Another day in the video game industry, another developer that’s urged its community not to send death threats after disappointing news. We’ve already seen this recently with the changes to Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and now Cyberpunk 2077’s latest delay has prompted a similar statement from Senior Game Designer Andrzej Zawadzki.
He posted the following message on Twitter:
Earlier today, the Polish studio announced that, despite going gold, Cyberpunk 2077 would launch on 10th December as opposed to 19th November. This gives the team a little extra time to work on the title’s day one patch, which will presumably clean up some critical issues. It pointed out that testing the title across so many platforms has been challenging, and that’s understandable when you consider that PlayStation alone accounts for three different specifications: PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5!

I honestly just worry about the staff. With the base game, next-gen version, Witcher 3 next-gen and the months of maintenance ahead of them, this cannot be healthy. Adding death threats on top of that adds insult to injury.
So they acknowledge that the devs are people but still put them in long crunch anyway?
These threats are getting old. Feels like people are just doing that now just cause.
Gamers: We hate crunch and buggy games
Dev delays
Also Gamers(silly ones): Death threats.
Also also Gamers: R* released just one game this gen.
I wish there was an ethical way to track down the people that do this and hold them accountable.
@nessisonett i really hope they let the staff have time off to recover from the crunch theyve had to endure. As for death threats that is completely unnecessary. Yeh it sucks but the game is gold, its just extra polish. They would send death threats if the Day one patch didnt iron out issues.
All 2077 devs going through crunch .... On top of that death threats.....
People need to understand abt these things and act logically
@TheArt "Also also Gamers: R* released just one game this gen." Wow I didn't even think about that, that's so sad. Thanks gta online 👍
If the delay is to prevent crunch then I'm all for it, I'm guessing the ones that are sending the death threats could give two ***** about the devs and just want the games in their hands at all cost. I don't mind waiting as I know the wait will be worth it.
If you can't wait 1 more month for a game... when there are countless other games in the market.... (and you probably have a backlog) then you have serious problems in life.
Go play something else!!
@nessisonett that's not even including the Multiplayer for Cyberpunk, the expansions and the free updates!
Crazy schedule ahead, they should be receiving encouragement from fans not threats from filthy little basement dwellers.
@DonJorginho That’s very true, I forgot about the multiplayer. This is a crazy workload and CDPR aren’t as big as people think.
@Juanalf The delay won’t prevent crunch, the devs have been in a state of constant crunch for months now. That won’t change with their current workload. From the sounds of it, there just seem to have been some last minute issues that have proven more problematic than they thought.
I asked what's next on the Ubisoft outrage and I guess death threats towards devs after a three week delay is what's next.
I shouldn't be surprised with people on the internet anymore.
Death threats?? Wow. Some seriously sad people.
These monsters on social media deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent, regardless of if they’re serious or not.
Just another day in the industry. Probably best not to take it serious, this happens all the time.
Everyone receives death threats on the internet. Stop feeding that behavior. Highlight the supportive tweets instead.
The law needs to start prosecuting these *****. Simple as that.
@DrJames ummmm yeah maybe if spend your time on 4chan. So we should accept illegal behaviour as the status quo? Your comment is utterly bizarre.
These threats are not cool. Devs are working very hard to deliver a game without big issues. I was sad when I saw the news but I totally understand the effort they put in to deliver this game, which is massive and complex. If you do not work in the industry I think it is hard to see how much work and time takes for a game like this. Chill and have patience!
@AdamNovice point of clarification; they didn’t ‘put them in long crunch’, management offered it as an option to get the game done. Devs agreed to crunch and get compensated for the over time.
@Orochilocka Its funny, how people have selective hearing, isn't it.
Seriously? What's wrong with western gamers?? Why are they're so toxic? Just play others games or clear their backlog 😠
@nessisonett I think they bite off more than they can chew, the last time I heard game devs want to launch their game with 7+ version is mighty no.9. Cdpr should delay it until next year rather than try to launch it this year. Also delay the stadia version, I don't think many people want to play it there, lol 😂
With whats going on in the world at the minute with Covid you would think a delayed game is the least of peoples worries, Ive had a holiday delayed by 4 months and it never entered my head to sent First Choice a death threat. These people just have nothing better to do 😔.
Boy, I remember way back when, the game was done when not only the developer said it was done, so did also...
VeriTest, Third Party Licensing, printing, duplication, etc... Many hands in many games back to the early days, just less I/O between the company and the consumer. People want instant gratification and cry when the milk runs dry.
@AdamNovice
I just wanted to give another opinion to crunch. It seems so many people are concerned about it. I do project management and every month go through intense crunch for launch. Having to stay away from home and work incredibly long hours without a day off. Just to be clear I love crunch. The satisfaction of landing a project well is incredibly rewarding. And posting results on twitter and having the CEO comments raises my profile pushing my career forward. When my family was younger I did jobs within the company that fitted family life. Now they are older I can enjoy a high pressure job. I get time off in build up to project launches and just after. My team loves the crunch too. I have worked with some who don't and usually think they've picked the wrong job as there are many alternative industries. I really wouldn't want my job to change because others believe crunch is a bad thing. It's the pressure reward I thrive on.
@wiiware I actually don't think THAT many people are toxic, however, that doesn't mean their numbers are low. I think these a-holes are a bunch of loud-mouthed minority that start to lash out at everything and everyone.
I fully understand the frustration of waiting all these years for a video game to come out and instead it's getting pushed back constantly. But sending death threats is just too far. It's pathetic and puts the dev under unnecessary pressure.
I want the game to be out asap. But if CDPR isn't confident in the performances, they SHOULD delay it. Even after December. I'd rather play a smooth 30FPS game on my base PS4 later than a crappy performance in November. I have faith in CDPR and have been a long time fan. This game is gonna be fire when it comes out.
@nessisonett @AdamNovice How much time did they have to overwork? From what I've heard it's just one day. It wasn't mandatory either. But one day overtime is completely normal in so many jobs. And it's not like they don't get paid for it either. I've done 12-hour days. Sometimes you have to.
I am really unhappy that i have to wait untill next april for the latest james bond movie...ps5 and cyberpunk pah! I need james bond so i'm off to drink vimto and eat onion rings..that will teach them..
@Arnna yeah you are right. Death threats are so uncommon that a quick search on Push Square on 'death threat' comes up with over 2,000 examples.
If I were them, I'd delay the game until December of next year!
Clearly they are hollow threats as they would never see the game if they killed everyone working on it.
These same people would be raging if it was released in November as a buggy mess.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I am curious to why this got delayed, I believe they went gold in September.
@Sam-Bridges Yeah, most people aren't toxic like in the twitter, it's just a shame that it seems twitter has become one of the most toxic social media on the internet.
What is wrong with people, need to get a grip. It's only a couple of weeks. I get ppl being gutted but death threats really 😞.
Yeah because threatening staff already burnt out on the development of this title is really going to help. Grow up.
What on earth is the matter with people.
@NomNom Not being a fanboy, but i highly suspect there is a performance issue with the base Xbox One. It has been underpowered since launch and many games have struggled to run well on the system.
CDPR are perfectionists and will want the game to run as well as it possibly can on base hardware, particularly given this title is so highly anticipated
@Rob_230 @NomNom In the statement they made, it was quite clear it was because of testing across all systems it is releasing on.
I worry acknowledging these things just encourages it.
Its probably time to acknowledge social media was a mistake and shut it down.
@nessisonett Isn't the next gen version of TW3 developed by Saber Interactive (the guys who also were responsible for the Switch port)?
@nessisonett Witcher 3 next gen is being outsourced to another developer
@mariomaster96 yeah saber interactive!
People that send these need to take a long look in the mirror and maybe seek help it's a game for god sake a game that takes time to make and wether it's been delayed more times who cares least when it comes out it shouldn't be as buggy as other triple a games have been. Because of this so called "I want it now" games since PS3 and 360 have been broken at launch along with publishers also piling pressure to get it out on deadline. If they let games come out at a decent development time then I wonder if that "I want it now" would go away probably not
Giving us gamers a bad rep. Disgusting. I say find the people and fine them. Social media definitely needs to change.
I was going to say it's all down to anonymity but then thought about some of the things you see on Facebook and Twitter, where many use their real names. Some real career limiting stuff posted on there!
There's no excuse for any kind of threat and this type of behaviour should not be tolerated or accepted by anyone. People who try to defend or excuse this behaviour are part of the problem IMHO.
Are those people ***** .wtf is wrong with them sending death treaths to cd project red.idiot people everywhere.its just a game.im rooting more for cd. Now.cyberpunk is going to be a really good game.to many things going in the world right now for people to be acting like a studio gangster .and a fake bully.word up son
The opinions of sad individuals who sit at home playing games all day and not contributing to society don't count for anything. Unfortunately people do let things like this get to them because as humans it's hard to ignore certain things. It's a shame they can't meet face to face, I bet they wouldn't be so brave then. These perpetrators should have their identities exposed and spread over social media, that might make them think twice. A bit like black mirror where all the sex offenders were highlighted in red.
Something is seriously wrong with anyone sending death threats over a delayed game. I am sorry CDPR had to go through this. I wish you all well and support you for making the right choice. Karma has a way with catching up to people like this. Even if you don't catch them, my guess is they will end up in jail anyway. Because of the type of person they are.
Ah yes the classy internet as usual:
"i don't like something, or something very very slightly inconvenient happens that means i am going to threaten to MURDER you and your family. People like that need serious psychiatric help.
Remember when gaming was just gaming, playing together and getting new games when ever they came
Now its a community of people who feel privileged and always get what they want as fast as possible then bitch and complain if its not up to "their standards"
Of course not everyone is like that but the whiners sound the loudest sadly
@JohnnyShoulder @rob_230
You'd think they'd have tested on the base consoles before they went gold.
@NomNom Things get missed in testing, especially if you're under pressure to get something out. You may also find a problem that you think isn't quite serious enough to stop a release but you know needs to be fixed ASAP, before too many people use the software.
There are a large number of factors that dictate when a software release goes out and it's quite often not the actual software developers call.
12 year olds with Twitter accounts.
@Kidfried Schreier is extremely biased though. I'd take things he says about crunch with a grain of salt. Not saying it isn't true, but he may extrapolate anecdotes over the whole team. It's difficult to say.
100-hours in 6 days seems a bit much. That's almost 17 hours a day. That doesn't even make sense productivity-wise, because productivity would only go down if you're working that much. So no sane company would require their staff to work 100+ hours a week.
Honestly, social media just needs to die now. There's nothing "social" about it any more. And the tribalism it generates is spilling over into the real world, making people more hateful than ever over the most ridiculously trivial things.
To all the idiots who send death threats over a toy:
Grow the F up.
Okay so we got death threats for Naughty Dog, we got death threats for Insomniac, and now we got death threats for CD Projekt Red.
The biggest problem that I have with the gamers is they take things seriously, very seriously.
it's not the end of the world if a game was delayed.
Were there any death threats against Rockstar when GTA V was delayed?
No.
@DrJames People using the words ‘death threat’ and people actually using death threats are a completely different thing. But thanks for your churlish and snarky response.
@KnightRider1982 these people are entitled little man children who behave like every company owes them something.
Thing is, with how easy communicating is, there is always some moron, jackass who will send a death threat. Its human nature to have psychos and it will never go away, so commenting on it is kind of pointless.
