I've always been an advocate of the hallowed 60 frames-per-second. Even back on the PlayStation 3, when we had the excellent Killzone 2 running at a not-so-smooth 30 frames-per-second, I was desperate for that sweet 60. What I didn't realise at the time, was that 60fps wouldn't become the console norm for another decade. With the advent of the PS5, we finally have most new games offering 'performance' modes — graphical settings that prioritise frame-rate over resolution — and it's a beautiful thing.
PC gamers will no doubt be scoffing at this level of adoration. After all, higher frame-rates have been a staple of PC gaming for generations. But being a lifelong PlayStation enthusiast — it's my job, believe it or not — I've never felt compelled to fully explore the PC realm. There was that stint back in 2013 where I spent about 1000 hours playing modded Skyrim on my work computer, but that's a different story entirely!
Anyway, we've finally reached a point where PlayStation games hit 60fps — and there's simply no going back. The PS5 has turned me into a total 60fps snob; returning to 30 might as well make my eyes bleed.
I recently reviewed Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PS5. Being a turn based RPG, it's not the kind of experience that necessitates 60fps, but it has a performance mode on Sony's new system all the same. It runs great, but out of curiosity, I ventured into the options menu and switched to 30fps at a higher resolution. It was an immediate and stark reminder of just how bad 30fps both looks and feels if you're used to 60. Again, once you're in, there's just no going back.
Now I'm not saying 30fps is unplayable... But in certain situations its implementation should be considered a criminal offence. Take Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, for example. Try jumping between 60 and 30 in Capcom's slash-'em-up and it's like playing two completely different games. The latter is nothing short of a disaster; dropping those additional 30 frames actually makes the action much more difficult, and it feels terrible. Reaction timing and button pressing can't be as precise when you only have half of the animation frames to work with, and in a fluid combo-based brawler like Devil May Cry, that's a death sentence.
The same applies to any action-based game that you can think of. Monster Hunter World is one of my all-time favourite PS4 games, but after sampling it on PS5, where it hits that 60fps cap, I don't know how I ever managed to sink 400 hours into it on last-gen hardware. A disgustingly choppy nightmare that only fools could enjoy.
Obviously I'm being dramatic, but hopefully you understand where I'm coming from. I've always championed the idea that games are much more fun when they feel good to play. A lot of different in-game factors can bleed into this interpretation: character animation, sound effects, button inputs, and environmental reactions — just to name a few. But on a technical level, the simple jump from 30 to 60 frames-per-second can make a world of difference. I'm not saying that every game running at 60fps automatically feels amazing — if only — but there's no denying the inherent smoothness of a higher frame-rate.
I'm at a point now where 30fps can be a genuine deal breaker; full snobbery has been achieved. As is probably the case with many of you reading this, my PS4 backlog is still significant. I'll find myself scrolling through my PS4 library on PS5 when I don't have anything to review, and it always boils down to one question: does it run at 60fps on PS5? If the answer is no, I likely won't bother. After the whole Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco, I thought about going back to The Witcher 3 for the eightieth time. But at 30fps? No chance. Who do you think I am?
Complaining about games that can only manage a rock solid 30fps is a prime first world problem, but ever since I nabbed a PS5, that's what it comes down to. Who knows? Give it another ten years and I might be back writing another soapbox on how 120fps is our new lord and saviour.
Are you a fellow 60fps snob? Are you happy to see more games give us additional graphics options? Have your say in our poll, and be sure to double your frame-rate in the comments section below.

60 FPS is the way to go. I find my enjoyment for games fall if the framerate isn't at lease stable. I can deal with 30. Won't be happy about it, but it's fine for some games.
120 HZ feels even better though. I can actually tolerate Fortnite with my fiancée on PS5 because of that and the few other features it offers on that console.
I'm not gonna turn my nose up on a game because it isn't 60 FPS though. I'd just enjoy it more if it was.
Higher frame rate is obviously better but I don’t really care if it’s 30fps or 60fps.
Lately, I’m just grateful if the game I’m playing is actually finished. 60fps can’t save a broken mess.
I still haven’t felt any difference between the two. In terms of I couldn’t just notice from play. If I had a game that let me choose i’d experiment to see the difference. I don’t right now. I’ve mainly just been playing PS4 games on my ps5 but none with that option.
Unless any of the ps plus / collection games do. If anyone could let me know I’d be interested to try the comparison.
I used to get hung up on frame rates and resolutions, but since having a Switch I’ve let a lot of that go. High performance is great but I can tolerate pretty shoddy resolutions and frame rate drops now if the game itself is good (Xenoblade Chronicles 2). Ultimately, you’re not doing yourself a favour by putting up barriers like that. But also, it’s just video games so who gives a sh*t really.
No matter if it's 30 fps or 60 fps, just as long it's stable.
I prefer 60 to be the baseline.
I’ll play everything regardless.
Playing on Nintendo systems I've regularly had 60fps games and on PS4 the likes of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry already had those targets and played very well because of them. This generation just gone obviously the cpu was a major weakness for having open world games anything other than 30fps so that was understandable. That said I was disappointed when the likes of Crash and Spyro were when they really should have been targeting 60fps, same with CTR when compared with Mario Kart 8 was no contest when it came to fluidity. Next gen I see no excuse for any game not targeting 60fps but its not the be all and end all as many of the best games I've ever played were nowhere near 60fps and not all types of games have the same benefits
@Medic_Alert I see all the horrible performance issues I just don’t really let them bother me. Play EDF and you probably won’t care about performance issues either haha. The only thing that really gets me annoyed is long loading times, but they have to be lonnnng and frequent.
Maybe I’ll change my mind in the future and frame rates will become a problem again 🤷♂️
Has someone there toggled on PushSquare's hyperbole setting today? 😉
I love it cos I'm a snob too.
@HUMPERDOO
Lol, I relate this to their recent article bitching about Sony not releasing news. It’s like they are getting bored and trying to think of articles to write because they haven’t got so many PS Blog announcements to regurgitate over 10 articles and don’t have the budget or motivation for investigative journalism nor the contacts for interviews.
As a PS news aggregation site however, this is my best place to be, and the community is always chill.
If I've a choice of 30 all bells and whistles or 60 I'll take 60 every day of the week.
Some games are fine 30 though and I suspect we'll see whatever the next ND game is (forgetting TLoU 2 remaster) go for 30 to preserve the bleeding edge graphics.
Could not care less if its 30 or 60fps.if the game runs good and looks good thats all i care about.word up son
@kyleforrester87 the only thing that bothers me with Switch is developers using TAA to try and hide lower resolution games but all it does it make them look really blurry. Nintendo themselves have the better option of just leaving them as is and they look so much sharper, Monster Hunter is another which despite a lower resolution it looks really nice and sharp because we can see the raw pixels
Depends on the game. AC valhalla looked like a cartoon at 60 fps. The lighting was so much better on quality mode that I played through it and thought better of it on that mode.
Whoever voted for not caring is either being sarcastic or they are ignorant to the power of frame rate.
I was actually thinking the same yesterday as I was checking which games got that 60fps upgrade
I didn't think I was too bothered until I switched to the graphics mode on Control Ultimate Edition after about 20 hours of playing the performance mode and oh my hairy Jesus was it a shocker. No amount of sexy ray tracing was going to stop my eyes from feeling like they were going to pop out of my head and throw themselves off a cliff in protest
I'd take a perfectly frame paced 30fps, over a wavering uncapped framerate. If 60fps is available, I'd go for that, but I have a base PS4 so on most games fidelity would take a significant hit.
I think I play many games fine at 30fps, I notice the difference mostly when switching between the two but then adjust to it. Also seems more important in some types of games than others, so racing games or fighting games I would prefer at 60fps.
@thefourfoldroot I notice you haven't commented on the feature I uploaded yesterday containing quotes from 14 different developers, as seen here: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2021/03/feature_what_25_years_of_resident_evil_means_to_game_developers
Did you miss that one, or are you just trying to make up a narrative that doesn't exist?
Our community has asked for more opinion-based articles. This is that, with another being uploaded in a few hours.
After playing jedi fallen order and the divisions 2, it's really hard to go back to 30 fps 😃
I'm okay with super smooth 30 fps like ghost of tsushima and tlou 2 though, but I don't want to ubisoft 30 fps game since it's really not smooth.
I was fine with 30 fps for a long time, but after finally getting a really good gaming PC about five years ago, I can’t go back. If it's the only option, I'll suck it up, but 60 fps is just objectively more physically comfortable for my eyes.
@LiamCroft
Nope, missed that one. Or rather I just didn’t click it as it highlighted Resident Evil and I’m not a big fan (liked 1 as a kid, 5 for co-op with the wife, and 7 due to VR, but that’s it).
Fair cop, and timely article example, but the point remains valid. Not that it’s just you, but almost the entire gaming press. This is pretty much my main gaming site, which shows I like it, but I’m not blind either.
It’s feedback like this, ironically, which I appreciate the most actually.
@wiiware I get you there, I played through Fallen Order on my base PS4 and did enjoy the game, but was often thinking the game would benefit from smoother performance, due to the nature of the combat.
If you think that’s good Robert, PC gaming is going to blow your balls off. I get 100fps on average for Monster Hunter World including the hi res texture pack.
Totally agree. 60FPS all the time. Watch Dogs Legion for example... a shame. No 60FPS no buy
I wouldn't call myself a snob just yet. I firmly believe that a game designed with a specific framerate in mind is good regardless.
That said, having played God of War and Ghost of Tsushima on PS5, there's no denying 60fps just hits different.
@wiiware GOT is 60FPS on PS5
The better the graphics the better, but I never get too bothered by graphics limitations. The concept of avoiding a game just because it's 30fps instead of 60 seems alien to me.
It is a little amusing to see, for example, Series X owners creaming themselves over 60fps Skyrim when I was playing that game at higher framerates on a fairly modest rig back in 2011.
With that said, I also like consoles and handhelds, so I've never been too beholden to performance snobbery. 60fps is better, of course, but sometimes I'll snag a game on PS4 if it's cheaper there, sometimes I'd rather play a Switch port for that off-TV action, etc.
I am happy to see the next-gen consoles allowing performance modes for so many of their games. As someone uninterested in upgrading to 4K at the moment, it makes me feel like that investment wouldn't be a waste of time if I eventually made it.
I like it that they give options, so the consumer can choose which is their preference. I know, or rather, have read articles that state that developers always prefer resolution over frames. That is what they prioritize during development, to an extent. As one who is developer first, I respect that, and will always continue to support developer preference.
However, me personally, I will always choose frames over resolution. So when a developer gives me an option, a choice on which I would like to prioritize, frames or resolution, I am always thankful for that and i hope this continues throughout the generation that way both parties win, developers and consumers.
I didn't think I can tell the difference, but now FFVII remake feels very laggy on a PS5 (PS4 compatibility)? Is it actually dropping below 30FPS or has my brain rewired itself to expect 60FPS?
Doesn’t The Witcher 3 have a performance option on PlayStation?
I'm old enough to experience the 50/60hz PAL vs NTSC.
I'm now also old enough to buy imports for my retro collection. 50hz is awful.
I'm completely onboard with you, sir. 👍
I'm alright with 30fps, depending on the game, but having a few months of PS5's buttery goodness has left me needing a longer period of acclimatisation to go back to it.
Also, games given a PS5 update, God Of War (absolutely stunning) Ghost of Tsushima, etc, are given such a new lease of life, you just couldn't go back to how they were pre-PS5.
Fly in the ointment though..... TLOU2, my favourite game ever, is yet to be blessed with those extra, lovely frames.
..... DON'T MAKE ME COME ROUND THERE, NEIL!! 😂
It's not a necessity for me, but I believe it should be the standard.
I tried to play Control with RTX/30FPS, but couldn't stomach the framerate drop. Maybe I'm a little bit snobby lol
I choose frames over resolution every time, and consider myself a bit of a fame snob because of it. That being said, 30 will never be unplayable in my mind as I've enjoyed many, many 30 fps games over the years - even those with pretty bad performance - but 60 is gold. Recently though, playing games like Ori atWotW, Rocket League, and Sea of Thieves at 120 on XBSX has been a real treat.
30fps is no deal breaker, but it can influence my choice of platform. What I would definitely say is that 60fps should br a priority over fidelity for me, in terms of future game development.
60FPS is so much better that it’s hard to go back. I’ve been playing The Witness in 60FPS but tried the 4K 30FPS option and it felt immediately worse. Even a game like that felt so dreadful and choppy coming from 60FPS. If there’s an option, I’m picking 60FPS.
Same here! I used to be interested in lines of resolution, shading, shadows, all this detail...now I am like..60fps mode..done. It's not impossible to go back, I just don't want to. I also research in purchases, its why I did not buy Watch Dogs Legion, because its only 30fps.
It depends. I tried both and can play DMC5 on both, in fact, I don't think I have it set to 60FPS. Demon's Souls I legit thought was lagging on Graphics, I left it that way my eyes started adjust, but that was a terrible Switch. Not all games feel that way, but I can see where some people come from with it.
@Ralizah I’m sure your PC wasn’t playing Skyrim native 4K at 60fps back in 2011 😉
People talking about PC... Comparing PC to consoles is a bit like comparing a bicycle to a motorcycle - both can get you where you want to go, but obviously one of them is a lot faster, and a lot more expensive and complex because of it. No one is surprised or impressed you sped past a bicycle in a race with your motorcycle.
The difference is undeniable and yet I still chose to play through God of War in resolution mode. Depends on the game for me.
Honestly I have tried a few games on ps5 with the 60fps and then changed it to the 30fps mode and I can honestly say I could not tell the difference at all, think I'm getting old lol. It's the same when I got my 4k TV, I honestly couldn't tell that much of a difference between it and HD, when I watched a 4k movie it looked a little sharper but nothing that got me going wow. I actually like that I can't see that much difference between 60fps and 30 and see them the same.
@everynowandben Consoles are fairly up to pace with PCs. Now, they are all motorcycles, it's just one goes 50km and the other goes 60km. They are pretty close.
dunno, smoothness and stability seems more important than a specific framerate to me.. and some style of games it's hard to tell the difference. i played control on performance mode, nothing about it screamed "60fps" to me. in fact destiny on PS4 at 30fps feels a lot more fluid.. i've tried the native PS5 version of destiny 2 at 60fps, it's very smooth and fluid, but i can't really tell the difference on that either.. maybe if i swapped between the PS4 and PS5 versions while they were both running it might be easier to tell.
I always immediately notice the difference when I go between 30 and 60. It's jarring to me. I know others may not notice, but boy, those missing frames really make a difference.
PC/PS5 MASTER RACE NINJA CONFIRMED
This has totally happened to me too!
I used to be someone who'd say how I coped with 15fps N64 games and survived perfectly well so quit complaining... But now! After playing so many 60fps games on PS5, Its tough going back.
For example I booted up FFVII remake after playing Jedi Fallen Order and the drop to 30 looked so juddery at first.
I even got Crash 4 and Immortals Fenyx Rising on PS5 over Switch purely because of the 60fps. (was shocked with myself that I prioritised framerate over the convenience of portability!)
Nah I still dont care much about frame rates. I mean if its better then great but not too bothered. I guess because of so many years with games running not so great its kinda part of gaming for me haha
Edit
Now that I have a large 4k TV I can't stand 1080p though. I think it makes sense. I mean I invested in it better be not for nothing.
I'm still happy to play 30fps, it's only noticeable if you've been playing a 60fps game for a while, and even then I soon adapt back and don't care any more.
I am concerned that having 60 as the standard will set back other areas like detail, ai, and draw distance. Unless we really are at the point where there is plenty of cpu to go round.
60fps but i do try out the 4k ultra settings..they dont stay selected for long as i prefer responsive controls and smooth screen rate..godfall,control even fenyx rising all look amazing in quality mode but by christ do you notice the fps drop..jarring but tbh fenyx isnt too bad but i suppose its hardly a graphics show stopper anyway...avengers looks stunning in quality mode but again the drop in fps is very much in yer face...oh and i hate the master race prefix not because of racist conotations but because its sooo last decade and pc elitist snobbery..we are above that crap..
It is, and shall remain, completely irrelevant to me. As long as it's smooth, consistent, and predictable, I'm quite happy with 30fps. It makes no difference at all to my enjoyment of a game - and that's from someone with both a gaming PC and a gaming-capable laptop.
When I played Control on PS5 I thought to myself, "I'm gonna change the settings to see what this looks like running at 60fps" and so I went to the settings only to discover, and honestly what a twist, it already was on that setting. So I kinda came to the conclusion that if I couldn't tell, 60fps made no difference to me, so I switched it and enjoyed the game in the fancy graphics mode to see what the much lauded RAY TRACING thing was all about. There were more reflections.
So it's a resounding couldn't give a fig from me then.
In all honesty as a Game player I never notice these small attention to details....................As a Game Watcher then there is an argument for frame rates I'm too busy playing to notice.
@Northern_munkey fully agree with you on the master race thing. Let's let pc users keep that one for themselves if they must use it.
@Balosi amen dude...and all these people saying they cant tell any difference between 30fps,60fps and 4k movies and normal 1080p blurays...WOW are you all really that blind or seriously in need of the attention no matter how negative it is?
I started gaming back then with the SNES, and most games there where locked 60 fps (or 50 fps with PAL, as in my case). So switching then to 12 fps (???) at Starwing/Star Fox, 25 fps at Super Mario 64 and 16.7 fps at Ocarina of Time was something I thought was normal because of 3D, and I got used to it (well, F-Zero X proved to me that low framerates aren‘t a must with 3D gaming).
The main reason that the PS5 is my first Playstation is that it feels like gaming with the SNES: amazing and super fluid games with almost no loading times and super-quite operation.
Beside BOTW2, I will never buy a big 30 fps game again, I won‘t even download FFVII because of the it. Call me a snob!
Last of us 2 at 30fps is still incredible, no problem playing at 30… but when I got my ps4 the first game I bought was TLOU remastered and played through it at 60fps... Out of curiosity I tried 30fps mode and couldn't last 10 seconds.
Anyway, I started gaming on a XT PC around late 80s... I was used to sub 15fps games, even worse, maybe 5fps 😂... Now we demand so much from the technical POV but gameplay wise we are pretty much playing the same games decade after decade.
I can notice the low res quality of games on consoles but not the low framerates because the gameplay is mostly smooth and stable. However, I cannot stand 30fps when I play on PC.
@Max_the_German hi there! I've just said more or less the same as you, "back then" you couldn't choose and really, we even didn't knew or cared about it, we were just happy to play. I even remember Hard Driving or Cruising USA at the arcades, those were some awfully low fps!!!
So dramatic. When I play 30 fps games after playing 60/120 I can visually notice and feel the difference but it only impacts me for like 10 seconds then I adjust. After that I barely notice it unless I specifically look for it.
I don't care if it's 30 or 60fps. If the frame rate is stable and isn't jumping around so much it's good enough.
I would be a snob too, if I could get my hands on a PS5. 😂
Played Control, Borderlands 3 and Days Gone so far and the difference is night and day..
Not sure how some cannot see the difference. Not a dig, just a general observation and query in all honesty.
In fairness though, if the option is there, then great but it's not a deal breaker in any way, shape or form, if its a rock solid 30 and A good game, then Im fine with that. It's just more noticeable, when switching from 60 back to 30.
@Wavey84 are you jealous of how much pc gamers have to spend keeping their rigs up to current spec? Most gamers on this site probably cant or wouldnt want to even consider the amount of expenditure it would require to play games at the level of quality you described..i will not even try to argue your maths here as i dont know enough to make an informed oppinion in regards to fps, screen ratio or whatever it is you are on about so i'll leave that to bamozzy or some one in the know 😉..enjoy your run in the hills..
Am I the only one who is still a bit disappointed that we have to choose?! Checkerboarded 1440p, 60 fps, ray tracing with 1080 p reflections for the win!
It's very noticeable if you toggle between 30 and 60, but if I play a game at 30 fps for a while I get completely used to it. 60 is obviously superior but there's a balance between fps, resolution, polygons, effects, AI, etc. This is why there will always be games that run at 30.
I say I 'don't care', but only because I've never had much more option than the standard 30 (base ps4, decade old telly). Looking forward to owning a ps5 eventually and trying it on a good TV!
Depends completely on the genre. If the gameplay isn’t twitchy and the camera is fairly static then 30fps is fine.
I want games to continue to offer a choice! Let me look at both high frames and a more graphics and pick what I feel is best for that individual game.
I'm still a Sony Pony, but I switched to PC as my primary gaming platform for all 3rd party titles about a decade ago and I can't ever go back.
Stuff like Uncharted or Horizon or Spider-Man I had no issue playing at 30 because they were built/tuned for it and maintained a rock solid 30, but I recently tried to get into Bloodborne and just couldn't do it. The wild inconsistencies in framerate genuinely made my eyes hurt. I get that devs want to chase those ridiculous sky-high resolutions, but a higher and stable framerate is so much more important to me.
Control looks fantastic at 30fps with ray tracing but 60fps without the ray tracing was so much smoother. There was one fight that I struggled with, however I changed it to 60fps performance mode and didn't struggle with the fight as much. With 60fps I seemed to find my aiming easier. I actually don't know why though.
I don't care if a game is 30 or 60. I just care that the games runs consistently at that frame rate.
I hate frame drops.
I don't really care tbh. I'm guessing that's why 60fps was never prioritized on consoles. The average guy who buys consoles to PLAY games and not spend 1000hrs tinkering settings ending up playing games for 10mins on PC, doesn't really care about that sort of stuff.
‘Even back on the PlayStation 3...’ 😂 Kids today.
I acknowledge that some genres are best or most ideal at 60 fps and I can certainly tell the difference between the two but its never a deal breaker for me if a games 30. As long as the framerate is stable enough that it isn't distracting I really couldn't care less.
@TheArt The reason why 60fps are not prioritized on consoles before is because Sony and MS wants to lower the cost of PS4/XBX1.
After a few minutes I easily adjust back to 30fps, but 60fps is a nice luxury. The most important thing is a stable framerate at either. It seems like most people who go on about 60fps being the be all and end all just use it to try and make other people who don't have it feel bad.
There are some games I actively prefer at 30fps too, such as horror games or RPGs as it helps make them feel more cinematic instead of like a cheap TV movie. Fighting, action and racing games are noticeably better with 60fps though.
I wouldn't say I've gone full snob but I'll definitely choose 60 fps mode if there's a choice. I can usually go back and forth if I'm playing different games and tolerate 30 fps but I've always noticed the change and after also trying Yakuza: Like a Dragon on the higher resolution mode I can agree the immediate difference is jarring.
60 fps isn't good enough now, we need a 4K @ 120 fps mode now haha XD.
I always pick the best and most artistic graphics options to maximize immersion and then I go for framerate and lastly resolution.
Spider-Man's RT mode is perfect for me.
As a PC main these days, I very much welcome this development in console gaming, and may it stay from now on.
@BrainHacker Well yeah maybe. So to lower costs, they prioritize the eye-catching feature - resolution and/or graphics.
Like some others, I can see the difference but I get adjusted to 30fps after just a few mins coming off a 60fps game.
@TheArt I won't totally say that Sony and MS prioritizes graphics over framerates considering that PS4 and XBX1 are running on checkerboard rendering at 30fps and not even on native 4K. PS5 can't even run Hitman 3 on native 4k.
I've tried playing multi-platform games on both PC and console, and it is noticeable that the consoles compensate many graphical features/setting for the games to run well.
@Wavey84 i think sotc running on the ps5 does have the ability to run in 60fps..its one of the ps4 games i have not tried out yet..
Haven't played Horizon on PC yet. By all accounts it was kind of a mess on when it released but it seems to be in better shape now, and I put nearly 200 hours into it on PS4, so I haven't had a desire to play through it again. I will pick it up on PC, eventually, but not any time soon.
@Ristar24 Ubisoft games are the worst, I literally can't play the divisions 2 demo and assassin's creed games because it's so choppy even on ps4 pro.
@ORO_ERICIUS Yup, I already played it on ps5, it's good but the difference is smaller than I thought compared to 30 fps ps4. If ND patched tlou 2 to 60 fps I think the result will be the same.
I am glad PS5 owners have something to show for it
For 99% of my library I don't care about the frame rate as long as it's rock solid. There are a few games where the extra frames make a difference to how they feel to me, but I'd rather get more graphical fidelity if it's a choice between the two.
Then again that could all be related to sensory issues and fewer frames being less to take in, so as always, YMMV
@Wavey84 Totally agree with you!
I've been primarily a PC gamer since the early 2000s, only got into PS4 gaming in 2019. When there's a game with an option of running at 60FPS, I'm always going to prefer that, but especially the 1st party titles on PS4 that are well optimized and have perfect frame pacing (God of War, TLOU2, etc) feel "smooth" enough that I'm not hung up on the performance. It's with choppy framerates and pacing that I lose my enjoyment.
I must be the only one who doesn’t see much difference between 30fps and 60fps.
Comming from the c64 days I do enjoy the better frame rates, graphics and loading times we have now but in the end a great game is a great game.i still love to play emulated old games on pc. Yes 60frames is better but not playing a game because it's only 30? You sure you are a gamer?
I'd rather have a rock solid 30 fps than an intermittent 60 fps, so not sure what category I should choose above?
I tried the 60fps option on Everybody's Golf on the PS4 Pro and that just made me feel somewhat queasy when whizzing the camera around!
@Wavey84
I have an LGC9 OLED 55” TV and a PS5 so a pretty decent set up which definitely should be able to show the difference I would say.
I’ll give your advice a go on a game that offers both options (I don’t own the two games you refer to).
@wavey84 maybe it depends on tv maybe on person..im usualy playing on my bravia 4k from 2015 and got no problem with stuttering, yes a game is much smoother when i play on my pc at high frames but for me 30 is not a big step back, its less smooth but after few minutes i dont see a difference anymore
@DrJames haha love that comment 👍
I remember Perfect Dark on the n64 clocking in at 12-15fps......not even playable in todays terms but something we had to put up with a lot back then. You lot don't know your born!
My dream is becoming a 60fps Snob but I can’t find a PS5 and don’t want to give money to scalpers. Thinking about buying a Series X once Flight Simulator 2020 will be issued if I still can’t find a PS5. I just look at my PS4 Pro sometimes like it was an old girlfriend I don’t want to spent summer holidays with anymore lol
Moving pictures are an optical illusion. Having spent years playing games on PC at 120 FPS+ my brain simply doesn't interpret 30 FPS as smooth movement anymore. I recently tried to play Bloodborne again and gave up after a few hours.
I haven't really noticed anything really while playing these 60FPS games on my PS5 People bang on about it on the Internet but I haven't really noticed anything and I have played billions of games. Maybe for me a good game is all that matters in the end and I don't look for things like this.
60 is better but I’ve been playing RDR2 at 30fps and it’s still phenomenal so in the grand scheme of things I don’t give a ***** as long as the games good either way.
For me playing at 60fps I have really felt the benefit been dipping back into Division 2, Days Gone, Destiny, now they have the PS5 patches my aim and reactions seem a lot more accurate helping my old eyes i'm in my forties don't you know!! The whole experience is just smoother less jarring more enjoyable.
If you haven't noticed the difference try WRC9 in 60fps for a couple of hours or so and then go back to 30fps. It feels unplayable!!
I'm just hoping the the PS5 can handle full graphic's mode in 4k with 60fps once the games are optimised properly!?
Started playing the Last Guardian on PS5 last night and I am tempted to put it down in the hope that they release a 60 fps patch. 30 fps feels nauseating
@Waluigi999 this may be of interest to you:

@Jimmer-jammer
Thanks, that is useful to know - it's a pity I only have the PS Plus version
I have a 244hz monitor on my PC and my laptop even has a 300 hz screen (2080s) but the truth is as long as its 60+ I'm good. My son who plays lots of shooters tends to see 120 fps as a base requirement but I struggle to see the difference. Variable frame rate is the most important thing for smooth gaming though, regardless of frame rate.
@Wavey84 i almost feel sorry lol. I understand your point of view and i installed rise of the tombraider but for me on my 'old' 2015 50hz 4k bravia i dont see any blur or much diffence playing between 4k or higher frames. Maybe my eyesight is just more wasted already, im 44 and still game about 15 hours a week. But i realy hope you find a setting/tv or framerate that lets you enjoy your games, cause in the end we all just want to enjoy the games we play
60 fps is fine but it still looks choppy to pc gamer snobs who play on 240 hz monitors. Jus sayin, consoles need to catch up already
Ideally, I'll take 60fps.
It's not so much of an issue on pc, where 60+ is ubiquitous.
But, ps5 games like TLOU 2, Cyberpunk etc...benefit massively from the boost to 60.
