue's next side quest, Blistering Love
- Select the following dialogue options to ensure Blistering Love is unlocked, as well as the secret ending (more on that later in this guide): "Nah, fucked that up too", "What do you want from me?", "Ok. But as second chances go, this is your last".
- In Rogue's Blistering Love side quest, give control to Johnny and see the date through
- During the main mission Nocturne Op55N1, after you've met with Hanako, head out onto the balcony with Misty, and talk to Johnny
- Select the "Think you and Rogue should go" dialogue choice
- Select: "Take Pseudoendotrizine" to lock this choice in
- Complete the mission For Whom the Bell Tolls
- Complete the mission Knockin' on Heaven's Door
- Complete the mission Changes; choose to return to V's body and have Johnny go with Alt
- Complete the mission Path to Glory
The Sun ending consequences
Giving Johnny full control of V's body results in a successful assault on Arasaka Tower, with Rogue in tow. Alt is uploaded to Arasaka's mainframe and she brings the corporation to its knees. She also holds up her end of the deal, separating V and Johnny. However, the damage that has been done to V's body is seemingly irreversible. Still, V returns to Night City as a living legend, where they aim to complete their craziest heist yet.
The Sun ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- V realises their dream of becoming a legend
- V is recognised as one of Night City's greatest mercs, living the high life in an expensive home
- V's romantic partner (River or Kerry) will stick around
- It's unclear what V will receive from Mr. Blue Eyes in return for completing the Crystal Palace heist, but it's speculated that the reward has something to do with V's condition — a possible cure?
- Johnny gets to be with Alt again — albeit in cyberspace
The Bad
- V is living on borrowed time thanks to the Relic's done damage
- V's romantic partner will leave (Panam) or break up (Judy)
- Rogue dies in the assault on Arasaka Tower
The Star Ending
In The Star ending, V teams up with Panam and the Aldecaldos in order to assault Arasaka Tower. This ending changes based on whether you're playing as male or female V, as Panam will have a bigger role in the final cutscene if she's your romantic partner (only an option if you're male).
How to unlock The Star ending
Follow these steps to unlock The Star ending:
- Complete Panam's series of side quests
- During the main mission Nocturne Op55N1, after you've met with Hanako, head out onto the balcony with Misty, and talk to Johnny
- Choose to call Panam
- Ask Panam for help
- Take the Omega Blockers to lock this choice in
- Complete the mission We Gotta Live Together
- Complete the mission Forward to Death
- Complete the mission Belly of the Beast
- Complete the mission Changes; choose to return to V's body and have Johnny go with Alt
- Complete the mission All Along the Watchtower
The Star ending consequences
V and the Aldecaldos pull off a successful assault on Arasaka Tower, and upload Alt to the corporation's mainframe. V and Johnny are separated, but seemingly irreversible damage has been done to V's body thanks to the Relic. In any case, V returns to Night City and then leaves it all behind, choosing a Nomad's life with Panam and her clan.
The Star ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- V lives on in hope of finding a cure, together with Panam and the Aldecaldos
- V leaves all the pain of Night City behind and enjoys a fresh start
- The Aldecaldos pull off their biggest ever job, claiming advanced Arasaka tech in the process
- Johnny gets to be with Alt again — albeit in cyberspace
The Bad
- V may only have months left to live
- Numerous Aledecaldo members die in the assault, including Saul
- V leaves all of his friends and allies in Night City behind
Temperance Ending
In the Temperance ending, V lets Johnny take their body after a successful assault on Arasaka Tower. V joins with Alt in cyberspace, and Johnny is essentially reborn in the physical world.
How to unlock the Temperance ending
Follow these steps to unlock the Temperance ending:
- Follow through on either The Sun or The Star endings, as detailed above
- During the mission Changes, choose to stay with Alt, and let Johnny have your body
- Complete the mission New Dawn Fades
Temperance ending consequences
Following a successful assault on Arasaka Tower — either as Johnny with the help of Rogue or as V with the help of the Aldecaldos — Alt is uploaded to the corporation's mainframe and as promised, she separates V from Johnny. However, the damage to V's body is seemingly irreversible, and V is told that they have roughly six months to live. With this information in hand, V decides to give their body to Johnny's consciousness. This would allow Johnny to live a normal life — albeit in V's body — since the body itself is now much more attuned to Silverhand's mind than V's. Johnny accepts the offer and leaves Night City in search of new adventures, while V's consciousness joins Alt in her journeys through cyberspace.
The Temperance ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- Johnny gets to return to the physical world and live a relatively normal life in V's body
- V joins Alt on a cyberspace journey never experienced by humankind
The Bad
- Johnny cuts ties with V's friends, some of whom believe Johnny stole V's body
- Johnny's dialogue in cyberspace suggests that this isn't the outcome that he wanted for V
Suicide Ending
In this ending, V commits suicide, choosing not to involve those they care about in what could be an unwinnable situation.
How to unlock the Suicide ending
Follow these steps to unlock the Suicide ending:
- During the main mission Nocturne Op55N1, after you've met with Hanako, head out onto the balcony with Misty, and talk to Johnny
- Select the dialogue choice "Could also just put all this to rest."
- Select the dialogue choice ""[Toss Pills] I know exactly what we're going to do."
Suicide ending consequences
After conversing with Johnny and feeling like they've exhausted their options, V chooses to end their own life with a bullet, leaving everything behind but going out on their own terms.
The Suicide ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- After all the pain of their journey, V is finally at peace
- Johnny respects V's decision
The Bad
- V's friends are devastated by the news of their death
- Some of V's friends resent the fact that V didn't ask them for help instead
Secret Ending
In the Secret ending, V and Johnny decide to assault Arasaka Tower alone, calling upon no allies in what could be considered a suicide mission. This difficult path results in either The Sun ending, or the Temperance ending, depending on V's choices.
How to unlock the Secret ending
Follow these steps to unlock the Secret ending:
- Complete Rogue's series of side quests
- In Rogue's Chippin' In side quest, when talking to Johnny at the oil fields, you need to select the right dialogue options in order to unlock the Secret ending
- Select the following dialogue options to ensure the Secret ending is unlocked: "Nah, fucked that up too", "What do you want from me?", "Ok. But as second chances go, this is your last".
- During the main mission Nocturne Op55N1, after you've met with Hanako, head out onto the balcony with Misty, and talk to Johnny
- Choose one of the three dialogue options — siding with Arasaka, going with Rogue, or calling Panam — and then choose to think it over (the blue choice at the bottom)
- Simply sit in silence and wait instead of selecting a dialogue option
- As long as you chose the correct dialogue options during your conversation with Johnny at the oil fields, Johnny will break the silence after several minutes, and suggests that you assault Arasaka Tower alone
- Agree with Johnny
- Complete the mission (Don't Fear) The Reaper without dying — if you're killed during the mission, you'll cut to the credits and V's friends will be saddened and disappointed by the fact that V didn't ask for help
- Complete the mission Changes; go back to V's body to follow The Sun ending, or let Johnny take V's body to follow the Temperance ending
Secret ending consequences
After deciding not to involve anyone else, V and Johnny successfully assault Arasaka Tower, uploading Alt to the mainframe and bringing the corporation to its knees. V becomes a Night City legend if they choose to return to their body, or Johnny gets to live a relatively normal life if he's allowed to take V's body.
The consequences of the Secret ending are the same as the consequences for The Sun and Temperance endings, depending on your choice of who gets to keep V's body. It's worth noting that Rogue lives in this version The Sun ending, as she doesn't join V and Johnny in the assault.
Phantom Liberty Ending
This ending is only unlocked through completing the Phantom Liberty expansion. It is not tied to the main game's endings, and can be triggered at any time after finishing the DLC's story.
In this ending, the Relic is successfully removed from V's head by the NUSA's top surgeons.
How to unlock the Phantom Liberty ending
Follow these steps to unlock the Phantom Liberty ending:
- Complete Phantom Liberty's main missions
- In the main mission I've Seen That Face Before, follow Reed's plan instead of trusting Songbird
- Or, if you decide to help Songbird during that same quest, do not kill Reed during Killing Moon, and meet with him later in the story
- Complete the main mission Who Wants to Live Forever — note that completing this mission locks you into the Phantom Liberty ending and you'll no longer be able to continue the main story of the base game unless you reload
- Complete the mission Things Done Changed
Phantom Liberty ending consequences
In assisting Reed with his mission, V is given the opportunity to leave Night City and undergo surgery to remove the Relic once and for all. The operation is a success, and V awakes in an NUSA hospital for field agents. V leaves the hospital and returns to Night City, where they go on to live a normal life.
The Phantom Liberty ending has the following consequences for V:
The Good
- V survives and gets to live as a normal person, with no lasting damage from the Relic
- V earns Reed's admiration
The Bad
- V's body can no longer handle combat cyberware — the life they knew as a merc is over
- V spends two years in a coma, and their friends have all moved on
- V becomes just another nobody in Night City
- Johnny objects to the path V takes, and is removed pretty much against his will
