It sounds like Sony has scrapped plans to host its annual behind-closed-doors trade event Destination PlayStation, with speculation suggesting that its eyes are firmly focused on the PlayStation 5’s reveal event instead. According to journalist Mike Futter, the manufacturer will allow a “major distributor” to take control of this year’s get-together, where the organisation typically shares its plans for the year with retail partners.
While it’s far from confirmation, it’s yet more evidence that the Japanese giant may be looking to showcase its next-gen system in February. After all, the Destination PlayStation showcase is typically held in February, and if the platform holder is pulling out then it may be because it’s double-booked. The organisation confirmed that it won’t be attending E3 2020 this week, so now we must wait patiently to learn more about its plans.

One of the first PS5 reveals we get this year gonna be in Feb I am guessing?
HYPEEEEE
Nice, can't wait to see all those sweet next-gen exclusive games, especially ratchet & clank 2, and I'm sure as heck horizon zd 2 will take graphics to never before seen level
@DonJorginho why would they need more than one reveal event in Feb?
@Angelus3K Multiple throughout the year not all in feb lol
@DonJorginho Which PS5 reveal are you hoping for first? The bottom half or the top?
still doubtful sony will show off anything of horizon zero dawn 2 before PS5 launches. all rumours are pointing to guerrilla working on online shooter of some sort, and i don't think they'd try to deflect attention from a game from the same studio, and PS5 launch would be a good time for guerrilla to launch an FPS franchise.
@Octane - surely the meat in the middle?
@Octane Gonna mix it up and say the lower left
@DonJorginho Hopefully that's the corner with the USB ports.
This is either going to be the biggest blowout in your face year ever for PS5 news, or Sony is going full Nintendo and they'll just release a 3 minute trailer in September with the date and price for a November launch. There is no middle ground, all over or nothing.
No E3 definitely means at least two events. Hardware reveal in February and another event later to showcase a lot of games. That's a mininum.
This everybody losing there mind every time Sony breathes is starting to get annoying. They havent done anything and havent showed anything, and if the past year is anything to go off of they wont reveal there plans till right before they do them. I guarantee they will not have any mind blowing games at launch. I've been a Playstation fan since PS1 and the good games comes years down the road, so everyone chill out till they reveal something.
@Ken_Kaniff Perhaps maybe you should? Lol. People have a right to be excited. It isn't killing anybody, and I'm sure you'll live through it. This is a normal thing that happens every time a new console is close to being revealed. It's not going to change, so you might as well keep your peace. Telling others to chill out isn't going to alter the outcome.
@InsertUsername I'm just as excited as the next fan, but for as far as we know Sony could do a simple random Wired interview to unveil the PS5. Theirs no telling with this new Sony. They seem hell bent on spending as little money as possible to get information to us fans. So until we know what there doing why make numerous articles about really nothing. With how Sony has changed over the past year I feel everyone is building there self's up to just be let down. I honestly dont think this new Sony will even hold a proper stage conference for the PS5.
@Ken_Kaniff If you're excited, then what's the problem? Lol. I highly doubt Sony is going to go through Wired again for a reveal. Likely it will be something different. What that is, who knows, but I'm not going to speculate too much on that. So what if they want to save some money. As long as they do something that will keep people on the edge of their seats/couches, it shouldn't matter. If the articles bother you, you do know you're within your rights to just simply overlook them, so I don't know why you're even complaining. Perhaps people may be build their selves up a bit, but that's their problem, and not ours. Can't control how people react to news.
As for your last sentence, well...that's simply your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I simply disagree. With a new console, they're going to want to pull all the stops to make sure everyone knows about it, so it's fair to expect there will be a proper stage conference for the PS5. It's okay to reserve judgement, but I don't feel it's good too worry so much either. Regardless, I think we both have our own views, so I'll just leave it at that. I do appreciate the civil conversation.
@InsertUsername As do I. It's about the only civil place to have a video game conversation without someone trying to get nasty. To your point, I see what your saying. I'm just hoping for some news sooner rather than later, so I know whether I'm getting this thing at launch or not.
@Ken_Kaniff Better than the moment.. Better than the memory.. The feeling of anticipation!!!!
Be funny if it was on my birthday. I'd like that.
I'm gonna pre order the console as soon as the launch date is confirmed
