Sony had suggested earlier in the week that we would find references to PSVR2 in future PS5 firmware updates, and it’s already beginning. A beta for the new-gen console’s latest system software rolled out earlier today, with folder functionality and 1440p support. It’s supposed to be confidential, but that hasn’t stopped eager fans from sharing references to Sony’s new headset within the Settings menus.
In truth, there’s not a whole lot to get excited about here, although the references themselves do help the new hardware to feel that little bit closer. Under the Accessories tab, the beta refers to the new PSVR2 Sense Controllers in the Communication Method tab. Presumably there’s new code in the console itself which makes pairing the motion pads possible as well.
“PSVR2 game developers will begin to access the latest user experience for PSVR2 in a new system software release coming soon as part of the ongoing development,” senior staff product manager Yasuo Takahashi said. It’s possible that this new firmware update also includes many of the key UI features that Sony announced earlier in the week, like the see-through view, although obviously you’ll need access to the hardware itself in order to test them.
Exciting times, though!

Won’t buy one until they release a version with a jet-powered fan blasting my face, Kenny G to relax me and air fresheners in event of oesophageal discharge.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa pump the brakes here Sony and friends....
we don't even have any games with release dates announced for the VR headset that also doesn't have a release date right? Or does it I could be wrong but if they release this Hardware without at least some major launch titles it will just be another gimmicky flop where it only serves a very Niche crowd until years down the line when it's then obsolete in terms of technical specs.
@KundaliniRising333 I'm sure they're aware they need to release it alongside some games. Sony may be dumb sometimes, but they're not that dumb!
@nessisonett I second this, the discharge masking scent is a must!
@KundaliniRising333 Best selling VR Headset a failure. 🤪
@Flaming_Kaiser they released it years prior to the current mainstream competition, which ultimately resulted in it being dated by the time Vr gained a wider popularity.
I'm not saying it didn't sell more in the 6 years it has been out especially considering it had several years lead to sell more. I'm saying it wasn't groundbreaking and certainly not industry leading in games or apps avail or technical prowess.
I just wish Sony would see the value in their back-catalogue and announce remasters of all the Resistance and Killzone games for PSVR2. Trust me, those games would be perfect in a headset!
@KundaliniRising333 have a day off
I will be completely and happily unreasonable about this thing until I have one.
Sammy! Have you been fishing for studios to let you play with their new VR games?????
Tell us everything you've heard!!!!!
@theMEGAniggle never
@nessisonett Cant beat a bit of Kenny Gizzle..
@Perturbator i tried out killzone 3 in 3d and it was pretty cool , i could see vr being pretty fun.
Sounds like it'll be out before Xmas if it's already in a firmware due for general release in 6-8 weeks going by how they usually roll out.
Interesting.
only need a preorder and price and release date.
Yes they finally announced VR Kenny Gwaitwut?
@KundaliniRising333 😂
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN! LAST CALL! THIS TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION!
As little as I used the original headset, it was still pretty decent for the time. If this can be a slightly more powerful Occulos Quest, with support for some first party titles, I'll buy it at launch.
Heck, just a more reliable version of Beat Sabre and a port of Half Life Alyx would make it a day 1 purchase for me..
