The nominees for the E3 2017 Game Critics Awards are in – and they’re missing a significant number of games. So the thing here is that the media had to be able to play at least five minutes of a title for it to be eligible, meaning that the likes of God of War, Spider-Man, Monster Hunter: World, Shadow of the Colossus, and Anthem have all been disqualified. It’s probably fair enough – picking an “official” Game of the Show based upon a trailer or behind closed doors demonstration would be a bit weird.

Still there's Mario Odyssey.
Wait so days gone made it in action adventure but not best of show? It's not my top choice but vs shadow of war?
Really love Spiderman and Anthem... can't wait to hear more about them!
Going by this list, I assume odyssey will sweep, rightfully so..
AC Origins and Shadow of War looked a little dull to me
I know who I would pick in the majority of these based on what I have seen - including additional game-play video's. I take that Days Gone must have been playable then - not just behind closed doors demonstrations of the dynamic open-world? That's still my most anticipated PS4 game at the moment and one of my most anticipated games.
Shadow of War? Seriously?
Can't wait for bloodstained, detroid, dragonball fighter z and mario odyssey, it's too bad the 2D metroid is on 3ds rather than switch.
Why, because journalists are more objective and it's best not to take seriously the views of someone who might well write intelligent articles for blogs but not get paid for it?
Spiderman, Monster Hunter World, One Way Out, and Ori and the Blind Forest 2 didn't make it? Disappointing.
Also, I didn't know Ready at Dawn was making another game. After Deformers, I thought they would have taken a rest.
@SoulsBourne128 they aren't eligible.
Mario was game of the show.
Show of hands: who thought, going into E3, that the weird Mario+Rabbids+XCOM crossover would get so much love? Nobody? I didn't think so.
It looks fantastic, though. GORGEOUS character animations. A clean, lovely art style. Accessible yet reasonably tactical gameplay. A slightly rowdier sense of humor than games featuring Mario are known for. It's still kind of hard to believe Ubisoft is responsible for this.
Super Mario Odyssey was still the best thing there, of course. That possession mechanic is bananas: that was really out of left field, even by Nintendo's standards.
I'm a bit surprised Spider Man wasn't playable. Clearly the game is in a late stage of development.
EDIT: Just noticed Etrian Odyssey V wasn't in the best handheld games list. Blasphemy!
The idea of giving out awards to games that aren't even out yet still seems weird to me.
Disappointing choices, as usual. The absence of God of War and Spiderman is criminal. Not surprised to see them being so in love with Ninty.
@Ralizah I've not been up to date on Nintendo as I never had a Wii U and had hardly played my 3ds in over a year.I was very interested in a Switch for a while until I decided I had too many games and no time for a new console so wasn't even aware that Ubisoft was working on that Nintendo Project but man as much as I find the rabbids annoying/cute/funny all at the same time,that game excited the hell out of me along with Mario Odyssey and now it's only a matter of time before I buy one.
As for Ps4,I think I pretty much liked the look of everything..apart from the sports games and multiplayer only.
@Ralizah
I don't like strategy games, or Ubi$oft, or rabbids, but I admit the game looks very polished. I thought they would just take the collaboration and do something cheap or rushed but it does not seem to be the case.
Still taking Mario Odyssey over it, of course.
Absolute 🐴 💩 the best vr game was Ace Combat by a country mile. Did anyone see that?
Game of show Assassins creed origins? Who's picking that? Who? Whoooooo?
Middle Earth or AC will get best in show being real
