In case you missed it, Mass Effect: Andromeda got its first proper gameplay trailer at The Game Awards last night. Showcasing combat, exploration, and dialogue, it's just what the doctor ordered when it comes to BioWare's latest sci-fi adventure, finally giving us a real glimpse of how the game plays.
However, the video hasn't been able to avoid criticism entirely. While fans seem to be generally very happy with how the project looks, many, including ourselves, have been quick to point out the typical BioWare jank. Specifically, the facial animations of the default female Ryder look undeniably rough - when she gets angry, you'd fear her face rather than her wrath.
Always hot off the mark over on Twitter, BioWare employees have been responding to complaints regarding said animations. The general gist of it is that until Andromeda ships early next year, the developer is going to be constantly polishing things up. In other words, the dodgy facial animations and lip syncing in the trailer aren't necessarily final. Here's hoping that's the case, eh?
What did you think of Andromeda's gameplay reveal? Do you have concerns, or does it look dandy? Jet off for the stars in the comments section below.

Did not look a the video no need to see anything about the game until I play it next year. If it was polished and perfect then the game would be releasing now. The game is 4 months away or longer so they will of course be working on it and patches for day one etc.
Another point not really relevant to the article why do they show any game footage for future games? Its an awards ceremony not an advert for up and coming games. There are enough events throughout the year to show off games. An award ceremoney should just be that. You do not get trailers for movies at the Oscars.
Why don't they ask the help of Naughty Dog.
I really don't see this game coming out in Spring. I'm expecting a July/Aug release date.
It's not just that they looked wonky in this game, but the fact that the animations in their previous games have always been wonky and people have pointed them out before. Rather than address it, they just gloss over it. It's like Bethesda's reluctance to hire a new animator
I'd be surprised if they weren't, they seem like typical BioWare quality.
@ShadowofSparta which games?
I loved Kotor and the original ME trilogy, but I'm not digging this at all from what's been shown.
I wonder if they'll have a co-op mode like ME3, hope so as it was quite good.
@banacheck There will be, already confirmed. There'll be a closed beta before release, too.
I love Mass Effect but they kind of dodged the question. Don't be surprised if facial animations remain the same at launch. They clearly need some outside assistance in that area.
@themcnoisy Loved both Kotors too. I remember a few occasions of odd animations in ME but the most I've noticed have been from the Dragon Age series
@ShadowofSparta I'm not a fan of DA, in fact I hated the last one. Thanks for replying bro, praying this game is good!
@themcnoisy I hated DA:I too but I am curious about the dlc. No worries. I want it to be good too but I've been disappointed too often by Bioware lately
@ShadowofSparta dlc for inquisition? I haven't played it but it was rated pretty poorly all around.
@ztpayne7 Might avoid hunting for the game of the year edition. Played it on ps3 and didn't like it. I wanted to give the goty a go and see if it was redeemable for me (and to scratch my completionist itch) but doesn't sound like it's worth it. Thanks for your feedback though
