Cyberpunk 2077 may have had a shockingly bad launch back in 2020, but it's easy to forget that the game still sold incredibly well — and the recent PS5 release has reportedly had a significant impact on those numbers. In its latest financial call, CD Projekt Red said that the current-gen console version of Cyberpunk accounted for the majority of the company's revenue in Q1 2022 — which isn't really a surprise.
But it sounds like the PS5 version in particular did well for itself. When Cyberpunk 2077 released on Sony's newest box, it made up the majority of the game's sales in that period — a several week span which saw total sales more than double over the previous period. It was confirmed that Cyberpunk had passed 18 million sales back in April.
Given how far Cyberpunk 2077 has come since its initial release, it's easy to understand why the game has picked up a lot of new players — especially on console. We imagine that many potential buyers were waiting for the PS5 version after hearing about the heavily criticised PS4 edition.

Well now that they are done here with the bugs(Mostly since audio issues are still present) I hope the sequel after all the DLCs are done has fully realized ideas compared to this cut content mess of a game.
@Nepp67 If anything the failure of Cyberpunk(I know that it sold well) guarantees that open world games will continue using the same formula that Ubisoft created in 2012. It's too scary and hard to attempt something bigger unless you are Rockstar.
I don't know if it was the same on the other console but on PS you could download the trial and play for 2 hours first and they also had a 50% discount running for a period after the release. That will definitely have helped as I wouldn't have bought it without being able to try it first.
I guess if you go from a negative amount in the previous year anything of profit is going to be better right?
I bought a PS4 copy from Best Buy for $5 after y'all reassessed the PS5 version. Sure a lot of people saw updated takes and also decided to take the plunge.
@Bismarck Cause devs think their fans are too stupid but Elden Ring has proven that wrong or I guess sort of since there were people that were dumb to not know that the Cave of Knowledge was a tutorial section.
Bought the PS5 version in Feb, played it, liked it, dropped it for HFW, came back to it and loving it.
Really good game.
I bought it, haven't played it yet. But the price was right £19.99 for a digital copy of the game seemed a good deal.
Bought it at launch for XSX, loved it. Bought it for PS5, loved it. One of the best games I've played.
Currently have it on the go and its really good on PS5, loving the side quests.
I mean I had the PS4 version pre-ordered as soon as they went live because I stupidly assumed that a game that started development since before the release of another big game (The Witcher 3) that the devs would have known the limitations of the systems they were working on!
Luckily I managed to get a refund so I was one who picked up the PS5 version as it launched half off.
Plays and looks brilliant on the PS5. The changes to the skills like knife throwing and the monowire now make them great fun to use.
Does this not include refunds?
What @Col_McCafferty said but gave it a break for Returnal. Went back, finished, soon starting Horizon. Great game.
@WadeIsInsane sure enough. €25; for the finished product and for the actual console I’m playing on was a total game changer
People go on about the first bad impression and damn it to hell from there on. Don't get these unforgiving jerks and how they function in a world full of imperfections.
At first I was disappointed I couldn't play it at launch, set it aside (not like there was nothing to play in the meantime), waited and picked it up once the current gen update was here. Had a fantastic time (the game isn't shallow as some comment section haters make it out to be) and am looking forwards to the free expansions. The studio made it right again and everyone who still rants about it can go and toss a rock on their own head for all I care.
It’s just so fun to play now that’s why. I get some serious early fallout vibes from this game personally which I absolutely love as a fan of that series and this sort of game. The characters and their development are really quite great. I’ll be down for any expansions and any follow up games in the same world for sure cos I was a massive critic but they turned me into a true fan. Well done, even if it took you a while. Don’t do that again tho haha
@jrt87 Why? The PC version had some janky bugs, but I don't remember any of them being game-breaking. I beat the GoG version of Cyberpunk 2077 after 200+ enjoyable hours long before the 1.10 patch came out. The only real drama was about its performance on the base PS4 and Xbox One.
@tameshiyaku I love to reply why people are so unforgiving. They did so many shady things. Pushing back reviews to make people believe they bought a functional game is one of them.
People who bought the game for the PS4 never really got the product that was even close to what was advertised. Man they even got sued for what they did.
Man and calling people jerks when they where clearly mislead and lied to yeah the customer is the jerk in this picture. I never had a big issue i heard about the problems and cancelled my preorder. Now im waiting for a complete/gold edition.
@Flaming_Kaiser Not saying it was okay how they handled things at launch, but people make mistakes, especially under pressure. I guess following the success of Witcher 3 with this crazy ambitious project was just too much to shoulder and the general consumer attitude towards delays with social media shot storms.
The same what the online mob did to Sean Murray and Hello Games going on about how "he lied". He got ahead of himself for sure, but they delivered plentifold.
It's simply cancel culture and a toxic gaming community.
Is there an actual ps5 version available to buy? Or is it just a case of buying the ps4 version and updating? Was really looking forward to this one, but was completely put off by it's disastrous launch! Willing to give it a go now that the issues seem to have largely been sorted
I'm glad I wanted to wait until the ps5 version. Just recently finished it and thoroughly enjoyed it and it was only 20 quid so that was a bonus.
I played 100 hours of this game before giving up last year. Honestly I want to get back into it but every time I think about booting it up I just remember how shallow it felt, and I know it will never be the RPG that was showcased in 2018. It's cool people like it now..but it's clear they won't spend 4 more years to pull off a No Man's Sky. And like Anthem, this was just another disappointment with huge wasted potential
@WadeIsInsane - Cheers mate! Yeah, I think I'll go with the physical PS4 copy - looks to be cheaper on Amazon at the moment. Always prefer to get the actual discs anyway!
