Cyberpunk 2077 quest designer Paweł Sasko has shed a little more light on how romance will work in the upcoming open world role-playing game. It's been stated previously that the title will present players with a range of romance options, from committed relationships to one night stands -- and Sasko builds on this.
He told Reddit user magired1234 that some relationships will be similar to the ones in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so you can expect the same kind of depth. For reference, Geralt had two primary romance options in Wild Hunt, and both gave a lot of insight into the characters. On top of that, Geralt could also hook up with a number of women through various side quests, if that's what the player wanted.
"[In The Witcher 3] there were whole plotlines regarding characters, and if those NPCs were treated well and interested in Geralt, something was happening," Sasko explains. "So [in Cyberpunk 2077], it's going to be very similar."
Of course, as Sasko points out, Cyberpunk 2077 differs in that it lets players create their own character. V can be male of female, and players are free to define their sexuality. This obviously wasn't the case with Geralt, who was heterosexual. Sasko says that this freedom will give players "way more options".

Triss or Yennefer all over again
My V is going to be everybody's jaina.
meh i never bother with romance options in games anyway, i never feel like they actually add anything to the experience, it's just more padding
still the option is there for those that do so that's always a good thing i suppose
What if you create a character who then wants a gender change? Can you imagine the complexity of something like that in a game. Confuse the hell out of NPC's.
@FullbringIchigo it does in the witcher
The Witcher 3 also had brothels too
@FullbringIchigo Romance in the Witcher wasn't just Padding, just some extra little bit of titillation for the sake of it. Romance and relationship matters - even changed the ending - including the very end of the last DLC too.
@BAMozzy @QualityGeezer honestly i never got round to The Witcher 3, i have enough games in my backlog already, many of them large RPG's so i decided to wait until i can thin my backlog out a bit
@FullbringIchigo @BAMozzy the romance in witcher 3 is about back story so it adds an awefull lot
Here's hoping for some good 'romance' scenes like the bathhouse scene with Triss in The Witcher 2.
The best romance was in Mass Effect Andromeda:
The End.
Cool. I look forward to the inevitable Kotaku/Polygon/RotPeddlerSh*tgun articles about how outraged they are that it doesn't cater for X type of relationship.
@ApostateMage yennefer is a no brainer surely
n.i.c.e. I'm going to give male v some nice looking black women in this game.word ☝ up son
maybe I can date my operating system
Does this come with PSVR support? I'm asking for a friend by the way.
Not trying to bash Witcher 3, but I don't see how that game's romance options were "in depth". It mostly boiled down to Triss or Yennefer and there was no real depth involved other than how it impacted the game's ending. Unless there's some branching storyline I'm not aware of, the impact of what you did or said involving romance was rather minimal.
@Paranoimia I mean it just said in the article that you can define V’s sexuality. You’d think that would allow for whatever role play you wanted.
@nessisonett Indeed, but that doesn't mean they won't find something to be "outraged" about. They've already dropped their noodles over an in-game poster which 99% of people wouldn't otherwise have noticed or given more than a second's thought.
I still feel so guilty and regretful of choosing Yennifer over Triss.
I find romance in computer games is not something that draws me in at all... I didnt really find the Witcher 3 interested me that much either, I started the game but it wasnt for me. Im slightly interested in this game, as I like the futuristic setting.
Cool. My character will be a transfluid robosexual, then.
@Neolit Well, one of them has already implied that Mike Pondsmith doesn't know anything about black culture and has created stereotypical, racist characters, so anything's possible!
Witcher 3's romance options were not in-depth lmao. Dialogue dialogue, oh let's love.
So, is your choice of gender and sexuality going to give you very different romance options? Or for some reason everyone will be bi?
