We would have bet our life savings on Sucker Punch announcing its new game at E3 2017 – and we would have lost the lot. Despite being out of action for almost three years, the Seattle-based studio still has nothing to say about its new game, widely believed to be a brand new intellectual property for the PlayStation 4.
In an interview at a previous E3, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admitted that he had played the title behind closed doors. And speaking with GameSpot this week, he admitted that he’s gone hands on quite a few times since: “I have played it many, many, many more times," he teased. "And every time I play—I shouldn’t be talking anymore. It’s a game.”
Sony said this week that it held back announcements from its E3 2017 press conference, and we’ll learn more about those games “later in the year”. What’s the betting that Sucker Punch’s new title is among them?

Heh, such a tease. Nice to know there's exciting news to look forward to.
New ip is nice but I'm okay if the game is infamous 2nd son 2.
Infamous X Infamous
Hmm must be really epic if they aren't showing anything after 3 ish years. Sony tend to reveal within 1-2 years of release.
#BringBackCole
At least this is confirmation they are making 'something' LOL
Maybe it's a PS5 game.
I'm not joking.
If you think PS5 could/should release next year @BAMozzy then they'd have to be making games for it already, right?
I feel like replaying Second Son now. I never did get that platinum.
Infamous Third Daughter,can't Wait!
I'd like a new Infamous, Second Son was great.
Maybe they and Retro ran off together?
...no?
@rjejr The way I see it, is that games are already made in 4k with 4k assets and scaled down for the 'standards' of the console(s) they are releasing on. If 'Sucker-Punch' were making a game that 'could' be a PS5 game, it could 'also' be released on PS4/Pro too - with some degree of scaling and/or frame rate capping.
Its no different from 3rd Party games in essence - Take BF4 which launched back in 2013 and was one of the 'first' games on PS4. That game 'could' run at 4k/60 with Ultra settings on PC's - although at the time, that required a massive investment. The PS4 version was scaled down to 900p (I believe) with HD assets and the PS3 version was scaled down further and also had the MP limited to smaller number of gamers. That game wasn't 'built' to run on PS3 and 'scaled up'.
When the Pro launched, we also saw developers able to increase resolution, lighting effects, draw distances, shadow quality etc in a variety of 'old' games with a relatively simple patch.
If Sucker Punch were to be working on a game that was targeting a 'full 4k' resolution on an unannounced PS5, Chances are that it could be scaled down to 1080p (or less) for PS4 and maybe a 1440p or 1800p checkerboard option on Pro.
It annoys me that people think that 'developers' will be making a game at 1080p because that's what the 'lowest' console has and then 'scale' up for Pro, PC or XBX. Chances are the developers make the games at much higher level and then scale down, optimise to fit the lower spec hardware. Scale-ability is most important and why we on console end up with low quality shadows, some missing ambient occlusion and or reflections.
Even hen we get 'brief' glimpses of developers working on games, get a brief look at the character models etc, these are incredible high res images that end up being scaled down. Its much easier to scale down than scale up. You can't put in information that wasn't there. If you take a thumbnail and keep enlarging it, the quality deteriorates rapidly but if you take a large photo and keep reducing it down, the quality doesn't deteriorate significantly. This is in principal why Supersampling a 4k image down to a 1080p screen looks better than a 1080p image.
First party developers may know where their limitations may lie with the lower spec hardware, build the game a certain way - like run mostly in the GPU to keep the CPU from bottlenecking, use tricks to overcome certain problems etc that multi-plat games don't because they are built for more 'general' hardware but they are still built to a much higher standard then we ever see and scaled down...
@rjejr sounds plausible, yet I'd like to have another something from Sucker Punch for my PS4. I freaking love InFamous: Second Son/First Light.
I hope it is something completely new, IMO the Infamous games are rubbish.
Sly 5 confirmed!
[in my dreams]
@JAMes-BroWWWn @Neolit You guys should have been around yesterday, PS5 launch year was a good discussion I thought.
@BAMozzy It's not so much about if Pro can run it, it's about needing a new game that's a system seller at launch that doesnt appear on the previous Gen consoles. inFamous 2nd Son and Killzone both look like they could run on PS3 to me with a little work, but they don't. And Knack, well we're practically talking PS2 in HD there. (Every decent Switch game could run on Wii U b/c it is a Wii U game. Mario included. But Wii U owners lose out.)
If Sony were to launch PS5 in 17 months or less it can't all be ports and dual releases, it needs at least 1 exclusive. And nothing like 1 2 Switch or Snipperclips. God of War and Spider-Man have to be on PS4 at this point or people would lose their minds, probably with Pro enhancements. Kingdom Hearts 3 as well. FF7R is likely head to PS5 in 2018, 2019 or 2020. I think Dreams is likely headed to PS5 as well, certainly if PS5 were to launch in 2018.
I still don't think we get PS5 in 2018, but if Sony is considering it, I bet that's where this game winds up. Maybe in 2019 too, they'll need exclusive launch games then also.
Infamous Second Son is easily one of the most underrated games this gen, the DLC was unnecessary. I'm really looking forward to whatever it is.
Pretty sure the interview was with Greg from kinda funny
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I couldn't agree more.
@Splat second that. 😁
@rjejr Wow you really life in a dreamworld Infamous and Killzone will not run on a PS3. Did you ever own had a PS2 Knack is not beautiful but running on a PS2. I think even the PS3 will not make even if you with the effects.
You called this right days ago @get2sammyb Because of Microsoft's show there was no need to dump all the big guns. You got me excited all over again! E3-2 later this year My guess is close to the X launch.
I enjoyed infamous 1 and 2 much more than second son, so would definitely like to see something new from them.
@JohnKarnes I called it wrong, didn't I? I was sure Sucker Punch would be there!
I'm hoping for either Sly 5 or a true inFAMOUS 3 (with Cole and the gang) personally.
If Sony was considering a PS5 for late 2018, then it might make sense for new sucker punch to target that. It's not about whether it's off-the-charts 4K detail or not (after all, Killzone shadow fall's assets were created in 4K and then supersampled to 1080p for PS4), but about having unique software only for a new system that targets that system's hardware. The next gen of AMD's APU'S are quite different from the jaguar based ones, so backwards /forwards compatibility isn't necessarily a shoe-in. I don't think there'll be a PS5 til at least Q4 2019/Q1 of 2020 though.
Oh Shu you big tease!
@get2sammyb No not that about Sony holding back some surprises to a later date. I believe I read you saying it at a earlier time.
Pleeeaaase be a new infamous!!!
Wake me up when something substantial comes up.
I don't care anymore about teasers, nor do I get hyped.
Let alone about bloody "announcements" for teasers for a title 3 years away.
I'll get interested when it's a product I can buy in the stores.
Why are people talking about a PS5?
Anyways, a new Infamous game would be nice, but if they're taking this long to make a new game, hopefully it's something new...meaning new IP, or they possibly have more than one game.
@Diymhoshei lol no just no
It's all making sense now.
Sony are holding the big surprises until later in the year so it can sabotage the x1x release. It wouldnt surprise me if we get the most crazy, exciting and ridiculous games list ever at PSX.
