Day one patches have become an important element of video game releases throughout the PlayStation 4 generation, allowing developers to continue improving their titles for launch despite it having already gone gold. Some parts of the gaming community aren't a fan of them, but in the case of Cyberpunk 2077, it sounds like its day one patch will be absolutely essential.
Alongside the usual bug and glitch fixes which come with these updates, CD Projekt Red has said that some of the game's voice acting may have to be added via the day one patch due to the Coronavirus. Michal Nowakowski, SVP of business development, stated that there have been some difficulties with the localisation process due to the closure of studios: "By the moment the customers will actually buy the game in September they would just download a file which would add the missing pieces of recordings, but that process has been hampered a little bit."
If Cyberpunk 2077 does go the way of Final Fantasy VII Remake where physical copies are given the green light to be sold early, it's going to be very interesting to see how consumers react to the lack of voice acting for certain sections or characters. That is if CD Projekt Red does indeed have to proceed with this content rollout, of course. It's also likely to affect review copies. With the Polish studio already claiming that outlets will receive their pre-release codes weeks in advance, the entirety of that time will be spent without the presence of the day one patch.
This is only something CD Projekt Red is considering at the time of writing, however, so it may not be a problem as the year progresses and the world hopefully returns to normal. How do you feel about this? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I'm not a fan of releasing physical copies that's missing content. I would prefer it if it had all the voice acting, even if it means a small delay.
I've always sensed that CDPR were struggling with the sheer scope of this game.
Just delay it.
That's an important part of the game, and sound files are usually big, I wish cdp didn't do this
Let's be honest, it's probably getting delayed anyway. At this point I'd be surprised if it makes September. Same with any game currently scheduled for the second half of 2020.
Sounds like only certain localizations would be affected. I wonder what language(s) are the difficult ones to obtain. Like maybe it’s Korean or French or Tongan or something. Perhaps English has all been recorded already.
@ShogunRok I dont know, dont think its getting delayed now. Maybe 3 months from now,if the situation is the same or worse with the virus.Im optimistic.I guess it helps to be optimistic, when Im living in a country with 1 of the smallest death rates from the virus,Greece. Heck,I even think Ghost of tshushima might not have a delay.
@get2sammyb why is my playstation trying to charge me for the crew 2 if it's free all weekend
Patience is a virtue. I've got it and other gamers need it. Wouldn't you rather a finished product? This happens with any media, reminds me of the time that a bunch of songs got released by a certain dubstep artist off of his stolen laptop. They were half done but people still downloaded them and even looped the short tracks. It was a hot mess and now those "songs" are just forgettable garbage.
@KratosMD It does indeed state localisation, but it will still suck for the other countries.
@hulkie I hope you're right. I just think it's probably gonna take a while for everything to get back up and running when quarantines come to an end and all that. CDPR sounds like it's got everything organised even though its workers are at home, but it could always run into unforeseen problems.
I'm just expecting everything to be delayed in the hopes I'll be pleasantly surprised!
@hulkie I thought it was now a September window. 5 months or so.
@KratosMD Yeah, like I remember Naughty Dog announcing that The Last of Us II’s voice work was completed like what, 3-4 months ago? I can’t be sure but I wonder if Cyberpunk’s primary language is Polish, then where does English fit on its hierarchy of languages to get done.
It’s sounding that even if the game launches on time it may end up being better to wait maybe a month before purchasing it.
LOL yet another reason to go digital
@Incarna So do I, but I won't ignore the fact that all of their games have been a disaster at launch. Thronebreaker crashed on me more than any console game ever did, and probably more than all of them combined. TW3 was a mess at launch as well. Whatever they do, I',m definitely waiting on reviews to see if it's playable at launch, and if not, I'm waiting until it is. Either way, I was already planning on waiting till I can play this on the PS5 instead of my OG PS4. But if they decide to delay it, I wouldn't mind waiting some more.
@get2sammyb I can get demo
I would not want to play it without voice. They should just delay it again if needed.
I don't really care about it, if it's a problem I can just wait before buying/playing it until the voice files are released.
I'm with @KratosMD and @Th3solution and think they are only referring to some of the localisation for smaller markets. The Witcher 3 has options for 7 VO languages but most of their core markets used English,Polish and Russian. The other four are French, German, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese. I'd imagine the issue relates to some of these last few as the work is probably outsourced and harder for them to control.
I'll just insert the Martian voices from Mars Attacks! to fill in the missing dialogue. Ack ack ack Ack ack! <don't run, we are your friends>
@Ahourigan86 ? If they pulled money from you account call Sony customer service?
If it ain't working use a different account to download it at?
Delay the game and put it onto discs after it’s finished. Scrambling to finish the voice acting after the games already on disc’s seems like a recipe for crunch and substandard work.
Delay the game and finish it for PS5 with the RayTracing in the PC version.
It will probably be a slide show for everyone like me who owns a regular PS4 anyway.
I was going to do PC because of RT. But rather have it physical on PS5 if also has RT
This game will be an unmitigated disaster. CDPR does not know how to program games. And this one has been started, stopped, started again, completely scrapped and started two more times to get to this point.
There will be no multiplayer on launch because they finally had to contract a third party studio to do it for them because they couldn't get it to work. As late as last year, they were still working on the "content" for the game while having the framework in place.
They initially were pushing to get the game out last year when devs insisted it was nowhere near ready for release. And now we're seeing definite signs that 2020 may not be the year either as it is still lacking many features and that it simply will not be ready for a release in a few months' time.
Tons of pre-release sales of the game just because Keanu Reeves did some mo-cap for it when it's already clear that in-game cutscenes will have his character look nothing like him while playing the game.
Why the hell does the world still believe in this company???
Liam Croft needs to stop spreading misinformation for the sake of clicks. You're an embarrassment guy. No one said that the game will be released with missing audio work. They said that it's possible that they will have to patch it in as a day one patch you disgrace, no one said that they will ship a game with missing f*cking audio. Why don't you spend a little less time creating bullshit clickbait and spend more time bettering yourself because from the looks of things you seem to bee an utter sh*t of a human. Recording studios are all closed so it's impossible as of right now to get the voice actors in to do the recording so they are trying to figure out how to do it properly. No one said that you will receive the game with missing parts.... stop spreading bullsh*t we are pretty sick of it.
@BratT Slow down big boy. What you wrote is all lies and garbage piled on top of the lies. No one restarted the game multiple times and what you need to do is stop taking your miserable life out on game companies and games. If you don't like the game then don't buy it, but you should honestly stop going into articles of games you are NOT going to play and stop trolling and taking your life's frustrations out on anything within your vicinity. Not only do you sound pathetic but just because you are miserable with yourself does not give you the license to make other people's lives miserable. Go away bruh, go get your life in order you seem like a pessimistic utter tool. Also, multi-player was planned years after the initial game started to be made so therefore of course the multi-player is not a launch title.... because it's a seperate project you dolt. The multi-player was started three or four years after the initial game was already being worked on, in fact there was never a plan for any multi-player from the start. The multi-player was only decided on about a year ago. Not only do you not know what you're talking about but to be honest you need to stop talking altogether, you're a miserable degenerate.
@JoeyBatz1 Did you just not read the article then? Calm down Joey, it’s not that deep.
I read your article title. Croft, you are a clickbaiter. You should actually get a degree in journalism instead of sitting at your computer creating juicy clickbait lines. You know what you are doing to the fullest degree with premeditation. We both know you're not stupid like that. Creating an article line which makes it seem as if they game will ship with missing parts in order to get people to click in shock of it all..... no one is stupid guy. I'm probably older by two lifetimes than you and your theoretical pseudo-journalism career put together. You're not a journalist you're a clickbait artist.
@JoeyBatz1 I won’t be responding to you again Batz, but I can promise you that I do actually have a degree in Journalism. 😂
Ever since the delay CDPR keep missing.
I'm getting a bit anxious with it all, hope they manage to pull this off.
@KratosMD I think you have misread the article as Cyberpunk 2077 hasn't gone gold, it is not due to be released until September. Going gold usually happens a few weeks before release when the very first ready-for-release, shippable version of the game that's going to get pressed on discs, put up in online storefronts, and so on.
@KratosMD Yeah you have that right, I seem to remember reading that the game is fully playable from start to finish. I would have thought the English language voice over has already been done, and this article refers to some of the other languages.
Im sure the major languages will be fine. Day one patch for Swahili
It seems senseless pushing ahead to release an unfinished product. With everything going on in the world, we are expecting further delays anyway - might as well use that as an opportunity to finish the game properly.
@East76landS the only reason that’s happening is cause of the virus
@get2sammyb for audio files really, that’s such a waste of money
@Incarna really, audio files we are talking about
Why does this article article mention the fact that the only reason this is happening is cause of the virus, most of the voice studios are close cause of it
