It's finally here, folks – the PlayStation 4K Neo will be officially unveiled on 7th September at a PlayStation Meeting in New York. Sound familiar? This is all playing out very similarly to the original PS4 reveal, isn't it?
Members of the press have been receiving their invites to the event today, where Sony will “share details about the PlayStation business". This, of course, means the reveal of the Neo itself and the details surrounding it. We hope to at least get a look at the new system, find out how much money we'll have to fork out for it, discover when we'll be able to buy it, and finally get a look at some of the games that will take advantage of the improved hardware.
The event will take place at 15:00PM ET (20:00PM BST), and we'll have coverage of everything that is announced following the show. Will you be tuning in to the PlayStation Meeting? Hype yourselves up for the PS4K Neo in the comments below.

Cool, will be getting one of these providing it ticks a few boxes for me!
That's my week off cancelled, then. FML.
Really curious, especially about marginal things like its design, eventual bundles with games supporting the new res, colour variation...
I wonder if this event doubles as what would normally be Sony's European conference too?
"You know that PS VR you lot have just bought? This will make it work."
PS4 Croissant, It only does fog!
Cool - can't wait!!
@get2sammyb Can I take your holiday instead? Cheers.
I like to take a moment to let it sink in how good my prediction was in the comments section of the article the weekend.
@Draythedestroyer Custard Cream coming your way.
Neo will release on October 13 same day as PS VR you heard it here first
@get2sammyb
Worth delaying your holiday though Sammy👍👍
More than 2X the power! This is gonna be awesome!!!
"Officially" is a bit of a stretch.
@madrox1030 You're right, this is going to be Vita 2.
lets see how they spin this mess...
@IceClimbers I'm expecting to see that again when Nintendo decides to come down from it's mountaintop of seclusion, please don't let me down.
Will it be lived stream on my PS3 Event Viewer. (Sorry, had to get in my daily allotment of PS3 mentions somehow.)
Seriously though, will it be live streamed?
"PlayStation Meeting"
For the love of all things gaming, I hope they didn't let the person who named the press conference name the new PS4. I wouldn't want it to be called "New PS4".
@get2sammyb No vacation for you.
@rjejr hopefully Dreamcast 2
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Well Dreamcast 2 would be better than New Dreamcast. I'd buy a new Dreamcast for Skies of Arcadia 2 and Sega Marine Fishing HD.
@JaxonH You planning on buying 1 of these or you finally max out the credit cards? I think I need to buy 1 just to justify my 2 year wait. Black Friday or bust.
@rjejr pfft. @JaxonH didn't even get the XBox One S (to be fair I'm still contemplating) also, we must remember he's Daddy Warbucks, and Best Buy Special Ambassador. What does he know of "maxed out credit cards?"
The great part of the Neo news? The NX announcement can't be too far behind. No more worrying about who's going to announce what first (not that there was much worrying in the first place)
@rjejr
I do buy on credit but only to take advantage of the 6% back. Everything I buy I have the money for and pay off the bill right away. Always payment in full- I refuse to pay interest for loaned money. If I can't afford it I won't buy it.
I'm really not feelin the Neo man- if they're gonna crank out $400 consoles every 3 years that's gonna turn into a really expensive upgrade habit. I really, REALLY wanted the X1S but, the 2TB was $400 and nah, not for a minuscule upgrade. I am ordering me one of those custom controllers from the Xbox Lab though.
As for Neo, if it turns out VR really needs it (and I think it will but they just don't wanna say it before VR launches) I may consider upgrading. But personally I really don't want to spend that much money on an upgrade unless they give me an HDD larger than 2TB or external HDD support. My PS4 is already maxed at 2TB. I've had to delete 400gb of games already- it's just ridiculous. Everyone else supports unlimited external storage- Wii U has a 256gb SD card and a 500gb HDD. 3DS has a 200gb microSD, and X1 has a 500gb HDD (but I need to upgrade that to 2TB soon- 2 should suffice since it's an exclusive only box).
So ya, that's where I stand. My brother was all hyped up over Neo thinking it's gonna do 4K gaming and all this jazz. Told him he's asking for disappointment. May output 4K Netflix and bluray but no way are games gonna run in 2160p and maintain 60fps. At best we'd see 30 with dips into the teens, but I guess that's already become acceptable to gamers so what do I know.
@Sir_JBizzle
"Maxed out credit cards"
Daddy Warbucks' piggy bank never runs dry.

@JaxonH Since you're a good natured guy at heart, I thought you might get a new PS4 if you had a nephew or cousin to give your old one too, I figured your brother had a PS4 or would need to get one for FFXV. He can't not get FFXV, he's too much like me I think.
I don't get the 2TB S1 myself. Well It kind of makes sense, I guess, sell the 500GB for $249 for cheapskates like me while early adopters and serious gamers get the 2TB for $399, but what I don't get is the need for 1TB for $349 between the new $299 500GB. I do think Sony is happy about the $399 2TB, lets them make the new PS4 be $399 w/o looking too expensive.
I hope the new PS4 isn't only 2TB, wold probably put it out of my price range, I was hoping for 1GB and $399, old 1 drops to $299, that would probably be enough for me.
You get a 4k TV yet? I'll probably have to look into 1 depending on how this whole Neo thing goes. 4k X1S, 4k PS4, perfect time for Nitnedo to announce it's 720p handheld. Poor Nintendo, even when they catch up they get left behind. They should avoid 4k though, it's still in it's infancy, and focus on getting games out the door on time. 4k can wait until NX2. But you know how the fanbois get, and what the perception will be.
@kyleforrester87 sega genesis still the best name ever.and New York best city ever I live there
Hype!! I want to play no man sky and replay uncharted 4 in 60 fps
It's either ps4 neo or ps vr for me this year.
@rjejr
Oh of course. All the rabid Nintendo fans care more about their image and people's perception of them based on the console they own, so they're foaming at the mouth for equivalent power so they can have ammo against Sony and MS gamers.
What they should care about is functionality and games, not fanboy war pissing contests. And if NX is truly a hybrid then PS4 power is not in the cards, simply by virtue of being portable. Still, even Wii U level power on a portable device should be mind blowing for most. I know it will be for me- even the Vita blew me away as a portable gaming device and it's nothing more than a beefed up PS2. The nice resolution helped a lot of course.
I'm still using my 42" Vizio HDTV from 2009. Way I see it is same way I see my car. I bought it, it's paid for, it works well... I see no reason to blow money on a new one until it stops working. And when that day finally comes, I'll buy a 4K TV (if it hasn't advanced beyond that by then).
@rjejr Oh I'll be there. Hopefully they decide to come down from the mountain soon.
In the mean time, I'm going to play Gravity Rush Remastered and finish replaying ALttP.
PlayStation Neo, the only PlayStation console where Bethesda games play at a steady frame rate.
@playstation1995 lmao points for persistence but, no, mega drive all the way.
@JaxonH @rjejr I see no reason to buy a 2TB XB1s unless you are adverse to having an External HDD sat next to your console. I have a 500GB XB1 and plugged in a 5TB external - all my games are on that. If I did buy a XB1s, I can just unplug my external and plug that into my XB1s and play straight away. The difference in price between the 500GB and 2TB models is roughly what I paid for my External. I am most likely going to skip the XB1s as it doesn't add anything to games. My 4k TV handles the upscaling anyway so I have been playing the same visual level of games this manages.
The Neo though can manage 4k 60fps. Its very unlikely that we will see a AAA game, especially a 'new' one manage to hit that kind of performance but its entirely possible the Neo could deliver the first 'native' 4k console game. Even if the specs the same as rumoured. Just because the console has a 2.2x better GPU doesn't mean that you will get just a 2.2x increase in performance from it, its new architecture and better efficiency could boost performance more significantly. Sony have allocated more RAM (an extra 512MB) than the base PS4 and a higher transfer rate too - a long with the 30% boost to the CPU - that could certainly see a game hit native 4k/60 Maybe a remaster or an indie game. It would probably be a PR exercise to a degree though - to take away some of the Scorpio's 'Thunder' (for want of a better word). PS4 Neo - the first 4k 'gaming' console...
As someone with a 4k TV, I am already playing games upscaled from 1080p to 4k. Even games that are below 1080p are upscaled to this by the console. All an XB1s does is upscale it to 4k - just like my TV. The Neo will do the same - whether its 1080p or 1800p natively. I can tell you that games like Uncharted 4 still look amazing upscaled! I can clearly see the difference between 900p and 1080p though - whether that's because of upscaling or just because it has a lot less info, I don't know.
Anyway, I of course would prefer a console to deliver native 4k at 60fps in AAA games with all the visual bells and whistles. I would prefer 1440/60 to 4k/30 and much prefer 1080/60 with all the visual enhancements to 1440/4k with these turned down to 'normal' console levels.
Hopefully developers will have the freedom to decide how best to utilise the extra power of the Neo. I hope they are not 'forced' to push for resolution - I know they can't drop the frame rate but I would still prefer games to hit a locked 60fps at 1080p with a much of the visual enhancements at max as possible before even considering upping the resolution if there is any power left to do so...
only a rumour tho ! do not get your hopes up
My cash is waiting for this baby! Please launch in white again Sony!!!
@IceClimbers "Oh I'll be there."
Yeah, I noticed you were there a lot already this morning, right near the top of the comments. Every time I saw it I thought "He's ready." Gotta be soon.
@JaxonH Funny, we got our HD TV in 2009 as well. It was in Jan b/c we got a PS3 for Christmas 2008 and while the old TV worked great for the Wii I wanted HD for the PS3. But if you aren't getting a new 4k TV for PS4K I'll never talk my wife into 1. My only chance is if they bundle a 4k disc copy of Kingsglaive in a FFXV bundle, she's waiting for 15 more than I am I think.
@BAMozzy As someone who had his external HDD go up in a poof of electrical fire smelly smoke while attached to my Wii U, I'd much rather have an internal HDD. I bought a new enclosure and the HDD was fine thankfully, but the fan was so loud in the new enclosure - probably to keep it from bursting into flames. And when I got sick of bad WiFi I bought a 2nd router/hub, ran a cable to that form the original WiFi router to plug all of my apliances into. Only I was out of sockets, so I unplugged the external HDD on my Wii U and bought a 64GB thumbdrive instead.
So, been there done that w/ the external HDD. I'm hoping for a 1TB PS4K, and an SD card slot in the NX.
With thoughts (and only thoughts) that certain complex VR games may only work at their best on the PS4K (in my case Ace Combat 7) I'll be looking at this to see whether it'll be worth diving into the PS4 with this souped up model.
@get2sammyb it can be anything and yes even the Neo. But something cannot be called "official" until it is official. Sony disclosed that they are having a meeting. That is all that is OFFICIAL. Those are the only current facts. So again.. bit of a stretch.
