As rumoured, there will be no "exclusive" games for the supercharged PlayStation 4K; all PS4 games will continue to run on the existing model. Group president Andrew House reassured fans in a Financial Times article today, confirming the existence of the upgraded console. "All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4," he said.
Of course, this may not allay concerns that games will run "poorly" on the original unit when optimised for the enhanced device, but the manufacturer has confirmed that the new console will be sold alongside the existing model throughout the lifecycle of the product, suggesting that the platform holder still sees the original unit as important. This should be reassuring to those not looking to upgrade.
The question, then, is: who is the new model for? Sony says that it will target "hardcore gamers" and those with 4K televisions looking for high resolution content.

"we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4,"
What does this mean? Will there be PS4 games that won't work on Neo?
@Mahe No, all PS4 games will run on PS4K. A "very large majority of games" will be enhanced on PS4K.
Interesting to see where it goes, though CBA to buy a 4K after the N3DS ended up being a waste of cash. I take it you folks will be at least checking the performance on both systems when you do reviews?
So will Bethesda Games will actually run on PS4K?
@PlaytendoGuy Don't count on it.
@Cassetticons It's something we're going to have to figure out. More likely is that we'll display which "format" we reviewed on.
This what Nintendo should hae done with their New 3DS rather then alienate their customers who didn't want to upgrade or couldn't for financial reasons their original 3DS.
@get2sammyb If you do that, one of the first questions you are bound to get in the comments section will be: how does it run on 'old' PS4? Every single time.
@finalstan Have you played PS4 games? Do you know how they run? Why will the PS4 Neo suddenly make the PS4 run games 'badly'? Some games I bet will look better on the Neo and I bet some games may opt for a higher frame rate. Games that are already 'struggling' to maintain 1080/30 without dropping either the frame rate or the resolution, will still have this standard of issue although developers 'may' opt to drop down to 900p to get more stable or locked 30fps frame rates - they may not be so concerned with trying to hit 1080p at the expense of frame rates meaning that games could actually run better in the future - less emphasis on resolution and more emphasis on frame rates - the Neo can deliver the 1080p(+) visuals. On some games, I would imagine the developers will opt to use that extra power to deliver a higher frame rate - 60fps as opposed to 30fps. So obviously these will look and feel smoother but was Uncharted 4, DS3, Division, etc 'bad' to play?
Uncharted 4 set a 'standard' for PS4 gaming and I would be surprised if that 'standard' dropped. I can see resolution dropping (for example) but NOT in games that match that in terms of size/scale, lighting, physics, etc..
@BAMozzy All you need is one documented example of a game running differently on both formats for questions such as that one to be asked of other games. Precisely because gamers (e.g. those who will be looking for reasons to justify the expense) won't know what the differences are as this could potentially play out in a number of different ways. Install base is high, so percentage of those wanting to know will also be high, I imagine.
You read a bit too much into my comment BTW, but that's ok.
@Tasuki
To be fair, the only thing really annoying is that SNES VC games are N3DS exclusive when obviously the base system could handle those. Other than that the New 3DS hasn't changed much.
"Bla, bla ,bla,bla" is all i hear until there are facts. Will there be only one copy in one package that contains both versions? Can any old PS4 disc work in the Neo? Will older games benefit from the more powerfull Neo like Fallout 4 having 60fps or even just smooth 30fps in Far Harbor fog or any other PS4 games that have issues with maintaining 30fps.
Then there is the frame rates, resolution, and possible game content differences between old PS4 and Neo. The idea off less than 1080p to maintain 30 fps on old PS4 is one thing while a new release having frame rate issues on the old but not the new PS4 is another thing.
How about content and remasters? Will R* drop Gta 5 updates for old PS4 like they did with the PS3? Will we have PS4 Neo remasters of current PS4 games?
Will the Neo come with a small 500GB hdd? Also will the Neo have any upgrades from the current PS4 other than just more power?
If I get a 4k TV. I'll upgrade. Otherwise I'm fine with HD, hell I was fine with SD when I played ps1-2.
