There's no sign of a new Twisted Metal just yet, but classic PSone car combat property Carmageddon: Max Damage is on a crash course with the PlayStation 4. The game will feature over 30 vehicles and 10 environments when it launches in mid-2016, and promises to be as controversial as ever, tasking you with mowing down people on mobility scooters and more. Edgy.
The title will feature a single player career mode as well as four online event types. There'll also be an Action Replay option, which will allow you to manually place cameras in order to capture your, er, carnage from as many angles as possible. This is likely to prove an acquired taste, but you'll definitely find this author playing in the road when it rolls out.

Uhm, not sure what to make of this...?
This was mentioned a long time ago and I had all but forgotten its existence... Still not sure about it but will wait and see.
Having now watched the video, I don't think I will buy. Visually its not up to the standards I would expect on last gen, let alone this! I know it caused controversy when it launched but compared to the likes of Mortal Kombat and Doom on this gen, the visuals of the carnage are poor. Its not just that though but the environments are severely lacking too.
Looks quite fun. A full retail release?
@BAMozzy To be fair, I imagine they're prioritising frame rate and destruction for this.
@get2sammyb In fairness, you could be right. However with just this video to go on, I am not that impressed with the destruction - its impossible to tell the frame rate and how it plays of course and I have never based my decision to buy purely on a video.
Compared to Dead Rising 3 and even the Dying Light: The Following, 2 games that feature vehicles and the ability to run over 'humanoids' - in this case Zombies, Both look a lot better and more densely packed. Building destruction also looks a lot better in other games (including those on last gen) and as for vehicular destruction, Burnout (for example) looks more impressive. Admittedly these are at 30fps but visually they look better and considering some of these are last gen too, I can't help but feel underwhelmed by this - even the screeshots look poor and last gen - certainly not up to the standards we have come to expect from Gen 8. I guess if they sell it at 'budget/indie' price, that could be more forgiveable but compared to AAA titles, the video (which is so far all I have to base my opinion on) is very underwhelming.
As I said, I don't base my decision purely on a video. It could be that the game plays very well, has a good campaign and a lot of fun. It could have a lot better and more densely packed environments to the bland ones shown and the destruction a lot impressive with a solid, smooth 60fps frame rate that all adds up to make this worthy of a purchase. Time will tell.
Played Carmageddon 1, 2 and 3 on pc. Version 3 had the best graphic, 2 was the most fun, but 1 with the farm animals defecating just before you mowed them down (good times good times). I know its sick but man it sure was fun smashing all of the cars and speeding through multilevel buildings and watching the carnage in slow motion after pulling off an awesome stunt. Hardware: Rivals is close, just add pedestrians and a larger map. I hope they have a demo?
I've played number 1 and it was fun so i might get dis but I'll just wait for the new one comming
