Resident Evil has been a little lost for a while now. While there have been decent entries like Resident Evil Revelations 2, the main series has been on a sharp decline since Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 7 simply had to try something different, then, and while this gameplay footage captured by Eurogamer.net from a recent press junket may be unrecognisable from more recent entries, we're taking that as good thing.
Even more promising is the commentary from video editor Aoife Wilson after five hours of hands-on time. She notes that the game still feels distinctly Resident Evil despite the sweeping changes to the format, and more importantly, she iterates on multiple occasions that the game's actually scary this time.

The Dobies crashing through the windows in Resi 1 was scarey.
Every avenue cliche has been seen before its just revamped by better graphics.
No, Just no. This would scare the bejeziz out of me and I would just give it away to a stranger in a street far away from my house or put on a pair of surgical gloves and throw it out of the window while driving along a desolate road in Scotland so there's no hope of it ever finding it's way back.
Looks good dunnit. Maybe one to wait till I got a PSVR though. Then sell because it's too much for me to handle.
I love me some good 'ol horror but this, in VR, ummmmmm lol. I have pre-ordered it and can't wait to play it. Horror and VR just fit, like a gloved finger from a proctologyst. Yes, it "fits", but it doesn't stop it from scaring a bloke hahaha
I really don't like the focus on this gross hillbilly family. Feels like RE meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre to me.
I was initially on the fence about this, but all the trailers and small teasers they've released since the announcement have got me on board. Maybe this will be my first VR game.
Very nice, would still like them to add aiming
Someone go to capcom with the first 3 games and scream "see these do this" in peoples faces until they get it right.
Oh, and just out of curiosity, how the frick do you pronounce Aoife? lol
@blakey78 Eev-fah. Us irish love an awkard name
@SuperSilverback I like it, it's original. I'm a welshy myself. I did, however, name my daughter Shannon
Is this going to be the game that will finally terrify me in my adult years? I swear I think I'm truly messed up in the head or something; I have been searching for a game, movie, or anything to scare or otherwise shock me and I can't find anything. At any rate I think the game looks fun at least. Hopefully it has multiple tools for dispatching enemies like Alien Isolation did. I never got tired of luring the alien into a group of enemies and watching the chaos! Until of course I finished the game; the first hour or so of that game was incredibly boring for me...
Maybe I need to stop making jokes to myself. That might be it... With my personality I just immediately diffuse any tension I might feel with a funny moment, meme, relevant anecdote, entandre, or insult...
Anyone have any recommendations or advice for someone that feels like they're missing out on a key part of the horror genre?
@blakey78 I named my character that in FF XIV.
Aoife Scathach or Eev-fah (like SuperSilverback said) Skaa-tah (I think that's how you pronounce that). Aoife is a really really old name that I only knew how to pronounce because I studied the folk tales of Cu Chalainn. I love that name though. I think it's super cool.
A Resident Evil without zombies?
Looks a little like P.T. at the beginning. Not a bad thing.
I don't mind the change in gameplay style, I do mind that it seems more Silent Hill than Resident Evil.
Looks cool but what's with the running speed?
Oh look, a maniac with a shovel is coming towards me, suppose I should just casually turn around a stroll away...
I enjoyed the demo, I put hours into it because I LOVE secrets and was interested in the story. But I didn't expect that to be the entire game with it's less than stellar gameplay and lack of combat.
The combat in this game looks TERRIBLE, it's like they wanted to go back to RE1 but make it worse for the new generation, give no sprint because we aren't afraid of death apparently. The camera looks awful- No, I don't care if this game will scare the crap out of me. I am NOT going to play 'Resident Evil' Outlast edition, it's sad, pathetic, and a rip off of another great game. Six was really bad, but this is the nail in the undead coffin.
Looks like the killer app for the PSVR
