You can use PlayStation VR's spiffy Cinematic Mode to enjoy non-virtual reality PlayStation 4 games using your expensive new purchase – but did you know that it also works with a PC, Xbox One, or Wii U? The setup itself is simple: replace the HDMI cord coming out of your PS4 and into the Processing Unit with your console or computer of choice; you'll still need to be connected to Sony's system via USB, however. This is because the Processing Unit requires a specific handshake from the PS4 in order to operate properly.
So, what can you do with a competing console? Well, you get the simulated cinema screen, which operates using the accelerometers in the headset, so you don't necessarily need to be facing the PlayStation Camera. As we pointed out in a previous article, the Cinematic Mode isn't particularly great due to the low-resolution screen used in PlayStation VR, but we suppose that this "feature" is a nice thing to have if you're ever in need of a personal display for your other platforms.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi PSTV will work because it's got an HDMI output, so you should be gravy!
Can't wait to use it with my NES Mini Classic.
@rjejr
@rjejr Haha, that actually sounds pretty fun!
@get2sammyb I am glad you added that part about being USB'd to the PS4, they left that part out of the NL article and there are about 75 comments from people thinking of different uses for this, none of them mentioning the PS4. It is interesting though, interesting in that nobody talked about it before launch. It's basically a makeshift TV replacement for almost any TV need, HDMI out is fairly ubiquitous these days.
I see what Sammy meant with the low res display.
I think we just need a console with more power to truly get the proper VR experience. Maybe the PRO is the answer, or next gen at worst, but ya if they can sort the low res and get VR to look close to PS4 on TV, we'll be in virtual paradise,
Neat
