God of War Ragnarok is supposed to launch at some point in 2022, but we're probably not getting an official release date announcement until fellow exclusive Horizon Forbidden West has hit store shelves in February. And even then, we're expecting Sony to give it at least another few months. Assuming that it doesn't get delayed, educated guesswork would put Ragnarok in the latter half of next year, and so this potential "leak" is already raising eyebrows.
As reported by PlayStation Game Size, PlayStation's own database has God of War Ragnarok down for a 30th September 2022 release date. Sounds perfectly plausible, but it must be stressed that this could quite easily be a placeholder. Still, the 30th September happens to be a Friday, so it does line up with typical AAA launch habits.
What do you make of this? Would you be happy with God of War Ragnarok releasing at the end of September next year? Recall the Leviathan axe in the comments section below.

Okay, I have already informed everyone I know that September is OFF LIMITS!!!!
Won’t happen. I start believing release dates after 2 delays minimum
i think this does actually hint at a Q3 2022 release date.
so it won't be a summer game.
it's most likely going to be playstation's big holiday game.
so Q4 2022.
Release it when its finished thats my opinion.
Was always expecting this to be a Holiday Season 2022 title at the earliest.
Seems like a good guess to me. It basically seems like just a really big expansion on what came before so I can't expect it would get delayed much further. Looking forward to it!
@colonelkilgore If it's the 30th, it would be a waste, claim October instead!
@Octane if anything, that would just be a bonus… a September & October of not being bothered. Here’s to hoping 😎
Sounds plausible to me but you never know.
It would give them a big game coming into the important 4th quarter for selling consoles.
Especially when Xbox will be hitting its stride and consoles should be more available off the shop shelf.
The end of this year didn’t matter to much.
But even I was surprised the amount of series x they shipped to the UK for the main Christmas week and that they seem to have all sold out now.
So some stiff competition for Sony this generation, especially as they really rely on console sales.
Kratos the g.o.a.t 🐐. 👑.cant wait for another masterpieces to the greatest games ever made.the adventure of kratos and atreus.word up son
Bring on that graphical beauty to the ps5!!
2022 will be huge for ps5 but i can't see the console readily available for the next year and it's a shame cause they can't produce ps4's either.
Internal targets very rarely turn out to be the actual release date.
That’s the last day of Q3 which heavily implies its a placeholder for a hopeful Q3 Launch.
@zebric21
They are available right now for despatch on the 7th of January at Game UK, one thing you can’t buy the console solo, they force you into a bundle purchase only, which is really sad that shops stoop to that low level, or scalper shops as I call them.
@Dezzy70 I have a ps5 since august..Me too was forced to buy a bundle with an extra controller, a charging station and a game of my choice..no big deal, i would buy them anyway..(don't sleep on the charging station,the thing is super easy to use and very practical)
@zebric21
Yes I have the official charging station it’s great and very useful.
Gives me a good 9 months to plat the entire GOW series before it comes out then. Good.
That seems very probable to me.
@Rural-Bandit
Think we have been spoilt in the UK week leading up to Christmas with very good stock of both PS5 and Series X, you can still just about get both now today but bundled or some weird deals from normal shops online for delivery now or early next year.
Not sure what happened in the USA but you seem to behaving more stock issues than UK, then again you have a massive population compared to us.
Not gonna happen.
March-April 2023 will be it's final launch date.
No God Of War game was launched outside of those 2 months, ever since the first game rose up in 2005 and up until the 2018 version.
They're not gonna break with tradition for the last one (and i do think this is gonna be the last one... starring Kratos as main "hero" at least).
September sounds realistic, with the exception of hardware launches it's rare Sony releases games in October - December so have GoW Ragnarok in September followed by PSVR 2 in October/November.
@Rural-Bandit
I do well over here managed 5 PS5 and 3 Series x
For family and friends.
I have it off to a fine art what stores what time and how they work online and in store stock.
Next year looking good for PS5 games
Ok for Switch depending on BOTW2
Xbox, not to sure at the minute.
I like the big AAA adventure type games
And very good platform games.
And a little fps.
@colonelkilgore You should have said October. If it comes out September 30th you get one day before your friends start bothering, you. I know my friends would message me continuously (in jest of course) if I said September and the next day was October.
From the trailer they released the game looked more or less finished or at the very least very very heavily polished. So no. A September 2022 release does not sound at all ridiculous
Even if it’s ready, they’ll release it later in the year to spread out Sonys releases.
Damn. I wouldn't believe if it was supposed to come out in 2021, it would have been delayed that late. I didn't want a March release because I will be busy playing february and march games still lol. April sounded good.
Cory said the sequel was going to take less time to make. That is true, but damn. We're still in 4 years development for huge games. If you make a dlc, you're bound to 5 years like horizon. Guessing ghost 2 comes out in 2025. The first one took 7 years.
Unless the big 5 are making two games at the time, "goty" level games take a lot.
What about the PC port?
Jesus man, September 2022 is a long time, what the hell happened to this game development, its really not that much of an improvement over the first, it looks like a big DLC, usually sequels like this would take them 3 years to make, not over 5 years....
what a massive delay, and it was originally scheduled for 2021 lol
I thought it would release during april may 2022, but damn, something is troubling behind the scenes of this game am sure
@Z390
It was delayed because the guy plaing Kratos needed surgery
@Z390 GoW came out in early 2018 so Ragnarok probably started full production later that year. I don't know why you expect such a quick turnaround in light of the pandemic and Christopher Judge's health problems.
@bismarck Lol you really think Sony would talk about a PC port (if one is even in the works to begin with) before it came out on PS4/5.
Daresay its a place holder,though you can imagine whenever it is ready it'll be pushed as a system seller for ps5. Still I'll take this over the "gaming journalists" on a hilarious link a buddy sent me for a clueless YouTube channel called G4TV!!
PS5 having had "no games & being dead in the water",since its launch compared to all those on gamepass....to which the pc master race host could only name Forza as her favourite!😂
Or Ragnarok apparently coming in February,or comparing Horizon Forbidden West to Shadow of the Collossus in gameplay similarity! Or the Hogwarts game being an Xbox exclusive apparently!😂
@Flaming_Kaiser Announce it when it is finished is my opinion
@Rural-Bandit
I was big into my switch the first two years with BOTW, Mario Odyssey, mario kart, Yoshi and Luigi Mansion, but the big AAA in house games have declined since.
Series x is good for third party and FH5.
Been playing Halo since day one original Xbox.
The new Halo good fps but could have been so much more environmentally etc, a little let down for me there personally after 6 years.
Hopefully the best franchise Gears will bring it.
PS5 exclusives just amaze my adventure side, Kena I like a lot, of course HFW can’t wait.
If I could only have just one console right now and going into 2022 easy choice PS5 for me.
@Dezzy70 there's also ps5 solo just scroll through pages on game Website
@Robocod obviously there talking pish because playstation has advertising deal with Hogwarts legacy 😆
@Falkirk4life
Yes but when adding to basket it is saying out of stock and just tried it right now.
If you add console with bundle deal it goes through ok.
Nice, if it does it'll be a nice present for my September birthday .
I could see a September release happening, but won't believe this until there's an official announcement of course.
