Surprise, surprise: the PlayStation 4 is sweeping aside the Xbox One and Wii U in France according to newly released sales data from French publication LeFigaro. As we reported earlier, Sony's latest console is also dominating the market in Germany, so it's safe to say that the Japanese company appears to still have an iron grip on some of Europe's most important territories.
The data also reveals that the PS4 sold through one million units in France in 2015, beating out the competition by around 700,000 sales apiece. It's also worth mentioning that the Xbox One sales saw a 3 per cent increase year over year, while the PS4 saw a 20 per cent jump. In other words, the gap between the two consoles is actually growing wider. There's just no stopping this train.

I still feel this ALL goes back to when they first announced the X1. All that "You have to be online 24/7! You have to have a Kinect!" nonsense that they eventually back peddled on (because it was stupid). That put a bad taste in my mouth which is why I jumped to PS. I think Playstation has made good-ish moves from day 1 by being more focused on the gamer and less on the "all-in-one" pizazz.
@JMillsDezign
XONE is also pretty much 100% relegated to western games as far as I'm aware. And with that in mind I have no interest in that thing, japanese games are what I bought my PS4 for.
Even though they have done a complete 180, and are offering a lot of great stuff, initial impressions are generally the most lasting impression. And it has hurt their image in the eyes of the consumer.
Microsoft need to employ Denzel Washington.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi It's okay, they've got Zlatan:
Well...Playstation has always dominated in Europe, so no surprise.
Crazy. Playstation 4 is just in a league of its own. It's the PS2/Xbox/GCN generation all over again.
It'll be really interesting to see how PS VR does. I think it has more of a chance than Oculus Rift, at least.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I don't think my wallet could say "no" to Denzel O_o
I knew Germany had become a bigger market for console gaming than the UK, but what I didn't know is how relatively little consoles are being sold in France.
Yeah Microsoft did score an own goal with always on/DRM. But I did agree with what they were trying to do and would have been happy to see it on the Sony system.
Once your ahead you will always be selling more and more. You are not going to be buying a dfferent system from a majority of the people you game with.

@get2sammyb Looks like a ds4 in dudes hand lol.
Denzel stops trains.
Again not really surprising. As somebody posted in the thread about sales in Germany, the truth is that Xbox has never had a huge following outside of North America and the UK. And unlike last gen when MS played it very smart in NA, it dropped the ball big time this gen. I expected Sony to do better this time and keep things from being a run away but I didn't expect it'd ever be ahead in the NA again either. The Xbox brand was very strong here but the dumba$$es in suits got too over confident, much like Sony back in 2006, and we're seeing again where being smug gets you in this industry. MS has bent over backwards to fix things the last couple years but it would've been much better had the Xbox One not made such a horrendous first impression.

As somebody who is more of a PS fan than anything else, but also somebody who has very little interest in VR, I have to say looking at the current lineups for both, I'd choose Oculus Rift. Unless Sony is to move all its big guns over to PS VR, which means absolutely no way to play stuff like Uncharted or God of War unless you have the headset (which would also be a huge mistake), my money would be on Oculus if I were a betting man.
Funny how Nintendo and Microsoft dropped the ball so badly this gen. At the same time, Sony did a lot of things right with the PS4.
The Xbox is only relevant in the US and the UK, making up 75% of it's install base (13.6 million out of 18 million).
The Xbox One, assuming it has a 5 year cycle and continues at the pace it's at now, will hit around 40 million lifetime. Massive decline from that of the Xbox 360. Of course, it won't continue at the same pace at all, and will slow down. So about 35 million - not much better than the Nintendo 64.
So overall, I'd say the Xbox One is doing poorly, and the future of the Xbox brand is uncertain, especially with the massive decline their flagship franchise has seen.
I should point out that the Wii U has still sold more LTD than the Xbox One in both France and Germany.
On a side note, Splatoon has sold 300k in France alone, and was the 4th best selling game of 2015 in that country, which is excellent!
and in japan system sales this week were:
3DS - 42,372
PS4 - 25,592
PSV - 18,202
WIU - 15,398
PS3 - 1,938
XB1 - 99
Not a FanBoy, but thats pretty bad, they better off just pulling out of japan
@Gamer83 Hmm, fair enough. I personally think that PS VR only needing a PS4 to work will be its biggest selling-point - as well as its (likely) cheaper price. Still, all that means nothing of they don't properly support the thing.
@Sunnyviji At this point the Xbox One sales start with "excellent" in the US, to "pretty good" in the UK, then "ehhh" in France and Germany, and then from there it's gets continually poorer until you get to "why do they even bother" Japan.
I understand why Xbox tries in Japan, for luring Japanese developers into creating games for the One. Like ScaleDragon, or whatever is. At this point though that is just sad. 99 units, wow. I wonder what the all time low has been since the one released in japan?
@JMillsDezign Agreed. Sony really have Microsoft to thank for much of their success this gen.
@SonyInfinity Yeah 99 units is so bad but I think you're right about them trying to lure Japanese developers. That doesn't really seem to be working particularly well either.
I bet MS hate the fact that Media Create announce sales figures publicly seeing as these days they seem to prefer telling us how many hours we spend on live and pointless stats like that.
Either way regardless of MS screw up's Sony have done a great job in providing the player's with what they wanted and to be fair they've not put a foot wrong really when everybody else floundered, well done Sony and bring on the PSVR (even though I don't think it's going to do as well as people hope) and an alternative official controler would be nice (wired would be even nicer!).
@Kage_88
Yeah, as always software is the key. The question is will Sony be willing to sacrifice the PS4 to some degree to support PSVR? To me, this is why add-ons are never a great idea. But if Sony wants this thing to take off it's going to need a selling point. That means stuff like God of War IV ONLY playable if you have the headset. If Sony goes down that route, I'm going to be extremely p*ssed as a day one adopter of PS4 but this is also the risk you run of purchasing a console before it's on the market for 4 years, give or take.
@Gamer83 Reviving a long-dormant IP for PS VR would be ace. Imagine a new Medieval or Jak game - that'll garner some attention
I don't have numbers about the situation here in Italy, but this picture, posted by a friend of mine who owns an indie gaming shop to advertise Fallout 4 can give you an idea...

@Kage_88 On VR? That's not reviving, it would be killing it dead on arrival.
@Kage_88
Jak & Daxter, in the more traditional platforming style of the original as opposed to the mash-up of genres that were 2 and 3, would be intriguing. I have no interest in VR myself but I could see that being a potential hit. Syphon Filter is another one that could potentially draw a lot of interest and is in a genre that suits VR very well.
@Gamer83 wait, who is more of a PS fan than anybody else, are you meaning, you? Unless you have changed from the last times I've read your posts on here, ummmm no.
Also, they don't have to sacrifice support of the PS4 to show support for VR. I don't understand where you're coming up with this rubbish.
@Bigdoggy
I game on PS more than anything else, just because I don't share your viewpoint doesn't mean I'm not a PS fan. And that's the last I'm going to bother with you. Don't like my comments, don't read them.
