PlayStation 5 owners might want to consider buying that extra internal SSD or deleting some currently installed games because Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is tipped for a hefty file size. According to the PlayStation Game Size Twitter account, which scrubs the PSN backend for details on upcoming titles, we could be looking at 71.505GB of chaos. This is before the day one patch is applied, so the file size could increase or decrease between now and launch in March.
This is just the latest game the Twitter account has scrubbed for file sizes through the PSN database, with another recent one being Horizon Forbidden West. It's claimed the Zero Dawn follow-up could be in the regions of a whopping 96GB. Again, though, this is prior to a day one patch. And just like the Stranger of Paradise footprint, we're sure the two games will be updated through the backend even before a launch patch is ready.
Of course, the game is also coming to PS4, but with the last-gen system boasting more ways of boosting your storage capabilities, it won't be quite as big an issue there. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is out for both consoles on 18th March 2022, but pre-ordering the title grants you three days of early access.

"with the last-gen system boasting more ways of boosting your storage capabilities"
I may be wrong but I think the issue is not the number of ways to extend your storage, but more the price of said storage (specifically the internal SSD's).
PS4 :
PS5 :
@Olmaz You can only run PS5 games off an internal SSD, remember. Anything done externally can only be stored there, not played.
I don't recall Nioh Remastered taking up nearly as much as this, and from what I played of the demo for Strangers, Nioh is a much better looking game.
Storage is no issue. We are here to kill chaos not worry about memory.
@AndyKazama My guess would be that this one has more cut scenes, dialogue, nu metal songs, that kinda stuff.
Wow, that's a big boy!
@LiamCroft True, I'll give you that.
I don't have an internal SSD yet (still too pricey, I won't pay 3/4th of the price of my new gen console just for 2TB) and transferring games back and forth can be a pain.
Honestly naming conventions - could someone summarize what this game is? Is it a new FF game or a remake?
@Mega-Gazz It's a spin-off that is somewhat connected (story-wise) to the first Final Fantasy game. It's more like a souls-like action RPG though, developed by the studio that made Nioh.
Optimisation can be incredibly difficult. I'm not seeing the same level of resources been pulled into this game as say FF16. So I'm guessing this game will have less optimisation as a compromise to not take too much of their development resources.
@AndyKazama I think we're in for a surprise with how the game looms overall. They've been extremely quiet nor for a while probably doing some major polishing. Remember the difference between first demo and second? They could easily get it looking beautiful between then and release
@Mega-Gazz it's a re-imagining as such of Final Fantasy I
Time to get that 8TB WD external drive I've had on my amazon list for the last few days 🤔 I'd rather spend 200.00 on one of them than the same price for a 1TB SSD.
I'm not in any rush to get this game either. I'll get it over the summer or something.
so now 71GB games are the hot topic? the world has forgotten about that 100+gig Call-of-b00ty mess rather quickly...
@Mega-Gazz You play as the villain of the first Final Fantasy, Garland - who incidentally shares his name and vague appearance with the villain from FFIX. In the end of FF, Garland fuses with some fiends and becomes a demon called Chaos, so that's why this game is obsessed with that word. So this is basically, dare I say it, the Star Wars prequel trilogy of FF.
Don't know why but I'm really looking forward to this game.
@Corc11 @Matroska @Voltan thanks
@Corc11 Was the 2nd demo much better looking? I missed the window to play unfortunately. The 1st one didn't look great but was pretty fun.
I bought a 1TB SSD, the XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE for $149.99 CAD and it's more then fast enough for internal PS5, and should be cheaper in US, not a terrible price for such a fast drive and PS5 upgrade, much better then the 289.99 much weaker 1TB XSX Expansion Card
I always delete games that i beat so i never had this issue
@tameshiyaku
The multiplayer looks really fun.
I’ll catch it on sale. Not gonna shell out full price.
@Matroska
Kuja or that surprise final boss they throw at you at the last second?
@tofuman86
I’ll give the fools at the COD office some credit. Vanguard is dramatically smaller than Black Ops Cold War or MW 2019. It was about 90 gigs total.
Bad thing is how they achieved it. They use texture streaming over the web. Which means for multiplayer you better turn the high resolution textures off or you are going to have a real bad time.
@Olmaz
Yeah I use the transfer method with a 1 TB harddrive I repurposed (used to be my MacBook time capsule drive). Limited to 350 gigs per month bandwidth so I’m very picky with what I download.
I’m hoping to pickup a 1 TB SSD expansion sometime in the near future.
@Corc11 I see where you're coming from, especially if the cut scenes are pre rendered, although, I'd hope they be in engine if there's character customisation, which would save space (although I can't remember if the demo had that.)
@Voltan possibly, I need one more demo. I remember 2nd demo still looking grainy. I am hoping this is a sleeper hit because I really like the idea of this being a "remake" of the first FF
@Voltan it was better. Nothing perfect by any stretch, but it was better and you could tell that they had listened to the feedback. Amazing what even a little bit of colour can do to make a game more attractive!
@TheRedComet You didn't fight him but he's the guy that sent Zidane and Kuja to the planet (Terra?) in the first place.

@Matroska
Oh yeah I remember that now.
God that was a big exposition dump. He created Zidane and Kuja’s entire race as weapons. Like more sophisticated Black Mages.
I love FF1 Garland. “I Garland, will knock you all down!”
Glad they always kept that line in the remakes and rereleases. Nintendo’s censorship policies were stupid back then, but they did create some unintentionally hilarious lines at time.
I think in Japanese the line was “i Garland, will kill you all.” At least that’s what the line should have said based on the context.
I wonder what stalker 2 is gonna be on ps5(180+/-GB on xb).
@Olmaz playable storage for ps5 games on the current ps5 really is a weak part of the design,with so expensive extra internal ssds.
At least you can just plug the same external hdd on your ps4 to your ps5 and play those i think directly?
I have a 4tb hdd on my ps4,always full.
Wish i had 8tb,and put movies,shows too maybe.
I guess it's time for me to finally swap out my PS5's default 1TB SSD with the 2TB SSD I bought from Amazon.
FF7RE is about 100gb. Seems that may become the norm.
I'm lost do people not just delete a game when they finish/platinum it ? Why you keeping it there ? If you ain't gonna play remove it. Same idea as an empty box in your hallway at home...not gonna use it, it's just in the way taking up space....remove it
@Uromastryx same here i usually have a couple of games that i play every now and then, but my main game once im done i take it off. Wont bother with the 1tb ssd i would rather use the money for games.
I downloaded the demo and it was a janky mess, I’m not sure what people are seeing in this?
"Day 1 Patch". This publication of glitchy games is really quite garbage. Alan Wake Remastered had one, so it went from 44.GB to 80+GB, that's why I like the GOTY editions, on disc, with the"fixes" already compressed into the original data.
PSX 2 The 3 Is The Ones For Me. Fun, Fun, Fun.
