Don't jump to any conclusions just yet, but it sounds like Mass Effect: Andromeda's multiplayer offering will reward you with stuff that you can use in the game's single-player campaign. At first glance, this seems absolutely fine; it's cool that the release rewards you no matter how you decide to play. However, fans of BioWare's sci-fi series have been quick to cast a cynical eye over this news.
The info comes from Ian Frazier, the game's lead designer. Answering a question on Twitter, Frazier states, "it's possible to earn [single-player] rewards in the process. (multiplayer doesn't impact single-player's story like in Mass Effect 3, though)". The last part we already knew, but as mentioned, there's a worry that those who play the multiplayer portion of the release will have an advantage during the story, thus kind-of-sort-of forcing you to play the co-op in order to maximise your squad's effectiveness.
We suppose it's a legitimate concern, but we reckon that one tweet isn't quite enough to justify pulling out the pitchforks. In this case, it's probably best to wait and see how it pans out - after all, we don't even know what the 'rewards' actually are. If Andromeda has some sort of loot system, for example, and you can get the same items and equipment from the multiplayer as you can from the single-player, then surely there's no real problem. Again, though, we'll see.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you worried that Andromeda's co-op will bleed into the single-player a little too much? Will you be giving it a go, or do you not care about multiplayer? Hug some cover in the comments section below.

As long as you don't have to play the multiplayer to succeed in the single player then it's not really an issue for me. If you do, I'll be sending a basket of poisoned muffins to Bioware.
DISCLAIMER: Under no circumstances will I actually be sending a basket of muffins, poisoned or otherwise, to Bioware.
I wouldn't be surprised if its unique Armour sets and maybe some slight variations on weapons - maybe not affecting the handling or damage output but more cosmetic variations - like a uniquely designed AR that looks and sounds different but its stats are identical to another AR that can be found in SP.
In Mass Effect 3, they had a number of Armour Sets - including one for just playing the demo of Kingdoms of Amular. However when ME3 launched, the armour looked great but really offered little benefit to wearing it over the armour you acquired. I wouldn't be surprised if the MP armour though just offers cosmetically different armour sets with similar bonuses to other armour. Maybe if you play the MP portion, you could get some of this armour before you reach the same point in the SP but I doubt it will be detrimental to the SP experience
At least that's how I hope they do it...
This is EA we are talking about. It's quite simple...get as many people playing multiplayer as possible. The more people playing multiplayer, more people tempted to open their paid for packs. Really quite simple to understand what they are trying to do here.
They dropped their online passes because they realised the more people who have access to the multiplayer part of their games, the more likely packs are going to get bought thus generating higher revenue.
They'll dress it up nice and fancy and make people think that it's all benign. But EA aren't stupid. Crooked as a politician for sure. But not stupid.
Hell, they put packs in Dead Space for heavens sake!
@General_Spiller The DS3 packs were hilarious. On my second playthrough I downloaded a trainer, maxed my components out, and gave EA the middle finger lol
The Multiplayer in ME3 was fun
Yes just what we've all been asking for nice one EA!
Hopefully they can put in an ultimate team style squad builder too, we all want that. And a proper music list from c list popstars from last year to accompany us through space. Come on EA because we've all been asking for that!
Yep, EA being EA.
I've started playing ME2 again, I was going to hold off waiting for the trilogy remasters but it looks like that ain't happening. It's starting to show its age but it's still a cracking game.
I don't see it being a problem. Nobody will be forced to do anything. I welcome being ushered to different parts of the game for rewards though.
@artemisthemp I thought so too
@iSillyBoiJudas I hear Dragon Age is to must pay to win
Doesn't say those same rewards can't be earned in single player. Any excuse to get angry these days.
