You wait years for earth-shaking RPG sequels, and then two come along at once! Well, maybe. Both Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 (officially in development) and Dragon's Dogma 2 (unofficially in development) could be revealed tonight at the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration and 10 Years of Dragon's Dogma events respectively, but there's just one problem: the events start at the same bloody time!
Both events begin on the 16th June at 3PM PT / 6PM ET / 11PM BST / 12AM CET (17th), which is going to make our coverage a lot trickier than it needs to be. Our own first world problems aside, we're really just writing this article as a quick reminder, because we can't remember the last time two gaming events clashed like this.
It goes without saying that the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration will draw the most viewers, but Capcom's Dragon's Dogma show could quite easily end up being the heavy hitter, depending on what's actually announced. We've been waiting on a proper sequel to Dragon's Dogma for a decade, after all!
Will you be choosing one event over the other? Or will you be watching both? Declare you allegiance in the comments section below.

What are the chances of FF7R2 coming out anytime soon? I am seriously getting terrified by how long long it takes for AAA games to be developed nowadays. Too many day 1 gamespass indies........................
Final Fantasy I choose you! Will watch both of course but Final Fantasy first. I don't think we will see much of Part 2 and that Crisis Core could be in the spotlight today. Maybe a small teaser at the end to announce the real show for September (perhaps for Sonys showcase)
FF7 part 2 and Dragons Dogma 2?
@Bismarck fr man games are taking so long to develop these days when most of them even launch with quite a few 'basic' features missing. In that way at least indies do a more thorough job.
Why would they do it at the same time specially when there's alot of people who play both
I'm likely going to check out (and sneak out from work) to watch FF7 25th Anniversary event for a potential FF7R pt.2 and Crisis Core remake/remaster. I've only played Dragon's Dogma for a few hours on the Switch so I don't have any strong attachments to the franchise. I'm still going to check out Capcom's event as a replay
@Cherip-the-Ripper Not always. Sifu, Kena and many more 'AA' games don't support the dualsense controller, 21:9 resolutions and other QoL features on PC. If you are only using consoles you can't notice just how lazy most studios are.
I really REALLY hope they both troll us hard and release a mobile or card game and don't give us the sequels reveal today lmao
I noticed this clash last night, my wife and I are gonna have both our phones out at the same time for one stream each ha ha
Two of my favourite games so I will have to choose between hideaki itsuno and tetsuya nomura. I will choose hideaki over disappointment then xD
@Bismarck pretty sure their limited budget plays a role.
I'm leaning towards watching Dogma, as the only thing that would pull me towards the FFVII stream is if a Crisis Core remake or remaster is somehow happening (but extremely doubtful).
@Gloamin playing DD now has faster load times at least.
I would love a remake if not a sequel. DD OVER final fantasy for me. It might be due to its more western fantasy setting. Feels like I'm playing a book I have read.
I bet Microsoft told them the only way they could do these events was if they did them at the same time!
Never even heard of dragon's dogma. Probably won't even open the inevitable push square article that's written about it.
Not too interested in Dragons Dogma so I would have expected Capcom to blink and move theirs but judging by the comments maybe not. Squenix isn't moving theirs, they're oblivious.
May watch FF if it's on Youtube, on my tv next to the stove while I'm cooking dinner, it's 6PM here.
Still weird having both at once, maybe we do need E3?
@naruball They have already created the dualsense functionality and there are millions guides and programs that force games to render in 21:9 resolutions. It's not like I am asking them to add Ray Tracing.
@Bismarck oh nah I game on pc as well, it's just a total clusterf*** between bad old ports and newer games (especially japanese) lacking regular features that make it hard to use as a baseline. Hell it'd be harder to make a case about devs actually putting in effort then. I find it irritating to have to look up in what capacity a game actually works on pc before I can buy it.
Capcom vs Square Enix today.
Dragon's Dogma > modern Final Fantasy.
@Cherip-the-Ripper you often have to look up pcgamingwiki or mods, but at the end of the day it's still the best platform.
I should probably play Dragon's Dogma at some point.
I really enjoyed Dragons Dogma but most especially Dark Arisen. Perhaps one of the better expansions I have played. I don't expect to see FF7R part 2 release soon but would be a nice surprise.
Bloody hell. Of all the games I'm unreasonably excited for.
FF on tv with DD on my phone I guess.
I get that people want Dragon's Dogma 2 but do you really think that game would sell that well? I mean their has to be a reason why Capcom hasn't made a sequel for that game for years. I mean it could be cool if the game actually looks good.
I'm more excited for FF7 Remake 2 and maybe Crisis Core Remake if that's a thing.
@AFCC or an NFT of Tifa's gloves
@Bismarck there's so much content in this part of the game im concerned we will have to wait 3 years for a part 3
@QBGaming12 dd does have a strong following people love it ,but people adore silent hill and nothing happening there either ,I really don't know why Sony don't buy the ip
If god only wanted me to watch one at a time, he wouldn't have given me two eyes.
@Milktastrophe you won't be missing much, it was pants when it released and it's still pants now.
@tallythwack even with a following that doesn't amount to enough sales to warrant a second game. If it gets announced it all depends on when it comes out and what it's competing with.
Sony might be in the process of buying the Silent Hill IP but it's all up Konami and the weird way that they manage their games.
I do hope that they make a second Dragon's Dogma, I never got into the first one enough(even though I played the original a bit and then got Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen on sale years ago). Just hoping it's worth the full $60 or $70 and looks good/plays good.
Probably going with the FF VII stream, though mainly hoping for news on Ever Crisis (that isn't delay / cancellation), Crisis Core would be a bonus; I played DDDA on PC but didn't get heavily into it: I have vague memories of watching the recent Dragon's Dogma animation but if I did then it wasn't very, well, memorable.
Dragon's who?
Cloud and co all the way. Although I probably won't watch either.
😉
I hope they announce ff7 for Xbox…but only part 2, and have it timed exclusive…and then not announce how long that exclusivity lasts for. It will be worth it just for the lols.
DD2! Make it happen, Capcom!
Dragon Dogma is my thing now FF7R has lost my attention a long time ago.
@Ralizah You really should its quite fun an probably really cheap by now.
@Bismarck Im a massive Final Fantasy 7 fan but the way the game is released is taking way to and it lost me a pity but u cant be helped.
@Flaming_Kaiser @Flaming_Kaiser £3.19 on the UK store and a bonkers 85p on the Turkish store.
@nicc83 I already have it in disc but i really appreciate the information though. 😁👍
On the square side of things I'm actually hoping for the final fantasy pixel perfect remasters for console. And if there isn't a new dragon's dogma announced that isn't a mobile title I propose a riot.
Final Fantasy for me, no interest in Dragon's Dogma. That said it's only 10 mins long, so unless it's 5 2 minute trailers that are all awesome with a surprise release date for something big, I think it's going to disappoint.
Edit: A 'World of Final Fantasy' sequel would be nice though.
Dragon's Dogma 2 potentially being a thing is a bigger deal to me than anything modern Final Fantasy could do.
I don't regret choosing the Final Fantasy VII stream at all. Helps that I've been a fan of FF7 and FF series in general ALOT longer.
