CD Projekt Red is set to release a new game from The Witcher franchise this year — and it's going to be another single-player Gwent title. The project — currently codenamed Golden Nekker — will be the developer's second attempt at creating an RPG based on the Gwent card game — a minigame that originated in The Witcher 3.
2018's Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales was the previous attempt — and it was a damn good spinoff if you could wrap your head around the Gwent-based gameplay. That one released on PlayStation 4, but there's been no word on platforms for Golden Nekker. Seeing as the free-to-play Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was pulled from PS4 in 2019, it's possible that this new project could skip Sony's systems — but hopefully that's not the case.
Would you be up for another Gwent-based RPG? Draw a good hand in the comments section below.

If its focused more as an RPG similar to Thronebreaker I'm down. I really enjoyed thronebreaker as an RPG even though I didn't enjoy the changes they made to Gwent from the original game.
I spent many many hours in Gwent, and even when I replayed Witcher 3 on Switch this year, I got sidetracked by Gwent. I hope whatever this is makes it to Switch, as that would be a prime place over my PS5 for it. I would really love the PS5 native version of Witcher 3 even more though as an excuse to go back to the DLC I never finished.
@Jayslow is Thronebreaker still worth checking out in 2022?
Personally, I never get into card/board games, least of all those created as a past-time for 'other' games like Gwent or Valhalla's Orlog.
Therefore, I am really unlikely to buy a 'game' based off an 'in-game' time filler....
I never got into Gwent. Hoping they start focusing on the next actual Witcher game soon.
Liking the codename. I hated those Nekkers in the game. Pesky blighters.
@weR1youR2Podcast definitely! As its a card game mixed with a visual novel its not like it was that graphically impressive when it came out. I believe it's regularly on sale for $10. Definitely worth checking out.
If it ain't Triple Triad I ain't playing cards.
Gwent was the best part of TW3. Spent hours.
I only played what was required for the main game. I accidentally clicked into a match and got out and it said I lost and that was that. I do think there's A game in there I could have enjoyed but the tutorial match was horrible and the rest of the game was so much fun why would I waste my time on a poorly explained card game?
Gwent was decent in The Witcher 3 but it’s no Orlog!
That's pretty cool, I don't see the problem.
Man I never play the side stuff like these in big RPG's, but loved Gwent and always play a round when I'm playing through the game.
@weR1youR2Podcast
The 2 expansions have become my favourite part actually. Especially Blood and Wine. Absolutely love the setting and the story and that bizarre optional part that is actually missable (so make sure you experience it).
Yay! Thronebreaker was absolutely brilliant!
@BoldAndBrash I've really enjoyed my time with what I did play of them (I spent about 10 hours in the first expansion, but never got to finishing it or the second one). I was going to go back last year to finish them but the next gen version announcement was begging me to put them off until they released.
I loved the beta for gwent. Then the game came out and it was mostly changed. I couldn't get into it. Hopefully this is closer to the beta
How about a round of Gwent?
Personally loved Gwent, stand alone, Thronebreaker and in the game.
So yeah, I'd be up for some more.
I platted both gwents on ps4, so I like this news
I'd play if it had a story and was third person....with less emphasis on using cards to fight.
If Gwent wasn't in the article's title it would have been much more interesting.
I tried to like Gwent in Witcher 3, but it just wasn't appealing, I would much rather play the actual game than a round of cards.
Here's hoping CDPR returns to the franchise with a new entry in the near future.
