Cyberpunk 2077 was already destined to be a game that demands significant time investment — and now we've come to the realisation that we're also going to be spending hours upon hours playing with the title's photo mode.
Going by its reveal trailer, said photo mode looks impressively in-depth. It's got all kinds of sliders that you can mess around with, and yes, it lets you see your custom character from a third person perspective. Simply put, we can't wait to try it out.
So... Can this thing be used during the game's, er, raunchier scenes? Because that right there is an internet phenomenon just waiting to be unleashed.

I'm saying it now: this will be the horniest photo mode ever released.
Time to fulfil my teenage dream, direct and star in my own Brazzers film!
Do you guys believe it will be ACTUALLY released on dec 10?))
@Blacksmith1985 Oh yeah of course, some copies are being shipped now, we are in the endgame my friend!
@ShogunRok when will the review be released? Any ETA?
Will it be you or Sammy reviewing it?
Now THAT is a photomode.
Much fun will be had with this.
@whizzkidd @ShogunRok is already playing this game I bet. He's the RPG or openworld reviewer on here. He's probably like 750hrs+ in.
1000x plus shots of Judy incoming.
@ShogunRok
I do love me a good photo mode.
Looks Sexy an all.....plenty of sliders.
So photomode on day 1 December 10,or a later date?
@ShogunRok 😂😂😂
@hulkie No mention of it being released at a later date, so I assume it's in there at launch.
Yeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!!! Think ill be picking it up sooner than I thought that looks great
I guess that's neat?, if you are the type of person to take photo's in a video game for some reason. I don't really see the appeal in that. But the real question is, does the combat system still play terribly?
So the game went gold before do we get a broken mess on a disc with a gamesize patch leaving us with a fancy coaster? If thats the case its easier for me too get a real nextgen copy.
@Blacksmith1985 oh definitely this time, I know a shop owner and he's got his copies and an email about its street date
@Blacksmith1985 CDPR don't tend to be Bethesda levels of broken but they do tend to have their issues, I'm expecting it to release but I doubt it will be perfect. It took Witcher 3 a while to get to the point its at today.
I doubt it would be pushed back 8 days away from the release. Being skeptical about it actually coming out on the 10th is just being overactive and trying to ride a dead horse.
@Robinsad Life is all about trail and error I am hoping the delays were so the "errors" that came with the Witcher 3 do not occur in CyberPunk 2077.
@GamingVeteran I'm with you. I don't get the appeal...I would rather play the game than spend time taking screenshots. I have very limited game time though, so this is probably for people that do platinums and such, or just have time to burn. I kind of envy them, actually lol
@GamingVeteran Being able to stop the action at any moment, focus on any of the beautiful environments, crane the camera anywhere, control the aperture, F-stops, time of day (for lighting), apply vignettes and filters, and generally have access to a free sandbox editing suite in 4K is honestly kind of a photographers dream. I have definitely had a lot of fun playing around with photo modes; kind of a game within a game. Try playing around with one if you haven’t. If you have and just don’t like it, fair enough but there is an audience for it.
Seems like a cool feature. I always like games with a photo mode.
As someone who has done plenty of amatuer actual photography, I can't believe people actually care about or are excited about photo modes in any game. I always thought that was something nobody actually ever used... I just don't get it. If you'd rather take photos instead of playing the game, that sounds to me like a boring game.
SEVEN DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
@NEStalgia it baffles me too to be fair, but if people like it and get enjoyment from it, meh crack at it I guess.
Swell. Now how about a third person toggle during, y'know, the actual gameplay.
@NEStalgi as someone who graduated from film school, worked on plenty of short films and has photographer friends who also enjoy the feature, I can assure you that it’s not the empty waste of time for everyone as it sounds like it is for you.Also, it’s really not an either or scenario, a person can enjoy both, eh? Ultimately this is simply a matter of opinion. What do they say, ‘different strokes for different folks!’
@Jimmer-jammer Yes it does sound like a photographers dream...IN THE REAL WORLD, not in a video game. That is where you are missing the point. If someone came up to me and showed me a screenshot they took in a video game, I would probably laugh in their face. Loudly.
@GamingVeteran I understand your point. My counter argument is simply that not every creative endeavour is meant to be a showcase. People create things because they enjoy doing it for themselves. I have a plethora of stories and songs that I will never show anyone, does that decrease their value? Also, the “real world” argument doesn’t hold up for me. Does cutting together loops and playing with synths not result in ‘real’ music because an instrument was never touched? Further, what if the person doing this is a saxophone prodigy, does it make them less of a musician even though they make music in the ‘real world’? Photo mode is a neat feature and I certainly appreciate its inclusion, as someone who enjoys photography.
@Jimmer-jammer Fair enough, but it still surprises me that it's a feature that actually has an audience. Especially among those that have access and ability to do something more useful with their eye for composition than doctoring together a bunch of video game screenshots.
The "everything including the kitchen sink" design instead of just focusing on the darned game seems to be rampant in AAA games though. It's like spending a ton of time working on the companion app for your short films.
am I the only one seeing this game in this trailer now and thinking that this looks kinda plastic and crappy?? I know the game is massive and I'm probably one of the biggest CD Project Reds fans because of all Witcher games, but this doesnt look that good at all... hhmmmm
@NEStalgia fair points all around, particularly the (speaking generally here) “everything including the kitchen sink” design trend that’s thinning resources in an already strained work force for really how much payoff? I do look fondly on the days when playing a console game meant inserting a little cartridge into a little machine and that was the beginning and end of it. All killer no filler
The features look impressive but that video almost gave me a seizure.
@Jimmer-jammer @GamingVeteran @NEStalgia
To each their own, but as a digital artist/designer the quality of modern game visuals to me can be breathtaking. Having a good photo mode allows for the ability to create images that look nothing like a straight up "gameplay" screenshot.
Go check out http://deadendthrills.com for an example of what in game images are capable of. This dude's been breaking into games for longer than I can remember and taking some truly stunning shots long before photo modes were even invented.
@Arkman super cool! Thanks a lot!
@whizzkidd
Not sure if this was answered already but the review embargo is December 7th 9pm PST.
@DonJorginho those could magically dissapear
Got a shipping info check, email notification from Best Buy. So Dec 10th is the release date.
The photo mode is over the top crazy. Counting down the days.
