As rumoured earlier in the week, PSP classic Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is making a comeback. The remaster, due out “this winter” will release on the PS5 and PS4, and will feature “updated 3D models, full voiceovers, and new music arrangements”. A trailer showcased a ton of gameplay, which retains the original's divisive slot machine mechanics, which are utilised to award Limit Breaks and level protagonist Zack Fair up.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII serves as a prequel to the main Final Fantasy VII storyline, and up until now has only been playable on the PSP, where it launched in 2007. You can check out the trailer for the new Reunion version above.

Great glow-up in terms of visuals, worrying lack of glow-up with the actual game. While some game structures worked great on the PSP (MonHun games especially), I’m not sure I’d have the patience to sit down and play this through again on the big screen.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I personally think this looks great. Always love to see old PSP games making a comeback!
Loved the original game! I hope they make some physical version or at least cross buy the digital version. Some bizarre license reasons prevented the OG game from a digital release back in the PSP/Vita days.
Square Enix output is second to none, how many games are they launching from 2022-23?😂 I'm personally holding off on playing any of the remakes until I play through the entire mainline series, still waiting for those pixel remasters square!
I didn't have a PSP so I've never played this one. Really excited for it!
Looks great but all the missus has done is complain about the new voice XD
I never played the original, since it was only on PSP. Looks pretty good and I'm definitely getting it!
Maybe I will finally understand some of the references to the game in FFVIIR.
Square Enix just needs to change its name to just Final Fantasy publisher after selling off most its IPs and are really only publishing an oversaturated amount of FF games at this point.
That’s great news! That was my favorite game is PSP. Like others have said. I do hope they tweak the the gameplay a bit to be more suited to a console. Either way I’m excited.
Okay, I knew it was coming but still, the hype is real! I didn't expect for this remake to look this good! It's like Type-0 HD again with its polishing.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to cry that much again tho.
Day one for me, been hoping for a re-release of this for years.
The slot machine thing was a bit odd at first, but you get used to it,and it is used to amazing effect at one point in the game.
At least it's not trapped on a dead handheld any more.
Wow Square pulled out all the stops at this event! Good stuff!
CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS!!!
On all platforms was a shocker but very smart move
Great news! The PSP version is one of the best FF spinoffs and is very overlooked (FF Tactics is the only spinoff that is better in my opinion). I have the original but will love to play this in a big screen. Day one.
I thought the rumors were false! I can't believe this is getting a full remake. I get to relive one of my favorite games!
Everything but Square being acquired by Sony happened today 😂
@PhantomMenace84 I just played through it for the first time a little over a year ago, and as a lifelong FF fan, I feel if anyone should be ridiculed, it's me!
My favorite Final Fantasy game, definitely a day one buy.
Wow.. they really knocked it out of the park with this showcase. Crisis core was amazing, the story I still sometimes watch in movie form on YouTube. Cannot wait for this
So, is this new version falling under the sequel - errr, I mean Remake - storyline or the original?!
Cool.I remember playing final fantasy crisis core on my psp.it was a amazing game.glad more people are going to play it on ps4 and ps5.definetly getting this game.word up son
I'm happy to play and cry to this game again.
This is what people asked for FF7 and didn't get.
I'm surprised they chose to remake this. It looks good, but if it still retains the mission structure, which if it's a straight remake it will, i am not interested. The game was way too boring.
@GamingFan4Lyf Far as I can tell this is remaster not remake so will be retaining the original storyline, i.e. it will be in one of the alternate timelines that Remake acknowledges.
I never played this since I never owned a PSP, so this will likely be a day 1 for me as long as it doesn't come out right after something else I'm already playing.
Can’t wait to play this and Ever Crisis remake at the same time. The next 2 years of final fantasy are going to be crazy!
@Ashina better than Type-0 even. That remaster was a little inconsistent.
Called it. Gackt is back
I was not expecting them to ever remaster this game! Also love that they're using FF7 Remake graphics engine for the cutscenes.
Winter 2022 can't get here soon enough, I hope it releases in December.
Im very interested in this title. I just finished the original FF7 for the first time and never played crisis core either. Absolutely loved the story of the original 7 so getting more of that, yes please
WOOOHOOO! So excited for this!
@Ken_Kaniff It seems Final Fantasy is the only thing Square Enix can actually do well. Anything else is either disappointing or a massive failure.
This oughta Tidus over till remake part 2 😉
Argh Zack. I am Angeal. Look at how pretty I am.
I love Crisis Core, but man I can’t stand Angeal.
Definitely my favourite my storyline form FF7 this game never left my hands on psp..slot machine attacks aside great game imo
As someone who recently finished FF7 Remake, does this happen before, during, or after the Remake plot line? I’m fairly new to the whole Final Fantasy Universe and was a bit confused.
@mrtennis1990 Before, it's a great prequel!!
A amazing game, I had a great time with it on PSP, did almost everything there!! I know Dirge of Cerberus is not as celebrated, but I hope they bring it too, it was one of the 1st games I "platined" on PS2, I have fond memories too.
@freddquadros really appreciate the response!
I bought myself a PSP earlier this year for the sole purpose of playing Crisis Core. I haven't actually got round to starting it yet. Now I'm torn. Do I play it now and then play the remake when it's out? Or do I sack off the PSP and just wait for the remake???
I never finish the original on my psp, so I'll be getting this one and finish it for sure
And the graphics are quite nice, not on the same level as the remake but it's pretty good, especially at high reolutions and 60 fps.
@Nepp67 Very true, they do seem like their a one trick pony.
@freddquadros i was thinking of that too , i wouldn't mind a remaster / remake of that as well , Vincent was one of my favorite characters in the series.
Activating Combat Mode.
