There’s a strong chance you’ve barely scratched the surface of Horizon Forbidden West, but even if you’ve barely made it out of The Daunt, you may be interested to learn that DLC expansions could be on the way. A video published by VSC Rating Board, the “statutory body which rates video games in the UK”, mentions the inclusion of an online storefront in the game used to purchase DLC expansions.
We double-checked the game’s PEGI rating and “in-game purchases” are referenced. The full description explains: “This game offers players the opportunity to connect to their storefront, where they can purchase subsequent DLC expansions, which some parents or carers may want to be aware of. Parents, carers, or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.”
Of course, if you’ve played the game, you’ll already know there’s no in-game storefront available from the main menu. That’s presumably because Horizon Forbidden West doesn’t actually have any DLC available yet. Therefore, it’s probably safe to assume that this will be added at a later date.
It’s not overly surprising, we suppose: predecessor Horizon Zero Dawn got a major expansion in the form of Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, so we suspect something similar will be planned here. Is there anything in particular you’d like to experience in a potential Horizon Forbidden West expansion? Take a look at our Horizon Forbidden West guide, and set sail for western isles in the comments section below.

Wouldn’t be that hard to bolt on some DLC. Send Aloy off for another story MacGuffin in a new area with a couple more collectibles from each set, a new machine or two and absolutely zero plot of substance.
I can see a MP expansion similar to Ghost of Tsushima happening.
Appreciate the heads up. I'll wait for the complete edition like the first had.
I'm not too big on DLCs unless they're more of an expansion like Monster Hunter Iceborne.
I guess I’ll wait some more and hope for a bundle or game of the year edition at some point.
@AdamNovice I'd love this to be added
NOOOOOOO I was hoping my wife would have it beaten and done soon so we don’t have to fight over the PS5 anymore! We’ve been trading between her with Horizon FW and me with Elden Ring. They’re two absolute banger games and … and …. sharing is hard haha
Well the first game got the Frozen Wilds which was excellent to me so I would be perfectly ok with this game getting something like that as well.
Not surprising at all, since the first game also had a story DLC expansion!
I’m still really excited to play this. At the rate Elden Ring is going, the expansion might be out when I do!
More Horizon the better.
Finished Forbidden West yesterday and I'll gladly take more if they're offering.
Gotta get that money. We will never go back to a world without DLC...
Yes please. That is all.
@Fragile
They're a company. That's the point. Never think any company's main objective isn't to make money. If Horizon didn't make Sony money, they would drop it in a heartbeat
@nessisonett Pretty much. If it’s going to be something like previous game’s DLC we won’t be seeing this expansion for another year or so. Not holding my breath for this one. The Frozen Wilds was ok, but nothing sort of spectacular, at least story-wise.
For me that’s fine, Forbidden West was great and that’s enough. DLCs usually don’t do it for me anyway.
Was expecting and hoping for at least one expansion.
Would love to see it getting supported with ongoing content like AC Valhalla.
Or an online mode similar to Red Dead Online.
Or both 🤷♂️
Maybe a Co-op game like many people were hoping the sequel would be?
Firstly, it definitely needs to include another large boss machine. Zero Dawn had the Thunderjaws, Frozen Wilds introduced the big bears, Forbidden West brought the elephant and giant snake... maybe we could get a massive Elk?
Secondly, a complaint I have about both games is how when machines get up in your face, even if you roll away, some can seem to forever close the distance and stop you from aiming any counter-attacks at all. To solve that it would be cool to include a way to block machine melee lunges that would either stun them shortly, or let you jump over and behind them, maybe propel yourself further back quickly? Just a way to let you create distance in a quick, fun way is certainly needed.
The game also doesn't include the Tearblaster from the original, which is a huge question mark for me, bring it back!
I have to say I think it’s big enough as it is, maybe too big, if I’m honest.
I’m about half way through the main story I think (been doing a buttload of side quests). Actually I may be 2/3rds through. I’m really not sure. I wouldn’t mind some DLC a year from now.
Since it’s set on the Pacific coast, I wouldn’t mind seeing Aloy visit the remains of Los Angeles. Or maybe they could add a place like Montana and let Aloy explore an ICBM field.
As for story? I mean I think it’s time to let home girl have some romance in her life. Maybe a romantic subplot throughout the DLC. If they went with an ICBM field setting, they could include some nut case antagonist with a death cult that wants to kill off humanity in North America by launching the somehow still working missiles and Aloy and her “romantic” interest have to stop them.
@zhoont Not sure about the elk but I do agree about the distance thing and having a block of some kind. There’s some machines like the Fireclaws which are brutal and even with some distance they can be on you in a second and there’s virtually no defence against that. It does feel slightly unfair at times.
Nothing wrong with a dlc as long as it's done right. A lot of dlc nowadays is nothing more than an ordinary cash grab. 5 hours of extra story for 30€ or something like that is ridiculous. If you do it like mmos do or ac valhalla (whether you like the game or not there was a lot of extra content with the season pass and if you love it well worth it) then it's fine by me.
@render Glad I'm not alone! The issue is also that this problem applies to a lot of the machines that don't even have oppressive melee attacks simply because if you tear off their ranged attack components they will begin to chain melee lunges. Thudnerjaw with enough health can be stripped down into a forever charging menace that just stomps you to death.. I think the solution is already in the game to some extent with shocking of freezing elements but the game never really explains to you how that is a good strategy. In fact, I could ramble about how the weapon onboarding and effectiveness is really inconsistent.
46 hours played and only 31% complete. No rush.
Good. I want to live in this world as long as possible.
I haven’t finished the game yet but I feel like I’m entering the endgame and I’m not ready for it to be over.
I absolutely love GAIA though. Her voice is so soothing. If the dlc was just asking questions and listening to her talk about random stuff I would probably buy it 😁
@ApostateMage same here.
@Fragile most games that aren’t mp don’t need dlc but they get them so companies can make money and fans can get more of a game they love. Frozen wilds was really good so even though I’m still in the daunt at twenty hours I would be down for an expansion because the game is amazing
@RBMango how are people finishing these epic games in 5 and a half days? Do you guys not chew your food also????!!!
I'm still in the daunt so well off completion lol. But its an instabuy if anywhere near as good as frozen wilds
@Jayslow horizon wouldn’t be nowhere near as good if it was co op focused
@velio84 Horizon only just got it’s first sequel and Aloy as blown up there is zero chance they drop the series and it would be dumb of them to.
@dark_knightmare2 i think they should just stop while they are a head.. When they keep making spin offs, they just keep trying to up the magic and it starts to fall apart. A sequel is good, they should just not make another game at this point. Move on, the studio has proven its worth and talent, diversify that portfolio......
I hope so, my game of the year so far.
Not tried Elden Ring yet, but been watching some vids. Seems the same old hardness but open world with exploring, which I like exploring.
Tired the dark souls remake and the combat and hardness did not go down well with me.
@Uncharted2007 Yes, the physical Complete Edition with DLC and all the patches sounds good.
I'd take as many DLCs Guerrilla Games make. Frozen Wilds was an amazing DLC and it's one of my all time favorites (generally not a fan of DLCs and haven't played Iki Island yet).
Aside from that... I'll never say no to Horizon when Aloy is there.
@mrtennis1990 @ApostateMage Dunno why people rush to finish open worlds quickly, they obviously didn't bother with the side content. They should be playing linear games.
I guess Aloy won’t be dying in this game then…
@Jacko11 If I remember correctly, I believe it was planned/written as a trilogy. But I could be wrong.
@TheArt I'm just over 30 hours in and loving it, my plan is not to fast travel anywhere. Level 20 with about 20% game completion, so much to see and do and I'll happily take DLC and fingers crossed at least one more full game!
@MightyDemon82 As it should be. Open worlds are all about side content, there's no point if you're going to skip all that and play it linear. I never fast travel in games, it just feels unrealistic and cheap to me.
@Fragile
100% or just rushed through the main story?
@Rob_230 same here, I'm deliberately taking my time. Why rush through such a great game?
The only gamers that do this, are the ones desperate to move onto the next play through on YouTube.
@Uncharted2007
2 years time then
I just realised Frozen Wild and Forbidden West share the same acronym. It would be awesome if a hypothetical DLC and Horizon 3 also shared the same acronym.
@BritneyfR_ee Agreed!
More is better in this case!
Peace.
And this is why I refuse to buy day one, let this one play out and buy this game later
I assumed this was a given. Complete Edition for me.
Like some above I will get the complete edition with all content, everything patched at a reduced price. For multiplayer games you obviously want to be there day one but for single player content it pays being a patient gamer.
Considering how long it takes to make games nowadays an Iki Islsnd, Frozen Wilds makes a lot of sense to keep the franchise rolling. As long as they keep it there in terms of size and quality. They can also try out some new ideas and push the engine in advance of a sequel.
@TheArt
I was burning through side quests to level up a bit. I’m at a point now where I’m going to burn through the rest of the story.
After that, I’m going back to play all the side content I’ve skipped and maxing out Aloy. That’s how I generally play open world titles. Do some early game side quests to level up, go through the story, then go back and do everything else and explore 100% of the map.
Plus this seems like a fairly easy platinum. I’ve only got the plat for one game (Astro’s Playroom, shoot me) and I’m going to get the plat for Ghost of Tsushima once I’m done with Horizon (I’ve only got 6 trophies to go on Tsushima, but they are all the most annoying ones in the game). But the plat for Horizon seems pretty straight forward without any of the bull crap Zero Dawn made you do.
@TheRedComet You got only one plat lol it's fine. I got like 12 or something with Bloodborne being one of my proudest plats. I think even HZD's plat is easy, I'm like 90% and I'm not in a hurry to plat both. Well my style with open worlds is to do a lot of side content and get all abilities, perks, weapons etc so I'm really levelled up for the main quest.
I've put 97 hours Into the game I have finished everything there is to do and I still just run around and max all my weapons and armors out, I would really like an expansion that gives more detail on the Quen for sure and maybe the other tribes around them.
