Spoiler warning: Some of the screenshots in this guide may contain spoilers with regards to weapons that can only be found near the end of the game. Please use caution.
Tales of Arise Weapons - What You Need to Know
Weapons are the most important pieces of equipment in Tales of Arise. They increase both your physical and elemental damage, as well as your penetration (which allows you to 'break' enemies easier). Fortunately, they're easy to obtain (for the most part). Each party member has their weapon type.
Weapon Crafting
The vast majority of weapons in Tales of Arise need to be crafted. But don't worry — crafting a new weapon is easy. All you need to do is head to the nearest merchant (out in the field) or blacksmith (in towns or cities), and exchange monster materials and a bit of money for your new weapon.
Finding monster materials is straightforward. Materials are dropped by enemies at the end of battles, and it's very easy to stock up on what you need. As long as you fight every monster you come across, you should have enough materials for your next weapon upgrade. If not, you can always go back out into the wilds and fight the necessary monsters again.
A quick tip: the enemy records found in the field guide menu tells you which materials are dropped by which enemies. You can use this as a reference whenever you're looking for specific materials.
Weapon Skins
In Tales of Arise, you can customise how your weapon looks. In the outfits menu, you can equip any weapon that you've discovered as a 'skin'. This means that you can alter your current weapon's appearance without having to worry about changing its stats.
If you want to further customise your characters, be sure to check out the following guide:
Tip: Don't Sell Your Old Weapons
You might be tempted to sell your old weapons whenever you make something new — but we'd advise against it. Later on, some old weapons become necessary crafting components for new weapons. If you've sold the old weapon that you need, then you'll need to go back and craft it again.
