Considering the strides that it’s made to appease gamers in other areas, you didn’t think that Sony was going to go and region lock the PlayStation 4, did you? Good, because it’s not. Writing on Twitter overnight, a nonchalant Shuhei Yoshida revealed that the next generation console will be “region free”.
However, it’s unclear if the platform will be territory agnostic in the same way as the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation Vita. Both of the existing systems allow you to play physical releases from any region, but the handheld forces you to stick to a single territory for digital purchases. We're sure that Sony will clarify this over the coming weeks. Here's hoping that it adopts the PS3's format.

The PS4 start-up music should be the 2001 obelisk music.
I wonder if they'll keep it region free enough so I can use the UK PSN from the US? I get a lot of demos a week early that way.
The news just keeps getting better today....
Perfect. Now when Japan gets a game that I really want - like Jump Stars Victory Vs - I can just go to Amazon and import it. Sure it'll cost more, but it would no doubt be worth it.
this is the best news for me...i imported many games
No, the handheld forces you to stick to a single PSN account per memory card. You can still get an out-of-region PSN account on a DIFFERENT memory card no problem. It's not ideal because you can't play those games on your main PSN account, but still...
Wow the PS4 just keeps getting better and better.
I just hope it's fully Region Free AKA you can use US DLC on your EU account
