There are some PlayStation 5 renders doing the rounds, and some sites want you to believe that they’re Sony’s next-gen console. That’s absolute nonsense, of course, considering the company’s yet to even announce a new system. The mock-ups are pretty neat, though, showcasing a slim, almost external hard drive-esque box. There doesn’t appear to be space for a disc drive in these concepts.
For full clarity, the images have been designed in collaboration with the Bonami SpelComputer Museum and are based upon a previous fake, which first appeared on Russian site Rozetked. Ultimately, it’s unlikely the PS5 will be this small, as we’re expecting the Japanese giant to deliver a powerhouse, and we’d be shocked if it dropped the Blu-ray drive any time soon.

Good. That's really not nice! 😂
It's also fairly similar to current gen designs. Not like Sony to stick to the same design language going from one gen to another.
crazy how sites just report anything as true without any proof at all.
besides do they realy think we would ever see full pictures of the system without an offical reveal?
and on a side note,i don't think that any "ps5 reveal" without a disc drive will be the real deal since i realy don't think sony would be stupid enough to get rid of discs. it's already bad enough that next year xbox one will get a digital only version.
I’d like the PS5 to take design ques from PS1.
That lead image is so obviously wrong. I highly doubt Sony will go back to that high gloss, easily scratched panel look for the PS5. Nice try though, Junior.
good it looks terrible, just like the OG XB1 does
@LordBeerus yeah and have a proper Disc door, soft loaders are cool but lets be honest a door is a lot simpler and less prone to breaking
That looks like the bottom half of a PS4 glued to the top half of a PS3, with the corners sanded off. It's like they put Dr Frankenstein in charge of the design team
@FullbringIchigo i don't think they will ever add a disc door to any future PS systems.
they have left that behind since the ps3.
but aslong as we get a disc drive,i'll be happy,no matter if it's via a door or like the ps3/4.
It's hideous. If people are going to come up with a fake at least make it look nice, eh.
I quite like the concept. Also, ready for digital only. Can't wait to see what Sony have in store!
@Shellcore i'm also ready for digital only (not streaming though)
but if the ps5 is digital only, then they will have a rather difficult time selling the system to lot's of people.
could very well be the new xbox one at that point, disappointement wise.
This is ridiculous. Everyone knows the PS5 will be be a handheld/VR hybrid.
I think Sony should go back to the original grey colour of the PS1 for PS5, would make a fresh change from the standard black box look.
@RogerRoger tbh this is what i like about this site.
this is the only gaming site that doesn't try to stirr up controversy for clicks etc.
No no no. That looks terrible, what is this "neat" nonsense. It just looks awful. Sony use this as how not to design the PS5 please.
@RogerRoger @get2sammyb I am expecting someone from some factory where ever the PS5 will be built to post a legit but grainy photo of its case design in due course. You know, to spoil the surprise of Sony's reveal. It's almost an inevitability these days, sadly.
That's disgusting . Fake news SMH
@RogerRoger yes, imagine the internet going ballistic over a crap photo of the PS5's HDMI cable...which will probably be exactly the same as the PS4's HDMI cable.
Smashing times we live in
if we get any real ps5 picture before the official reveal it will most likely be a blue print picture.
@JoeBlogs It's not bad. It's just different, and some people just aren't ready for different yet.
@JoeBlogs knowing microsoft they are just testing the waters to go full on digital later in the future.
especially since they are trying to push streaming with that cloud feature.
i may be wrong, but i'm worrying because of the current state xbox is in and their overall stance on a possible streaming future.
Really couldn't give a monkeys what the thing looks like as long as the tech inside provides a massive upgrade
@AdamNovice nah Sony should have colors ps5 .like a green ps5.red.yellow blue. orange. brown.gray.sony will be even more popular.image first time ever color ps5 will be even more attractive word upson
Fingers crossed the current gen will be the last consoles to have hdd, surely ps5 will have ssd as they are so cheap now...that the ps5 is coming is no surprise at all but what I think will be surprising is the short amount of time between announcement and release(still saying Christmas next year) and certainly wouldn't be surprised to see some of next years big games slip back and become ps5 releases.
Definitely not Sonys architecture
No sht, Sherlock
Anyone would be fooled, seriously?
Edit. It's funny these new gen rumours these last few days
A few gaming sites just make news out of nothing. Earlier today's I was reading some 'news' about Xbox trumping PS5 in some weird circular reference about last E3 announcements passef as new news.
lol thank goodness as the fan heat problems still wouldn't be fixed.
Sony have a reputation for making eye catching tech. This....is not.
It Was a fake ps5 new system .
It truly wouldn't surprise me if there was no Blu-Ray/CDD drive and it was digital only. But if they are going to make it backwards compatible, then that could cause a big uproar. I tend to get most my game digital anyway now, but having the option is always good, imo. I'd like to see the disc drive in it.
Btw, that design is bad and looks way too similar to the PS4 and Sony has always been good about complete redesigns each gen.
@starhops it can all depend on what microsoft will do with their xbox.
i think sony will play it safe and include a disc drive just to 1up the possiblity of microsoft going digital only. and between the 2 xbox is way more likely to go digital only.
a digital only version of the ps5 could be a option ALONGSIDE the disc based version aswell ofcourse.
@get2sammyb just wanted to chime in and give my (worthless) appreciation for PS’s reports about this and the PSVita successor.
I know it should be the norm, but I’m glad people with enough integrity and professionalism exist to research properly and not simply spam the latest news articles the other outlets are publishing.
So yeah, as you know I can be an a**hole (lol) sometimes and have criticized this site a lot in the past, but I’m glad you’re keeping up the good work, even when a lot of outlets are degrading their own image.
Thanks 😄
@jdv95, just because the rumored "All Digital" Xbox One doesn't fit your tastes, doesn't mean its a bad product. For someone who knows they will literally never put a disc in their console, but wants all the other functions and features of that console and can get this product at what is likely to be a cheaper price point due to less hardware costs, its just what that person is looking for. If I didn't already have a fairly large movie library of Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray discs, I would absolutely be interested in a product like this.
@jdv95 Yes. I agree that without physical products on shelves it may not succeed as well as it could. Also, big no to streaming from me also. It's taken me a while to get comfortable with digital, but the sheer convenience of it now outweighs my wish to see boxes on shelves.
No disc drive = no buy.
@motto518 Sigh.
I did not say it would a bad product.
I Said that it would a stupid thing to do Since a lot of people don't like going digital only.
I even Said that i am ready for a digital only feature so it's not about my wants. (Exept streaming).
Maybe read all my comments before putting words in my mouth? Not the first time this happened when someone tries to "correct" me.
Looks nicer than the PS2 at least.
