Best announcement of Gamescom 2018 so far? It’s certainly up there: Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games has announced that it’s partnering with Bandai Namco on a new episodic series named The Dark Pictures Anthology. Essentially a series of horror-themed short stories, the season will get underway with Man of Medan – a kind of nautical spook-fest, as a group of unscrupulous teens go in search of a World War II wreckage.
As you’d expect from this type of game, narrative decisions will determine who lives or dies over the course of the campaign, and it'll be deeply replayable as a result. We absolutely love this idea, and it’s so great to see the Guildford developer return to what it’s good at it. The first story's due out next year.

I always thought they should follow-up the success of Until Dawn by kind of doing a similar story with a new cast and characters. This sounds like a brilliant idea.
Really looking forward to Man of Medan — and whatever follows in the Dark Pictures Anthology.
I was going to rant about why everyone’s doing episodic, but this looks awesome & it’ll likely be the first episodic game I pick at launch.
Awesome. This sounds perfect for them following on from Until Dawn as you say.
Still hoping they don't rush this
@Fight_Teza_Fight It's not really episodic like a Telltale series; it's more short stories under The Dark Pictures Anthology umbrella. Seems like the gaming version of Goosebumps or something, which is brilliant!
Cool, I like supernatural story like this, I prefer 1 full games like until dawn compared to short story like this game though.
As long as its not like the last game from the developers of until dawn,im buying it. The last one you were forced to use a mobile phone to play. Please tell me this one will let me play with only my ps4 controller!
To follow up on my last post,I think the game that forced you to play with your mobile phone as a controller, from the makers of until dawn was called hidden agenda.
Boom mind blown.😃
@get2sammyb Gotcha. Sounds great!
@hulkie Yes you can play with a controller!
@NintendoFan4Lyf That's a great idea and I bet they will.
Ooo, yes please. Sounds great 👍
If it's as good as Until Dawn then I'm down.
@get2sammyb Im in then, lol. Also is it just me, or does this seem like an episodic game ,where each chapter is a new story creepshow style?
@hulkie I don't think it will be episodic like telltale games. I think there will be full releases digital and physical for each game, as its an Anothogy it will likely be different people in each game as well but maybe set in the same universe with different horror stories like you said.
Still hoping they work with Sony again and make an Until Dawn 2, this will keep me tied over until then though, can't wait.
I was just wishing for this the other day in another post. 'Great' this is what they should be focusing on. I like the idea of having a collection of shorter stories, it's a very fitting model for this kind of game. I'd rather have a number of cool shorter stories than a long one, since you can explore more interesting horror ideas in way this.
Aww man, I'm so excited for this! I loved Until Dawn.
This looks genuinely awesome. I also dont think it will be episodic. I think it will be 2 or 3 standalone titles brought together by an overarching theme. Either way, im sold
i wonder what game engine they'll be using?. until dawn looked as polished as it did thanks to guerrilla's decima engine.
Yes! Dreams...I mean nightmares do come true. Too bad about the release date as Halloween season would have been perfect. I’ll definitely replay Until Dawn in October and finally pick up The Inpatient.
@Cordeceps Then since its an anthology,I will assume each game will be a lot shorter than until dawn, like half the length.
what happened to the high level of voice acting and motion capture of until dawn? this game looks 3 notches below the quality standard of the studios previous games. very unconvincing work here.
I absolutely loved Until Dawn and now I'm stoked for this! Can't wait!
Until Dawn was such a great experience, so this game has a lot of potential.
Awesome!
Omg that trailer was awesome, I can't wait to see some gameplay and more info!
I'm a huge fan of anything like this.
Is it me or does the lip-sync look like it’s taken a step backward? Also, by horror movie rules, all the black characters must die. There’s no saving them LOL.
@hulkie I'm thinking in between Hidden Agenda and Until Dawn.
Hidden Agenda took about 1-2 hours to complete while Until Dawn took anywhere from 8 - 10 hours to complete, I'll say about 4-5 hours but even 3-4 hours will be fine imo as long as the price represents that.
Was that dude at the end Shawn Ashmore? Looks good though, love me some spooks!
@NintendoFan4Lyf funny that you called it that. I've been watching a lot of the Twilight Zone and Night Gallery recently, and wondered why nobody had jumped on and made an antholgy video game (I thought telltale might've, but based on Until Dawn, I'm glad suppermassive have).
