Square Enix will be present at E3 2021 in some capacity, the publisher has confirmed. The all-digital event is set to take place this June, and Square Enix will be joining the likes of Ubisoft, Capcom, and Konami.
Speaking to Japanese publication Nikkei (as reported by VGC), Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda outlines the company's year ahead. He mentions upcoming releases NieR Replicant and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, before noting that the publisher is "also planning to make an announcement at E3 in June".
As always, it'll be interesting to see what Square Enix brings to the table. Recently, it's been experimenting with its own digital showcases, and last time out, we got a good look at Forspoken. We would assume that we'll be seeing more of that open world adventure this summer. Final Fantasy XVI could also be on the cards.

I now officially have a reason to care about E3 this year
Most likely just new trailers of excisting games. Hope something of FFVII remake 2 will be shown.
Parasites eve .make it happen .word up son
SE has an odd release record of great and mediocre games. They're not constantly hitting home runs like capcom but it'll be interesting to see what they bring to the table this year.
FF6 Remake.
FF7 Remake Part II.
Dragon Quest XII.
New Front Mission.
Parasite Eve Remake.
Any of those are acceptable.
Announce that Drakengard and Drakengard 3 remake. I need to see Caim and Lady Zero, from their respective games, on PS4/5
Guess we know when the next info dump for Final Fantasy XVI will be
Brave Fencer Musashi reboot inbound.
@ATaco Bruh Capcom does not hit consistent home runs lmao
They're way better now but especially from 2010/2011 up until about 2016 they were SUPER hit or miss, especially on their fighting games
@AndyKazama YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good, but what about SEGA.
All I care about is Final Fantasy XVI. Some more info on Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade wouldn't hurt either.
Didn't I hear Squenix have set up a production company, or is my brain inventing that? If so, bet it's related to that.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Release Date Announcement.
Parasite Eve Remaster/Remake Collection Announced.
Final Fantasy VI Remake or original playable on Ps4/5.
Deus Ex please 🙏
I think with Forspoken and FFXVI being timed Playstation exclusives, Sony might have a say when these games show up again. It's possible they may want them at a State of Play rather then E3.
I hope this means we see Tomb Raider remakes or remasters of the ps1 ps2 tomb raiders and more info on the next instalment!😄
Looking forward to see more of FFXVI. I really hope they bring back the job system in some way. A few surprises would be great like Chrono Trigger or FFVI remakes
We need something from Babylon's Fall. The most recent trailer was awesome, but that was over a year ago.
My prediction is some sort of Microsoft/Gamepass deal like EA Play where certain new Square Enix games are on Gamepass at launch. (Although most of my predictions are usually wrong 😤)
Here’s an announcement for you Square - the character from your new Final Fantasy game looks like an extra from a Linkin Park video. Hard pass!!
@TheFrenchiestFry okay...but SE STILL isn't consistent while Capcom have definitely improved. It's hard to get excited when SE announces a new IP or something that won't release for several years.
I’m excited to see what Square Enix has to announce! Personally, I’m hoping for more info on Final Fantasy XVI. It would also be great to see a smaller reveal, like a remastered port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution — especially considering that July apparently marks the 25th anniversary of the Star Ocean series. Final Fantasy XVI and Star Ocean could be announced at completely different times, though. Maybe we’ll even get an update on the next Kingdom Hearts? I know it’s unlikely we’ll hear all those announcements at the same time, but you never know.
@everynowandben that would be pretty cool. Eidos montreal was giving CD support on Avengers, but with the flop of that, i can see them going back to the old guard. That is Tomb raider and Deus Ex.
Deus Ex MD didn't sell gangbusters and honestly wasn't as good as HR.
I could see a remake of the original with added content. I think it's time.
Fingers crossed.
@Kingdom_Hearts95 Tri-ace was bought by a different company. I think Star Ocean is done.
I suspect a switch Kingdom hearts title is in development, but that would likely be revealed by Nintendo.
People hoping for FF7-part 2 are gambling too. With intergrade and yuffie coming out, it's clear part 2 is not ready to be shown yet. I'd also see that on a Sony conference.
@Nem Holy $#!+ don't even get my hopes up like that! I would actually explode and die like 😮😮😯😵💥💀 Honestly though I think they would probably try and complete the Jensen trilogy before remaking the original. That being said though, I would love nothing more than a great remake of the first game. It's still an incredible game, and holds up overall in my opinion, but a fresh coat of paint, tighter controls, better voice acting... Oh man... 🤤🤤🤤😳 I mean 😎 Yeah that'd be pretty cool or whatever
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Forspoken. The little that's been shown so far has me pretty excited. That last video showing the lightning fast traversal was very good looking to me. In the past, E3 has always been a great hype event, and I kinda feel like right now we could use a little hype. Usually, buried at it's core, is at least a small kernel of good information.
@Nem I actually wasn’t referring to a brand new Star Ocean game. I remember hearing that Tri-Ace was bought by a different company years ago, but some time after hearing that I believe they came out with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (which was developed by Tri-Ace and published by Square Enix). I also know that Square Enix released a few ports of older Star Ocean games after that. They released Star Ocean: Till the End of Time as a slightly updated PS2 port on PS4. Square Enix also released Star Ocean: The Last Hope on both PS4 and Steam later on. They also had their mobile game going for a couple years, Star Ocean: Anamnesis, which (correct me if I’m wrong) was developed by Tri Ace and published by Square Enix on mobile platforms. While that mobile title is no longer available in the west, the most recent release in the series was on Square Enix’s part. At the end of 2019, they released Star Ocean: First Departure R on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. We haven’t heard any new announcements since, but the Star Ocean Facebook and Twitter accounts are still up and running here is the US. So while I did hear about Tri Ace being bought up years ago, I’m a little confused why they developed Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, and Star Ocean: Anamnesis after that news came out. Was there more recent news of Tri Ace being bought up that I just didn’t hear about? Do you have any links to articles that officially confirmed this news? I heard that same news quite a few years ago, but I’m pretty sure Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and Star Ocean: Anamnesis were developed by Tri Ace despite that news. Plus, Square Enix released about three different Star Ocean ports in the last few years as well. I’m not meaning to argue or anything. I’m just a little confused considering Tri Ace has released a couple new Star Ocean projects in the last few years, and Square Enix (who I believe actually owns the Star Ocean IP; correct me if I’m wrong on that) has released three additional different Star Ocean ports in the last few years as well. I do think it’s possible that Star Ocean might be done. After all, we haven’t heard anything since the release of Star Ocean: First Departure R on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. However, I also think it’s still entirely possible that Square Enix could release a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution in the same vein as Star Ocean First Departure R from 2019. I think either of those situations are equally possible still.
*Edit:
I just did a little more research on the subject. Most of what I was able to find were just in forums, but Tri Ace is indeed no longer owned by Square Enix. That being said, it is true that they have still collaborated with Square Enix on a few occasions after Tri Ace was bought by a mobile company (such as with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, the port of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and the mobile game, Star Ocean: Anamnesis.) The port of First Departure that I mentioned was more on Square Enix’s part. So, I still feel like a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution is entirely possible, just not guaranteed. I am aware that Japan already has Second Evolution on PS4, but that’s a straight up port of the PSP version (with no new additions except for trophies.) So, basically I think a brand new Star Oceam game is extremely unlikely. I do, however, think that a new port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution is still possible if Square Enix is willing to do it. I do feel like Square Enix has been doing a lot of ports of older, just as obscure games as Star Ocean lately (such as the SaGa games), so I don’t think a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution with new artwork and trophies is out of the question either. It’s certainly not guaranteed, but it’s really just a matter of waiting and seeing at this point, I feel like. I’m still hopeful that they’ll do it, though. I feel like a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution would make around the same amount of profit for Square Enix as SaGa Frontier Remastered (which Square Enix released recently.) But it’s just a complicated situation, so I feel like we might get a port of Second Evolution in the west, but we also might not, as sad as that is for me.
